Should be pretty sweet. Depp's an awesome actor... if anyone can out-crazy Gene Wilder, it'll be him. :thumbsup

you are going to judge an entire mans career on one movie?

what about Big Fish, Sleepy Hollow, Mars Attacks!, Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands, Batman, Beetle Juice and Pee-wee's Big Adventure

if tim burton puts what he did in those, into charlie, it will be a instant classic

and I normally hate remakes too, but come on, with the technology and CGI like we have today, i think they will do a damn good job....

Jace 04-08-2005 07:01 PM

and not just that, the original movie was Willy Wionka and the Chocolcate Factory, whcih was a collective story gathering a bunch of different stories...this movie is the actual book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...so in a way it is a remake, but it also is a movie telling this one individual story

Jace 04-08-2005 07:02 PM

scratch that

rewind

it was a gathering of the two charlie stories....this is just the one book told as a movie

there that sounded better

NoCarrier 04-08-2005 07:07 PM

WHERE ARE THE OOMPA LOOMPAS!?!?

MandyBlake 04-08-2005 07:08 PM

now that's one i DEFINITELY want to see.

I'm not ranking on his whole body of work. I just hate that Hollywood is so bankrupt of original ideas that they keep selling my childhood back to me.

Just say "NO!" to remakes!

RevSand 04-08-2005 07:37 PM

I am looking forward to it!! Should be good..

If it were a remake, maybe I'd feel the same way; but, it's a taste of my childhood, brought back..since this is based on the actual stories...I don't think this takes anything away from Gene Wilder......like Finding Neverland is not another Peter Pan movie.

I have to admit Johnny Depp is such a multi faceted actor, I'm pretty excited.

i think you might be suprised when you see them in this new movie

Quote:

"If you've seen the cinematic version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you'll notice some differences between the book and the movie. Most notably perhaps are the Oompa-Loompas. In the film, they are orange creatures with bright green hair that work and sing in white overalls. In Dahl's book, the Oompa-Loompas are black pygmies from Dark Africa wearing deer skins and leaves. (Considering this book came out in 1964, one can easily see why the change was made for the film.)"

Raven 04-08-2005 08:21 PM

The book was a wee bit different than the Gene Wilder version. Might not appeal to everyone....

nekrom 04-08-2005 08:26 PM

Will they be intergrating any of the concpets from the "Glass Elevator" sequal to the first book? That would be neat.

that is what they did for the first movie, so no, i don't think so...i think they are sticking 100% to the first book

just a wee?

i thought it was completely different..very dark and twisted

nekrom 04-08-2005 08:31 PM

Hurm I thought the original movie (classic) ended with Charlie and co, leaving via the glass elevator which then would have been the start of a sequal had they done it. I could be wrong but I thought the 2nd book was never brought to screen.

Vitasoy 04-08-2005 08:39 PM

Looks actually pretty cool. Will check it out.

i must be confused about your question

there were two books made

then a movie with gene wilder which incorporated both books into one movie

now, many years later, there is a new movie coming out with johnny depp which is totally seperate from any movie that has been made before, it is not a sequel or anything...this is a movie based on the first book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...and will have nothing to do with Charlie and the Glass Elevator

nekrom 04-08-2005 09:04 PM

Yup sounds about right, regardless it looks like a rocking modern version non the less.
