Water vapor builds up around an U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet as it breaks the sound barrier during a fly-by near the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) in this military handout photo.

That's a old pic if it's the one where he did the fly by of the aircraft carrier.. There is also a pretty cool vid of him doing it floating around the net..

This is a fake pic that was modified with photoshop. First you would never do a flyby a carrier at or close to the speed of sound since you would damage equipment and man on the carrier with the sounds barrier vibration as well as the noise.
Second water vapor doesn't form when you fly so fast. In fact the aircraft frame gets hot from the friction of the speed which if anything would evaporate any water vapor around it.
So all in all, nice picture but it is a fake :winkwink:

thats sick.

i got to fly in an f-16 when i was in the air force. i was not a pilot but they have these things called incentive flights. i got to ride in the back seat. scared the living hell out of me, but i got used to it after a few rolls and started having the best time of my life.

Basic_man 07-31-2005 08:29 AM

Wow, this pic is so cool ! Nice shot :thumbsup

I can tell you that you are 100% wrong. I've seen a vid of this, taken as a fighter jet did a flyby of a aircraft carrier.

Quimby if that pic was taken this year then it's a diffrent one than the one that has the vid.. As the one I'm talking about was a year or two old.

btw I just found a pic of the one I was talking about

dumbass.

cspdinc 07-31-2005 08:50 AM

what your seeing is the boundry layer being shed as it increases in speed. The air molucules that were clinging to the wings in clumps (drag) can no longer remain in there original form and are shed for a more sleeker aerodynamic profile.

Great pic, I remember seeing a similar one on the front page of the paper a few years ago. Stuck it up on the wall at the time. Amazing stuff

axelcat 07-31-2005 08:52 AM

Get a clue man! I've seen this done many times at airshows. :321GFY

Redrob 07-31-2005 12:04 PM

the pressure from the shockwave causes a cloud of water vapor to form.

So you have to tell me, did you just take what you think you know and make up an elaborate response as to why this is fake or are you really retarded?

WarChild 07-31-2005 12:05 PM

Those Super Hornets are amazing. Saw one up close and personal at an airshow. Insane power in those things.

Thomas1007 07-31-2005 12:06 PM

that looks very cool
would like to see the vid
:thumbsup

The next time you watch the Shuttle lift off, watch the nose of the ET. Prior to "Go at Throttle Up" command (which is when they're passing through Max. Dynamic Pressure, i.e., the Sound Barrier, you'll see a "halo" form around the nose of the External Tank.

I guess NASA does instant Photoshop on their liftoff video, eh?

S P A N N O W 07-31-2005 12:11 PM

Oh yeah, its a fake, and here's the video footage to prove it - they never do flybys at sea - idiots!

http://spannow.adult.com/airplane_wake.mpeg

It would be nice if the folks calling it fake actually knew something about aviation - try serving on board an aircraft carrier for a few years. Eventually you'd see all kinds of fake shit.. :1orglaugh

http://spannow.adult.com/carrier.jpg

johnnyhey 07-31-2005 12:14 PM

p.s. they do the flybys to improve morale aboard the flatop. watching supersonic flight has a tendency to light the fires of all on board who witness it.

Just looking at the Abbotsford Airshow site. They are going to have one there, but only on the Static Display. Guess I'll just have to go watch them take off on the Monday.

RedShoe 07-31-2005 12:19 PM

awesome videos. My old man was in the airforce. I don't see how anyone would call the pics or vids fake. Strange.

yeah I caught it at Abbotsford Airshow like 2 years back or something like that. Awesome display.

They did this fly over in some sort of silent mode, I forget what it was called. Anyway, the plane was angled in the air about 30 degrees or so with the nose up and the tail down. It came overhead and I swear you couldn't hear a damned thing from it. Then it powered up and appeared to go straight up in to the Sun. Most amazing display I've ever witnessed at an airshow. :thumbsup

Actually I called your mama and asked her for an answer on this issue before hand so if anyone is retarded, you might want to look at your family family genes.
