That was my first thought as well... but it's been so long since I had to go laptop shopping, I wasn't sure of the latest and greatest. :)

Dell sells an extra insurance policy that is good for 3 years and only costs $200. If you crack the screen it will cost you $70 alone so I think thats a good reason to do it. Besides, when mine is 2.5 years old it might accidentally get ran over and they might have to give me a better one ;)

EDIT: The only bad thing about Dell laptops is that they are heavy.

MrIzzz 10-11-2004 08:52 PM

i will buy you one now and jump on the first plane out to meet you:thumbsup

Poor Vanilla. Not sure I have any great
hardware recommendations, but a few
jager shots will go a long way in making
you forget the whole mess!

Powerbook is good

For PC, try IBM Thinkpad R40/R50

IBM is VERY affordable these days. You don't pay for the brand anymore! Pay about $100-200 more (compared to a no-name with same specs) and get an absolutely (!) silent & extremely sturdy built PRO notebook with first class keyboard, plus the IBM notebook support.

I have 4 Dell Inspirons, 3 stationary and 1 Mobile. I noticed the mobile one has been experiencing some problems lately, I hear constant HD cluttering and a few failed boots. I figure its from the bangs here and there.

Keep this in mind, it would suck to have your lappie crap out on you when you need it the most.

Juicy: Dell has recalled the power adapters. I know you had to have noticed the overheating. This pos burned a mark into my plastic chair mat.

Dell. I had an HD crash on my Dell and the next day I had a replacement. I'd rather buy a new laptop than wait 2-3 weeks while other laptop companies ask you to ship them your PC and take a look at it. With Dell's onsite service, next business day your PC is ready. All my servers, laptops and desktops are Dell for that one reason. I can't afford to have downtime more than 2 days so Dell it is.
