If I recall correctly, my flight landed to Tel Aviv, from there I took a drive to Jerusalem.. then from there thru the desert to Eilat... I assume I saw quite a bit of the country. Filthy.

Few modern buildings and lights in the night dont make a country modern. But safety, democracy, laws, etc make it modern.

Israel is a modern countries with some 3rd world areas, however, go to the suburbs of Detroit, or some horrendous areas north of Paris and you will see the same kind of 3rd world areas :2 cents:

Of course it is not. It is hardly a post colonial , pre-industrial state. It has a high per capita income and its economy is not agrarian in nature. Also don't forget it is a relatively free democracy although that is more of a first world criteria rather then a indicator of third world status.
