I think the main problem is the Europeans want to turn the Net over to the United Nations, and the US knows they are amongst the most corrupt and incompetent organizaitons on the planet even though that too is based in the USA.

More than likely there is another reason and agenda. I'm sure the NSA has all sorts of goodies and monitoring equipment operating on the highest root levels of the Net, that even goes beyond Echelon and the US doesn't want anyone else to be able to do that or know about it.

Sheesh... the US is the most corrupt country in the western world! And part of the learned hatred of the international community is simply because it is that - namely an assembly of nations with more "power" as a group. More power means "something to hate" in caveman terms.

On an EU commission on the net... Hell, they have their own agenda and can be trusted with shit. Rest assured the EU will go the same way as the US over time.

Ya can always rely on "powers" to start a war over ... well... anything and try to control it while screwing it up in the process. That's what happens when countries find their boots bursting at the seams.

The United Nations is nothing more than an apology by the United States for dropping "the bomb" on Japan. It is a fucking joke at best and the wrost a political tool used by america to give the appearance of "give-a-shitness" to the problems on the international scene.

I'm certain there is some corruption in it. All political organizations do.
But I'm more certain that it is incompetent to the point of being a bad joke.

More would get done and there would be great stability in the world if we just got rid of the damn organization.

For example the George Bush would have either ordered the military out of Iraq by now. Or he would have used an extreme amount of force to fix the problem.

Not only that.. But it gives the United States a measure of control over the economies of other nations that have come to depend on the net. There are two ways to seize control of another country. The first is by force and the second is by controling their economy.

Its not that hard to setup an account overseas, your biggest problem is going to be how to update it.. Remember if the Internet splits you won't see it. Like you can't see Chinese Websites because they are blocked from your view.

Can't see it happening despite the mumblings of an EU Commission. They also, don't "own" the net tho they may have more "seats at screens" than anyone.

Sure, the EU has a point up to a level.. eg. why the fuck is ICANN still a sub-contrator for the US govt? A DNS authority "should" be isolated from any govts - including the EU.

Who knows if it is related to NSA/Echelon. The EU used to split costs with the US on other areas where satellite comms were used, but had reason to distrust this cosy relationship and have been going their own route for a few years now.

Another more public aspect is taxation on net revenue - the EU loves to collect taxes as much as the US and they are slowly adopting the concept of "control" which is now widespread in the US. (Is that not what any group of people/nations try do when they form themselves into a cohesive unit? :winkwink: )
