I grew up in the 70's and rock music was the most influential thing that framed my viewpoint on life... Way more influential than parents, teachers, ministers...
First record I listened to was John Lennon's first solo one and I used to play it over and over trying to make sense of it all. |
mm.. i dunno... i grew up in the 80's and started watching Madonna's Borderline at age 6 or so, so I guess it would have to be the Material Girl herself. She's an icon.
|
There have been many that have changed things at differenjt times, but some of the MOST memorable...
Tainted Love, Soft Cell 1000 Miles, Vanessa Carlton U Can't Touch This, MC Hammer In The Air Tonight, Phil Collins ;-) |
I used to listen to pop music until a friend played me Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind album.....I thought it was awesome and have been a rocker ever since I was 15.

the song that really did it for me was
bitches ain't shit, but hoes and tricks.....by snoop |
I saw Metallica at the Oakland Coliseum in high school. Took shrooms for the first time. Ate too many and almost lost it. Went to the top deck, sat alone and watched the swirling of bodies in the pit while Metallica sang "Seek and Destroy". Everything was calm again and I felt at ease. Then Guns'N Roses came on and I left the stadium and walked around the parking lot until my trip ended. Every time I listen to aggressive metal now, I feel calm and relaxed.
I saw Pink Floyd at the Oakland Coliseum in highschool. About 30 rows back, on mushrooms. Started to cry during "High Hopes" for some reason; was really a moving song. I looked around and other people were crying to (or maybe it was the shrooms). Anyway. Those are two of the most defining moments where music is involved (well music and drugs). |
The song "Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)" from Styx's Grand Illusion album came out just as I was hitting puberty. I remember that whole album was inspirational for me.
Then Pink Floyd and Roger Waters -- "The Wall" is my all-time favorite. Steve Lightspeed |
G-Unit - Popping Them Thangs had a huge impact on me.
|
"Ride The Wind" by Poison has always been one of my feel-good songs.. not so much changing my life as it's inspirational.
|
In the late 80's, KRS-One, Public Enemy, and then NWA rocked my word forever.

Spandau Ballett is the group and the song is True. It is pure romance and the ladies love the song....
Mr. Romance |
Guns N Roses in the early 90s when I was young. I still maintain that November Rain was the greatest song ever written.
|
Forgot to mention "pachelbel canon" played on classical guitar.
Don't know which actual artist I'm referencing, but the one I have in my mp3 collection changes my life every time I listen to it. |
wow. it very hard for me to pick even one band, let alone one song that changed my life. i am a music addict. without all my music i am pretty sure i would shrivel up and die.
but overall i think Nirvana and Green Day have done the most. there are other bands that have changed alot of things for me too. for example the first time i heard Strung Out, it completely changed the my concept of how you can play a guitar. |
