Are gym memberships worth it?

Anyone here go to the gym?

Is it worth it, meaning, did you find yourself motivated to go at first only to find yourself not going anywhere as much as you thought you would.

CET 11-15-2004 09:02 PM

I have a gym membership and I use it all the time. It's worth it to me, but that's me. I see it this way, if you're going to pay for it, you had better use it unless you relish wasting money. :2 cents:

Rankings 11-15-2004 09:05 PM

I love my membership. I go regularly and look forward to it.

n3in 11-15-2004 09:06 PM

I paid $10 for my membership and got my moneys worth in the first week. after that i got lazy and stopped going. i cant find the motivation to go somewhere else and work out with machines when i can just use my freeweights at home.

sickkittens 11-15-2004 09:06 PM

Anyone know how much places like Bally's are?

GTS Mark 11-15-2004 09:07 PM

I paid for a year in advance. What a waste, I have been less than 20 times this year...

The gym I go to is too small and too busy. I have to go in on odd hours or I have to wait for machines and treadmills. Kinda sucks!

Well owning a gym is really the best business there is, well on of anyways. In the fact that 70% of people that sign up for gym memberships , never use them. They all go for a month(if that) then quit.

xmas and new years are the best times of year for them too, people give them as gifts, make resolutions to go workout and never do.

So they get paid for lots of service that they never have to provide.

I just got one myself, and plan on using it until the warm weather hits again. We'll see how long i can last, I used be into kickboxing so that is where i got my previous exercise. This winter it'll be the weights.

good luck, hope you find a routine that works for you!

Spunky 11-15-2004 09:07 PM

Gotta have the motivation for sure..I don't know how these people can go 6 times a week.

KRL 11-15-2004 09:08 PM

bullshit for 80% of the people

I used to go to Bally's but it reminded me of a dance club and the Bally's I went to was completely gay. Don't get me wrong I am not homophobic in the least, but if you went to this gym you would understand. No less than 5 drama queens working out together ripping on other people working out and what they were wearing. LOL!

gyms are great for motivation while your there, problem is motivating yourself to actually get ready to go, i prefer to workout at home with dumbbells, its cheaper in the long run.

azguy 11-15-2004 09:09 PM

YES! The only reason I go to my gym is... JENNA JAMESON. I see her at least once a week, and she doesn't look that bad after a Yoga class ;-)

wes 11-15-2004 09:09 PM

it is worth it

sickkittens 11-15-2004 09:10 PM

I used to run mostly to stay in shape but since I moved, teh pnly decent place to jog and run is on a track which gets pretty boring after awhile. I may end up seeing if they have a free trial or something to see what I will bother using when I get there.

Bigwilly 11-15-2004 09:18 PM

if your gonna do it do it right, you have to be motivated. Ive been goin for 2 years and am addicted to it. Its neat watchin your body change and i love gettin second looks from women. Not to mention its probably a better use of time than any other hobby you can think of. If your interested sign up with the forms on www.bodybuilding.com , tracking your progress can also help you stay motivated.

I guess both. There are PLENTY of hot girls in there (and for $200 a month there better be!)... She just happens to be a famous one. Hehe.

But the real reason is that the place is packed with quality audience, which is always good for business. One good business relationship pays for the entire year's membership, that's how I see it.

Usually big fitness centers and health clubs are pretty expensive and want a 3 year contract. I go to a mom & pop gym that gives me 1 year contract at $40/month. There are some gyms that charge month to month, but they're really uncommon. If you are committed, then signing the contract isn't a big deal. You will almost always get a gym that's closer to your house and they're often cheaper if you agree to a contract. You might want to find a month to month gym anyway, just to see if you'll stick with it. :2 cents:

I pay 170 a month for my own private locker, laundry service, coffee, fruit, a private lounge, telephones, towels, deodorant, shampoo, validated parking, and special cocktail parties and it is worth every cent.

http://thesportingclub.com/main.htm?..._content_id=46

I go every morning at 6:30 have my coffee, workout, take a sauna, shower and head into the office.

I highly recommend exercise, makes the day go by a lot quicker by jump starting your morning with some exercise.

Not bad. My $200 include a locker, private lounge, phone, internet, business center, kick-ass men's room with top quality accessories and products, and, of course, Jenna - live. But hey, now I think I'm paying too much!

$200/month?! FUCK THAT! I pay 1/5 that price and get a great workout. Besides, I don't like having too many people in my gym. It crowds the place up and too many good looking women is distracting. I'm not there to ogle, I'm there to do some damage to some iron.

I don't think that lowering carbs is nearly as important as laying off the right kind of carbs. Stay away from refined carbs as much as possible and replace them with complex carbs. This includes white bread, sugar, white rice, and corn syrup. Finally, if you remember nothing else, remember this: FRIED FOODS ARE EVIL.

I am humbled to have inspired such a thing.

I put that in my siggy because it's something I got from the gospel of Buddah while reading it and I have not been able to get that passage out of my head ever since. When I first saw it I had to stop reading for a few minutes to think about it. Almost every time I ponder that bit of scripture I get something new out of it. Even just now I got something else out of it. A passage that powerful deserves a place where it can be seen as often as possible, IMHO.

BTW, congrats on 1K! :thumbsup

If you are discplined enough to go to the gym and have the money to pay for it. Then why not.
