This is catastrophic: 2.5 million dead

Deads because of the war in Congo is estimated to 2.5 million people. Still now, thousands are dying every day of diseases, which can be stopped.

The country face the one of the biggest humanitary catastrophics ever. Compared to the tsunami, its like getting hit every 6-8th month!

Time to open the eyes???

Sadly, you are correct...

Exactly my point with "time to open the eyes"

You can choose to ignore the millions of innocent children, let them die and watch fox news instead.
For every dead person in New Orleans, 500 kids die and it cost the same to save them 1:500

You know the "aid" we give them will just go to the warlords with the guns right? Barely any food will go to the people that really need it.

Unicef work in the field, and you can read about the people, where and what the money is used for here: http://www.unicef.org/people/people_partners.html

Remember Bill Clinton? He was a real friend to black Africans. He let 800,000 people get slaughtered in Rwanda. He had the power to stop it and he did NOTHING.

Exactly the same happening in Congo now. And in ten years from now, people will watch Hotel Rwanda "part II", and say "wow - what a touching movie. I wish we did something back then - lets nominate it for an oscar" - same people/mentality that ignore the stuff going on there right now.

I know there are other things going on, but this is MUCH MUCH worser. It's critical. People just can't see it. Children are left behind.

BradM 09-03-2005 03:55 PM

I'll donate when we go in and destroy the guerillas and the governments in place that allow this shit to go on. Kill the leaders, replace them with American friendly ones, fix the country from the top down. Squash anyone who resists. Then we can help them. Otherwise we are feeding money into a cycle.

WarChild 09-03-2005 03:57 PM

1/3 of the entire continent is HIV postive.
Some African nations have average life expectancy of less than 35 years, due to AIDS.
The entire continent is near bankrupt.

At this point, can anything even be done?

NOT true

Rwanda cannot be compared to Congo

Rwanda it all happened in a short period of time

right now there is NO war going on in Congo like there was in Rwanda,

the death toll you named are the deaths of more than 25 years of civil war,

there is no real war right now in Congo, but their are occasional clashes between the Congo army and the Rwanda army

people like you spitting bullshit like this is not a good thing

Did you read this on top?
"Deads because of the war in Congo is estimated to 2.5 million people. Still now, thousands are dying every day of diseases, which can be stopped."

That number is from 4-5 years of war, and today children are suffering. This comes directly from U.N. first aid coordinators.... Go to some independant news sources and tell me if I am bullshitting.

the numbers you are giving are just not accurate

the war there is not something from the last 5 years, the situation in Congo is not as bad as you want to make it look like

my uncle acutally is from Congo , so I kind of know what I am talking about

there has been a war there though for many many years, but its one that sporadicly lights up

its a mess there right now in Congo, but not to be compared with what happened in Rwanda in '94 at all

A girl that I went to school with was the daugher of the owner one of the largest Diamond import companies in the world, and she had visited there a loit. She said that in some parts, any large rock you break or turn over has a small, and sometimes large diamond in it. But if you get caught messing with them, you go to jail. It is tightly controlled by a few.

So wait a second here. Are you trying to tell me that people in positions of power tend to abuse that power all over the World? Here I thought it was just George Bush.

Well right now, it's time for Americans to help themselves. Every day of every year for the past 45 years that I can remember there have been pleas from African countries for help. Americans, out of the goodness of their hearts donate hundreds of millions of dollars every year for African countries and supposedly to battle world hunger... and it seems we never even make a dent... Personally, I think it's high time we spend our money helping the homeless here in this country where our money will do the most good. Africans can take care of themselves for a while and let the Darwin theory of Evolution handle their problem. Sorry to sound so cold but right now it's survival of the fittest... and America is the fittest.

SHGB 09-03-2005 04:35 PM

This is the fucking world we live in...if they are stupid enough to fight and then die from hunger let them do that! This is a crazy world we small people are NOTHING what can we do??????? Donate? huh...yes we can donate and donate but nothing will change...people will always suffer because of their own leaders! For example in NIGER (africa) millions will die from hunger soon because their leaders changed some food policy...something...something...to be able to make more money...and millions will die and are dieing right now....

So what the hell can we do? If you are to small to make a difference in this world its best to just ignore that kind of news at least you will think that you live in a better world and feel better.

There are 1000's of people that really can make the big differace in this world but they don't care!

not saying that, but 1/3 of the entire population of africa being infected seems a bit exaggerated to me :2 cents:

Actually you could be right. I think it was 1/3 of the Adult population of South Africa. It's nowhere near as bad in West Africa.

Zaire I think it is now has a life expectancy of only 33 years. :(

BlueDesignStudios 09-03-2005 05:08 PM

it's sad, it doesn't even get any news time, no-one really cares and yet the numbers are shocking

I would donate money for condoms, but chances are someone will say that if you had sex using a condom that your crop will fail and your pecker will turn into a lion and bite you in the balls
