Spider Ninja 01-29-2006 11:12 PM

cops are pigs, of course, but also your brother in law, etc

bringer 01-29-2006 11:12 PM

cops buy lots of donuts. cops are good

eroswebmaster 01-29-2006 11:13 PM

there are good ones, there are bad ones.

For the most part they are a "necessary evil."

Sam Granger 01-29-2006 11:13 PM

good, otherwise if they didn't exist it would be fucking chaos :)

If the law is moral...

With firemen, there's never any question.

paramedics are cool too :thumbsup

SmokeyTheBear 01-29-2006 11:15 PM

good for what ? laughing at ? burning in a pile ? tossing off a bridge ?

In theory cops are good and, having a police force is a smart idea.. As a group i would say "most" cops are NOT good people , but of course there are MANY cops who are very good and great people..

Spider Ninja 01-29-2006 11:16 PM

cops are cool as long as they don't see you

SmokeyTheBear 01-29-2006 11:17 PM

First you have to establish what "good" is..

I like to use the old " would you save me " test

If you were trapped in a burning car/building , who would you rather be there.. An average guy 20-40 or an average cop..

fr0gman 01-29-2006 11:18 PM

My brother is a cop. My Dad was a cop (retired). My uncles are both cops. My business partner's brother is a cop and I can say with some authority that all cops are shit-heads. Does that make them "bad"... well you decide, but I would not piss on one if they were blazing.

S P A N N O W 01-29-2006 11:18 PM

When you factor the number of policemen and women in general with the number of crimes committed by them there's very little crime on the force. Cops are good and very necessary in peacekeeping. But the system only works where the population recognizes their role, as in most of the industrialized world. 3rd-world nation police are much less effective because the population doesn't recognize their necessity and therefore doesnt respect them.... IMHO

an average guy doesnt have to do anything where an average cop has to put in an effort (if there are witnesses)

I like to think the best of people (fool, I know) -- but one must wonder why people become cops in the first place. Remembe that scene in Serpico where he explains why he became a cop? It had to do with wanting to be "in" in what was going on at a crime scene. And Frank was attacked by all the corrupt cops! Makes you wonder why they joined.

When cops help me, they're good.

When cops hurt me, they're bad.

they BETTER respect them in 3rd world countries.... cause the cop won't even think twice about shooting them in the head...

unless they are a tourist... then they can't fuck with you

pocketkangaroo 01-29-2006 11:30 PM

The problem with cops is that they have no oversight, no checks and balances. Of course most departments have internal affairs, but for the most part, it's a joke. When given absolute power, many will abuse it.

Sosa 01-29-2006 11:31 PM

some are some aren't. Just depends on the person. Some think they are the shit for having a fucking badge.

Peter_ANYwebcam 01-29-2006 11:40 PM

You get your good ones and your bad ones.

Elli 01-29-2006 11:41 PM

Cops serve a very neccessary function in society. Unfortunately that kind of power tends to attract the kinds of personalities who would abuse it.

Loryn 01-29-2006 11:43 PM

Cops are good. Depends on the country though. In America we leave ourselves open to interpretation. Other countries don't. So simple dumb asses think that we are bad because we let everything hang out. Go to France, Germany, Russia, China, Poland, Spain etc..... you will never get the news coverage you do in America. We let everything hang out. Ok Canada and England does A LITTLE BIT............ Scott. haha (nothing like America)

My point being is that you can't judge one person off a whole community. This industry fights to be separated from one idiot that make the head line news for doing wrong, but yet everyone here wants to judge a whole community of protectors off of the few who are assholes. Kinda stupid if you ask me.

But hey what do I know. I stay TRUE AND LOYAL to my friends. I don't tell a person I feel one way and then turn around and STAB them in their back. Like my title says CHARACTER COUNTS!!! $$$$ doesn't! I stay true to my words. I have met quit a few people who claim to be honest great people tell me to MY FACE they didn't care for someone and then in the same day which I couldn't believe how easy their lips were stuck to this persons ass they claimed they didn't care for. haha Whatever! Says A LOT about that persons core! To each their own. Like I said Character counts. It always shows through. You get one life and one chance. KEY WORDS: ONE CHANCE! :1orglaugh

Thurbs 01-29-2006 11:45 PM

this reminds me of an old pc game called Outpost, where you reform society on another planet. u build police units, and choose whether or not they are benevolent or malevolent by default.

i think alot of cops are good, but you just dont hear about it, news is drama, and bad sells, id say Im about 50/50 with any run-in ive had or been near, lot like life, good people, bad people.

media 01-29-2006 11:46 PM

I picked bad.. because you did not have the option "not all, but most"

Good, anyone who thinks otherwise needs to grow the fuck up and look at the big picture.

pocketkangaroo 01-29-2006 11:52 PM

Would be interesting to hear people and their bad stories with cops.

