GUBA launches free video upload service
By Peter Cohen

GUBA is expanding its offerings by starting a free video upload and sharing service. The service even handles automatic transcoding to different formats, including iPod and Sony PSP.

GUBA has distinguished itself by offering a subscription-based search, transcode and download service for video and digital image searches through the Usenet, one of the oldest parts of the Internet. Now the service is expanding into video uploads independent of the Usenet.

GUBA?s new Upload service lets content creators upload short films, video clips and home movies, all hosted on GUBA?s own servers. Those videos are then made available to GUBA subscribers and non-subscribers alike; they can view the videos at no cost. Initially, the service will be limited to 200MB uploads ? that threshold will be raised to 1GB in April, according to the company.

GUBA Upload embeds content with information you provide, including name, tags, categories and date. An individual URL is provided so you can share uploads with friends and family. GUBA restricts uploads to user-generated content; the service will not allow users to index feature-length films, for example.

GUBA users who want to download the content can subscribe via Really Simple Syndication (RSS), and the service handles on-the-fly transcoding to ready the content for playback through iTunes, on an iPod, Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP), or in instant playback on the Web browser using Flash video.

GUBA plans additional video upload features in the second calendar quarter of 2006 ? those features will include reporting tools and viewer tracking, comments, and ?monetization capabilities.?

And they plan to verify the copyright owner of the video...how?

Seems a bit redundant to me...
The videos being uploaded there are more than likely being put out to the newsgroups that they already provide their interface for..

Well they won't be the first or last to do that ... :(

fris 04-02-2006 12:27 PM

to verify everything they will need a person hand approving everything. gonna be kinda hard

Its basically just another way to create a loophole to view copyright protected videos.. watch and see . try uploading a BANGBROS video clip to google video or youtube , and it wont make it through because its obviously copyright , and it would get flagged , try it with guba....

You'll have to subscribe to their usenet service for that!

well although still edgy its not nearly as bad as guba for the simple fact people cant directly advertise particular stolen content.

Like you cant point links to usenetbinaries to specific "keywords". That makes it much less relevent. People want to go there and type in "BANGBUS" and "LIGHTSPEED" and "PARIS HILTON" , thats what sells the service.. Also guba encodes the content in various formats..

I'm not saying either is very "ethical" but still think guba is worse, although havent checked them out much to be honest :)

crockett 04-02-2006 12:48 PM

Sweet I can just promote the GubaPass and replace all my affiliate programs with one big check..

is there a way to automaticlly upload bullshit videos with wrong titles to fuck with them. Some one can upload 1000's of bad vids and they would never know unless they checked each one.

The key is to have all your videos watermarked and quality content. If people find a couple of them for free and like them, THEY WILL PAY for the complete site.

P2P, Newsgroup, and YouTube style sites are never gonna end, honestly its a reality that needs to be faced at this point. Bitching about it on GFY isnt gonna change it either.

So change your mindframe on how to exploit it for free promotion, not how you can stop it, because you never will.

So its okay because 'everybody's doing it'?

Get the U.S. Congress on the phone - we're scrapping all copyright laws now...since everybody's infringing nowadays.

RawAlex 04-02-2006 03:51 PM
