This won't work for various reasons, the main reason being that there are thousands of other things that require oil in one way or another. Everything from logistics to manufacturing to travel to whatever else you can think of. Think about it, we use trucks to move practically everything in this country, use ships to import and export, use planes to fly, oil is used to manufacture everything from plastic to aluminum to steel to paper. A few hundred people not filling up their tank one day won't do a damn thing. Oil is not a renewable resource, therefore there is less oil today then there was yesterday, and there will be less oil tomorrow than there is today. Therefore, oil tomorrow will be worth more than it was today and oil today is worth more than it was yesterday. Simple economics. :2 cents:

I made a post about this..we need to stop buying from certain companies its the only way to have an effect.. or start burning some mother fuckers down

That's a fantastic idea. It's too bad that I'm going to end up spending $500+ on gas this weekend, between two V8's driving up to the lake and my jetboat running the whole time. God dammit.

This would work better ... since it's a very long term loss for the biggest compagny :
http://www.kittystrips.com/blog/?p=24 Pay $1.50 FOR GAS EVERYWHERE?READ ALL OF IT?its not that hard guys?we have hundreds of great companies out there including BP?Shell?say goodbye 2 Exxon and Mobile I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the ?don?t buy gas on a certain day? campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn?t continue to ?hurt? ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join with us! By now you?re probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.75 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50-$1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace?. not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can?t just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here?s the idea: For the rest of this year, DON?T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. ?its not that hard guys?we have several reliable gas companies out there including BP?Shell?just say goodbye 2 Exxon and Mobile?it will work! But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It?s really simple to do!! Now, don?t whimp (sic) out on me at this point? keep reading and I?ll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)? and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ? and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it?.. THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people and DON?T purchase ANY gasoline from EXXON and MOBIL. That?s all. How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I?ll bet you didn?t think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK |

Yes, profits are at a all the time while they have more than enough oil to meet the demand.............. :Oh crap
|
Actually, it would be kinda cool if we could all find a way to bring the prices down. That way we'll run out of the shit even faster and be done with it.

Silly, silly people. It's Economics 101, people. Supply and demand and all that. You can't all drive a Ford Gargantua towing your jet skis and your dirt bikes and expect that gas will stay cheap. Let me try to simple it down to the bottom line:
GAS IS EXPENSIVE BECAUSE YOU'RE BUYING TOO MUCH OF IT!!!!!!!!!!! Wanna help the price of gas go down? Most of us work at home, but how many of us consolidate our "errands" into one day a week in an organized route to optimize gas usage? If you don't work at home, how many times a week do to you take something other than your car to work? On the weekends, how often do you stay local and ride your bike or walk to a restaurant or wherever you want to go out? Most likely you're a typical American who loads up the Escalade to drive down to the corner store to buy some smokes. Who gasses up all their toys and the big car and drives more than an hour away every weekend. Who can't be bothered to figure out a carpool or how public transportation works because it's inconvenient. You want to make a difference? Change starts at home. We drive our car 2x a week on average. My husband and I bought a house in a specific location so that he could use public transportation to get to work and save us gas, wear and tear and parking fees. The changes seem strange and difficult at first, but once it becomes a habit it's easy. Gas could be $10 a gallon and it wouldn't affect our day to day lives much. Would make it tougher to go on vacation, but day to day things wouldn't change. |

:thumbsup People can learn to live like this now, or they can learn to live like it later... but they WILL learn. Only the ultra elite rich will be able to do otherwise. |
Coke - reasonable.
Coppertone spf 45 - a bargain at any price. The coppertone sport in the blue bottle is the shiz nit yo. Pepto - overpriced for what it is. Visine - extortion. They should be nailed for price fixing the entire eye care industry. Gas - still not outrageous in the US. It is still cheaper than milk but not for long. |
No offense to anyone here, but most of you are showing complete ignorance and lack of knowledge of economics in this thread. Go read my post on page one, a simple few sentences that even the most ignorant of people should be able to grasp.

There have been numerous good ideas to fight a number of social and economical problems.. and if (IF) people would band together, things would get done, but the Boston Tea Party days are long since over...
Most people would rather keep paying higher gas prices, fear the IRS, yada yada, than to go with any plan that could change this country for the better.. Everyone just wants to live their own life and not have to be inconvenienced in such a way... |

The reason it never works is because oil companies work on a weekly schedule. So unless you can convince everyone to boycott gas for an entire week it won't make a difference.

I've never purchased 25 gallons of Vicks 44D Cough Syrup. If my car used gasonline the way that I buy cough syrup which is never then I wouldn't care. You can't blame car owners either for buying relatively inefficient vehicles. With gas at less than $2.00/gallon which frankly is still high it isn't hard to justify the expense. However, those vehicles were purchased prior to he major hike in prices. You can't say "It serves you right". |
