If it was me I would have jumped out of that car and if he came at with the tire iron I would have had plenty of reason to blow his fucking knee out. Wouldn't have to do anymore then that bullet to the knee will take care of him for life. I don't know how well this would go over in court though. But since you were stuck in traffic you could say you had no other choice in fear he was going to hurt you or kidnapp you.
