Bush says indecent society is gays fault.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will renew a quest in his second term for a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage as essential to a "hopeful and decent" society, his top political aide said on Sunday.

Why is Bush even bringing this up? 1/4 of all the states already have banned it and I'm quite sure MANY more states will do so in 2005, 2006, and 2007. By the 2008 election this shouldn't even be an issue since it will have been settled by the VAST majority of states. Yep Bush is a UNITER isn't he.

KRL 11-07-2004 12:23 PM

Everyone should have the right to marry whoever they damn please.

More intrusive government power mongers wanting to place their moral values on everyone else.

Fortunately it takes all 50 states to pass a constitutional amendment. I can't see the whole U.S. being THAT bigoted.

It also take a vote to put someone in office, and now 2 times in a row he has won, and people are trying to figure out how.

I think that he can do it with no problem!

Um he wants gay marriage BANNED in order to have a DECENT society. You can't see what he is saying about gays?

If he said he wanted to ban interracial marriage to keep society decent I'm quite sure you have ZERO problem seeing the racism in that statement.

The compasionate conservative believes that the government can regulate morality and that gay people are not entitled to the same rights as non gays. He encourages marriage for non gays but denies that gays have any rights.

Point is marriage is a STATES issue. Why REPUBLICAN Sof all people are for letting the FEDERAL goverment get involved in this is beyond me. 1000's of dead confederates are rolling in their graves over thier living southern brethern allowing the federal government take over thier lives more and more.

xclusive 11-07-2004 12:42 PM

Just trying to pass off the blame of the problems of this country when everybody knows that he's the problem...

Dagwolf 11-07-2004 12:43 PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...ion#Amendments

Article Five
Article Five describes the process of amending the Constitution. It provides for two methods of amendment ? either two-thirds of the state legislatures can request a convention for the purpose of considering amendments, or a two-thirds majority of both houses of Congress can pass them. After this step, all proposed amendments are sent to the states, three-fourths of whose legislatures or conventions must ratify them before the proposal can become a part of the Constitution. Article Five also sets limits on the ability to amend the Constitution, although these limits are extremely broad.

I agree. And in all 11 states where this was on the ballot, gay marriages were voted down, including in Oregon, an historically liberal state.

Here in GA they asked if we wanted an ammendment to the GA constitution to prevent gay marriages and I voted that I didn't want one. I couldn't care less if they get married.

In the US at this point and time, marriage is a joke. If they truly want to keep marriages stronger the states will get rid of no fault divorces, IMHO.

Dawgy 11-07-2004 01:11 PM

can someone please explain to me why he doesnt care if states allow civil unions, but he wants a constitutional ammendment to ban same-sex marriage? why is he against one and not the other, if he is so anti-gay and so for "decent society" ... if gay people are the scourge of the nation, why not ban both and imprison gay people?

bush's logic doesnt make sense to me, and it has nothing to do with me being gay. i seriously do not understand why he would seek to allow one, and not the other.

i also dont understand why he say she wants judges who strictly interpret the constitution, when at the same time he wants to destroy a very part of it that guarantees equal rights to every person.

if someone can explain i will gladly listen, but i just do not see the logic in either of these two actions and statements by bush.

Scootermuze 11-07-2004 02:19 PM

Bush could care less...
All he's wanting to do is suck up to the bible thumpers..
Get their support, then when he starts more bullshit he'll have them on his side for whatever support he needs..

But if a state votes against the admendment, wouldn't they become a target of " liberation " ????

1. That's a slippery slope.

2. Why not? So long as everyone involved are consenting adults, who's business is it but theirs?

I think it has something to do with "seperate but equal". :2 cents:

Identified 11-07-2004 02:52 PM

This board is so wrong on what america is all about and what's going on. First off America votes so the Goverment does not push any views on to us. We dont want same sex marriage and if you dont see why I'll name a few things for you. "In God We Trust" for starters. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children. Straight marriage will be less meaningful. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay when it's wrong! etc etc If you want to be gay be gay but in the privacy of your own home dont bring that shit out in society!
