I just went by a Union 76 station this AM.. and I saw Full Service gas was $3.55 a gallon :helpme Premium here in California is above 3.00 a gallon for self-serve. And Oil Company Profits are at an all time high.

It is time for US CAROWNERS to ban together, spread the word, and send the oil companies a message that we are just not gonna take it anymore.

I am staying home for Labor Day Weekend. and I am vowing to not purchase ONE DROP OF gasoline during the weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon). I am going to make sure my cars have gas before the weekend and boycott all gas purchases during these 4 days. Hell, Im even gonna be sure Ive got gas for my RCBoats before the weekend.

IF we all get on the bandwagon and do the same, the oil companies will SHIT their corporate slacks.

This will take commitment from everyone. Stay Home, BBQ, work on the house (make sure you have gas in advance for the lawnmower, etc) and enjoy the Holiday. JUST DONT BUY ANY GASOLINE.

and hey, if youve got holiday plans already, then get your gasoline for travel early if possible... WE CAN BE HEARD !!!

Things like this have been tried before, and failed.

What is the difference if you fuel up before the weekend or during? They are still getting the money.

And BigB - You have never been one to save on Gasoline! Do you still have your 5.0?

With that said, I usually have to fill up on Thursdays... :-)

Won't work unless you decide to sell your car :) Filling it up with gas before the weekend doesn't put any less $$$ in the oil company's pockets.

Plus, gas in the US is still a bargain compared to most other industrialized nations. We complain but it could be SO much worse. It's STILL not as expensive as it was in the 80's.

No Sales for 4 days.. What if there were no sales on websites for (4) days?
Hell yeah we would all feel it... Hell yeah we would all be running around in a panic... hell yeah the oil companies will be the same way... scheduled deliverys wont be made, because gas stations have sold little gas and cant take a truckload... The gas companies will be in Havoc... just like any business would with no sales in 4 days.

and yes sharky.. I still have my (3) watercraft at the river that drink gas too
(you know damn well how much two of them driink as I have (2) 1200s now.) that is why I want gas prices to come back down ... So I can enjoy my petrol burning toys!!

A better solution is for us to switch to alcohol. It would take less than 500.00 to convert any existing cars fuel system to burn alcohol. All rubber parts would have to be replaced with silicone parts.

Alcohol will burn cleaner, and gives 100% of HP and 90% of fuel efficiency than gas.

Then we need to build an infrastructure to manufacture the alcohol.

Then we get our farmers.. who are starving for $$ to grow crops that easily convert to alcohol and we start growing our fuel...

But you see.. politicians will not vote for this.. because they are funded by the allmighty oil company $$$$$.

The oil companies already conditioned us to be used to the prices.

Like when gas used to be $2.
Then they shot it up to $2.50.
Then they lowered it to $2.15
Nobody complained because it wasn't $2.50

At least in Colorado, I don't think gas will ever drop below $2.00 / gal again. Why would it, when people would be happy if it dropped to $2.20.

IMO It is all a ploy to raise the level of gas.

Right now everyone is complaining that gas is so expensive and the oil companies are taking too much profit. I'm willing to bet that once we hit the peak it will stay that way for several months and then all of sudden drop. Once we hit the peak and have sustained it for a period of time you'll then see a farely quick drop down 10% - 15% in prices.

This way consumers that were used to paying $3.50 or whatever, will feel like they're suddenly getting a discount and will be happy about. When in reality they just went thru a sharp price climb.

My how I miss my xl1200! It's hard to believe it's been 6 years now.
The power of the internet will not overcome the want/need for automobiles on labor day weekend! I will be tailgating at a Bucs football game from the back of my New Chevy Suburban and cooking on my propane grill. It's my way of life, and high gas prices won't stop me.

Although, if gas hits $3/gal here I am raising my prices and blaming it on the cost of gas that takes me to cash my checks at the bank!

Ive taken good care of her.
122 hrs on her now.
She now has Riva Race Exhaust System which increased the power and mileage. Top end is about 60 mph, but much more power in low and midrange.

I ride a 2000 XP1200 (2seater) now.

We dont go to the river as much as we used to because of gas prices.
Also.. we almost always car pool now to and from - where before I think we used to take 3 cars for our group of 4 RiverRats.

and sharky.. try banking by net or by mail. I bank at a credit union that is about 20 miles from my house (Firemans Credit Union - my stepdad was a fireman) and I have not been there in 2 yrs. Takes time and money to go to the bank. Thats so 80s anyway.

Oil company margins are far from the biggest: why should they be expected to exercise social responsibility that - for example - drug companies are not? Come to that, what right do we have to complain about the cost of gas, so long as many of us are driving around with inefficiently designed engines, twice the size they need to be?

Rising gas prices are simply chickens coming home to roost and were it not for our support of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, they would already be much higher. As our influence in the Middle East wanes and assuming the demand from countries like China (in particular) continues to increase, gas prices aren't going anywhere except up.

More refining capacity and even government intervention are possible, although unlikely. In any case we are at the stage now such that any drop in price will be temporary. Like it or not, we are finally going to have to decide our priorities and if handing a major part of our incomes to gas stations isn't up there, we shall either have to reduce our mileage and/or switch to more economical vehicles.

I've heard much better idea ....
To start buying gas only from one company for several days . Other will start dropping down prices in order to attract customers .... then everybody start buying gas from some other company that has lower prices .... etc. :thumbsup

The message we need to send is to start drilling in Alaska, Colorado and New Mexico, increase the number of refineries, and restart the nuclear power programs

Why do you want to give the oil company employess a 3 day weekend? Everyone should wait to get their gas until the weekend and then create gas lines around the block and make the fuckers work their asses off instead.

There is a limited amount of oil in the world and it will be gone in about 50 years or so.
It's logic the prices are getting higher since oil is getting more rare everyday.

i really could care less about gas prices, i drive a car because i don't want to walk and i get 10 mpg because its hot as hell in texas and i need my ac at full blast.

Agreed there is a larger demand for oil now that the US economic policy is creating millions of jobs in China. However, the margins the US oil companies are making have sky rocketed and will continue to stay very high as long as the administrations family and friends are making huge profits from it.

Don't kid yourself. There is a higher demand for the product but the margins have gone up much more then supply and demand would warrant. Have you read the recently passed energy bill, which creates even more profit for the oil companies. Between the oil companies and the banks that will start foreclosing in vast numbers around 2008, the American people will be owned.

You can start resolving the issue next November.

Actually that is a contradiction in terms, unless of course the theory behind supply-demand economics is all wrong. And unless it reduces demand, it's actually the duty (to their shareholders) of oil companies to push prices/margins as high as they will go.

In any case you might just as well ask why we aren't performing a social service by selling porn on a sub-10% margin (which is all some industries work on). Either all the profit the market will bear is a good thing, or it isn't: you don't get to pick and choose.

A Labor Day gasoline boycott is a good idea. But it is just a start. We need a more comprehensive solution.

We need to wean ourselves off of foreign oil.

This means adding more guzzler taxes on SUVs, buying smaller cars, car pooling, better mass transport, biodiesel, hydrogen, solar panels or your house, windmills in our back yards.. whatever it takes!

This awful oil dependency is hurting our productivity, reducing our quality of life, making our country less secure, AND damaging the environment.
