Don't donate, it won't help. Behind every 3rd world nation entrenched in civil war is a 1st world nation. Third world nations don't have the technology or capability to manufacture weapons. Weapons are sold to those countries. In return is slave labor and natural resources. The majority of the people go hungry. The organizations to help the starving are either legitimate (and in that case they're only putting a bandid on the wound - that's why nothing has changed nor will change even after more than 50 years already) or they're businesses themselves lining their own pockets. Basically, the situation won't change for a long time. It won't change since we (collectively 1st world nations) benefit from it. I'm not a holier than thou person. Honestly, I rarely think about starving people in Africa or elsewhere. I guess in that way I'm part of the problem. |

It will only change when we're compelled to really help for one reason or another. It's like driving our gas guzzling cars. It doesn't matter how much damage to the environment we cause, we'll all still drive for as long as we can. We'll only stop if it gets so bad that we're dropping like flies because of the level of air pollution. |

Too many people on this earth anyway !! |

One thing that really pisses me off is how it's always the KIDS starving year after year after year. Hell, if I didn't have food or water for myself, I sure as hell wouldn't bring a child into the same situation. |

Amazing and crass responses on this thread. Yet the same people started to whine when they (inaccurately) assumed other countries would not help with the Katrina disaster. Anyone ever noticed the total donations for Katrina aid four days after the appeals were set up? Just over 100 million. Pathetic when ya consider the extent of the disaster and a few people included in that donated $1m themselves. Little chance overweight papered nations can be expected to help the starving in third world countries - either in monitory value or excess body fat - when they can hardly help their own citizens while thinking about the price of gas. |