Mine was in college and we were at a Hardees around 1am. I was on my way out with a friend and this cop was walking in. I kind of held the door on my way out for him but let him take it from there. I guess he thought I was holding it open for him. It wasn't a big deal, happens all the time.

Well he grabs me by the shirt and throws me up against the wall. Mind you the cop was smaller than me, but I can't really fight back. He starts screaming at me and telling me he should haul my ass into jail. He got mad because when he said something to me at first, I laughed because I seriously thought he was joking. He said some more stuff about kicking my ass or whatever and then left me to go home. I was pretty shook up by the whole thing, but the officer had a reputation in town for this.

Rochard 01-29-2006 11:53 PM

I'm well known for my need for speed.

Yet it seems most of the time when I get pulled over, I walk away with a warning. Twice in the past two months come to think of it.

Your comment only pertains to your own opinion really, some of us have had experiences with the police that give us other opinions, I've had more BAD run ins with cops than good ones, but I do know a few good cops personally. And they tend to also think that most cops are power hungry idiots.

My opinion was voiced with a vote of bad, because like I said, there was not a "Most are bad, but not all" option...

Elli 01-29-2006 11:55 PM

Officer Brown had a reputation for picking up high school girls who were out after dark and giving them a ride home in his cruiser - via the scenic route.

This was in 2001 when I just moved up here...

I was driving down the street at about 2:30am in the morning (working on norway time at that point) and I had passed an Albertsons parking lot where a cop was..

About 10 seconds after I pass, I notice the cop pulling out hauling ass to catch up with me.

I make my way around the 6th street bridge, and the cop is about 50 yards behind me coming on me. As I approach the intersection coming off the bridge, I look at the light to see it is GREEN, I check one more time as I am mid interesection. still GREEN.

I look in the rear view as I am approaching the second intersection light and I see the cop step on his breaks to come to a stop, I get a yellow light, so I stop.

Shortly after I stop, I notice the cop put his red and blues on to pass throught the interseciton, he pulls up behind me and sits there with his lights off. As soon as the light turns green he puts his lights on again to pull me over.

I make a right turn and pull to a side street.. The officer approaches with his gun hand on his gun, and says to me "You know you ran a red light back there right?"

I laughed in his face and told him that he was mistaken, and that I was positive that I had passed under the intersection during a green light, I informed him that I saw him stop at the yellow light which I had also gotten a yellow light on at the next light, and that I saw him put his lights on to get behind me.

He stated that he did not put his lights on to get behind me. and that I should give him my license, registration, and proof of insurance, I did so very willingly.

He comes back and says that even though I had california plates, insurance, registration, and had been living in oregon everything seemed ok, and he said I was still getting a red light ticket, and to have a good night and good luck in oregon.

I called bullshit, and he said again, have a good night and drove away.

Doesn't matter if they are good or bad as long as they do their job

Loryn 01-30-2006 12:08 AM

Let's dance...........put on your red shoes and dance with me...............:wetkiss

Stacey_JoinRightNow 01-30-2006 12:11 AM

Cops can sometimes be good or bad... Bec. we cant deny it they are still dirty cops around, so sad bec. they kinda abuse their power...

KRL 01-30-2006 12:12 AM

Law enforcement guys are for the most part a very dedicated group. Of course, like any organization with thousands of people you're bound to have a fewbad apples in the mix.

I did Police K-9 training with some friends who were LAPD cops when I lived in LA. Fun as hell to be out with those guys. For sure there is a power high you get when you are "the law" and no one can fuck with you.

Now, I support the police and sheriff organizations in my community, so when you get to know these guys as people you get a different perspective than what you get when you get a speeding ticket. LOL

bdld 01-30-2006 12:52 AM

cops are good, they do a job most people would be scared to do
