IVAN - Holy Shit!

Cat 5 Hurricane. The latest forecast track is straight through Florida. The State of Florida just issued a mandatory complete evacuation of the Florida keys by Friday.

Who's sticking around for this one?

not looking good. hopefully the high pressure in the Atlantic weakens and it takes a wider turn towards the east and misses Florida all together.

Holy shit when will it end! best of luck to you KRL, and everyone else in the area. The goddesses blessings and protection on you and yours, all of you.

beergood 09-09-2004 07:34 AM

Cuba must look more like a parking lot than usual

MattO 09-09-2004 07:34 AM

Shit this is just getting ridiculous

VeriSexy 09-09-2004 07:35 AM

Wow when is this going to stop? :eek7

KRL 09-09-2004 07:35 AM

The worst thing about this track is that it puts all south florida in the North East sector of the storm which has the most powerful violent winds and heaviest rains.

We haven't even recovered from Frances yet. 600,000 people still have no phone service, 90% of the traffic signals aren't working and won't be fixed for at least 3 more weeks, 700,000 people still have no power, 20% of the cell phone towers aren't working, over 300,000 have no cable TV.

FlyingIguana 09-09-2004 07:35 AM

doesn't it lose steam going through cuba? might only be a 4 when it hits florida. would suck for a 5 to go through right now

mynetporn 09-09-2004 07:35 AM

I am in Central Fl and will be staying for this one as well. I am hoping it takes a turn towards the gulf and misses FL. I live about 15 miles northeast of where Charlie and Frances crossed paths.
Good luck to everyone and be safe.

Let George Bush become president... :1orglaugh

This shit is really getting freaking old.. I'm still with out my truck that was wrecked during Charely and they are saying at best the end of next week before I get it back.. But that was if this storm dosen't hit.

Add that with no power sofar for a total of about a week for both storms and it's starting to really tick me off.

Odie 09-09-2004 07:47 AM

no power, no phones?? but you still have an internet connection??:helpme

best of luck to all of you down there...

Damn.. the russkie is going to invade Florida.

I hear there might be another Hurricane after this one yet.. September is the busy month.

TweetyBird 09-09-2004 07:55 AM

dang, Ivan is going crazy :helpme

CE_BigB 09-09-2004 07:57 AM

I just talked with a friend in Orlando..

He says the state just cant take it...
if IVAN tracks as they have it going now.. it will kick the shit
outta Florida.

My friend is a long time resident of Florida... (20yrs) and he
said he had never seen anything like Frances.
He states.. the ground it just saturated.. puddles and mushy
ground everywhere... IVAN will blow down trees galore because root structure will not be able to hold onto wet soil...

I heard on radio that evacuation will start at 600pm tonight!??!!

Where does/can everyone go?

I'm about 1.5 hours north of Atlanta and OUR hotels were full over Labor Day weekend. Granted, some were tourists up here for vacation, but they usually rent cabins. The vast majority were from FL escaping Frances :(

Amazingly, they did have to come this far. Trees uprooted, schools closed and power is STILL out for thousands as far north as Atlanta from Frances.

Pipecrew 09-09-2004 08:06 AM

I slept in my concrete closet and when the wind made my place rattle all kinds of shit fell on my head.

Tanker 09-09-2004 08:07 AM

Damn this is going to be crazy

I dont know how florida is going to survive if this one hits dead on too

Danny_C 09-09-2004 08:13 AM

All this happened right when I moved here, so I think it's because of me. I'll move away for the right amount of money....

Peaches 09-09-2004 08:16 AM

Someone pointed out that this one isn't as big as Frances and will PROBABLY do the sort of damage Charley did - more intense but in a smaller area. Not good for those in that area but hopefully damage won't affect as many people as Frances. :(

MattO 09-09-2004 08:20 AM

I've been waiting to close on my house for weeks now, first I delayed during Charley, was going to do all the final paperwork this week, now I'm going to put it on hold again.
(I'm buying the house I've been renting)

jimmyf 09-09-2004 08:24 AM

god when will it stop... I feel for the people in FL.

Daddy Big Nuts 09-09-2004 08:35 AM

Time for another party :winkwink:

Tampa is still hurting from Frances.....places in the middle of the state are devastated......and this one could be the worst of them all.....

jwerd 09-09-2004 08:39 AM

Ah fuck, my friend lives in Florida. I hope he'll be ok. :( :( :(

After Florida it'll be going straight towards Atlanta on this current track forecast.

more intense in a smaller area ... more like Andrew .. one more bad thing to add to this storm is that the worst part is the north east side of it .. so if it tracks up the state on the west or middle .. we'll get the worst the storm can dish out .. it'll devistate the whole state

skinnay 09-09-2004 08:49 AM

how many hurricanes has it been so far?

angeleyes 09-09-2004 08:52 AM

well they name storms by the alphabet Ivan would be the 9th named storm in the Atlantic this season .. but it could potentially be the 3rd to hit florida in a little over a month!

LauraLee 09-09-2004 08:59 AM

my stomach is in knots. we are in for an even worse go around than what Frances did to us (i am speaking for fort lauderdale here). this one is going to rip right thru the upper keys and head straight for where we are at. again, i still don't have electic from the last one (been a week) .. but losing my electic is the last of my concerns.
it's damn near impossible to attempt to drive north, as the complete grid lock is bad, but the complete non-gas situation is even worse. so we could get as far as a tank of gas will get us, and then try to find a place that actually has some for sale ..
my 2 oldest brothers want to fly me up to Canada pronto, but then what leave my parents?
i was born and raised in fort lauderdale, so these hurricane seasons have naturally just become a normalcy of my life. this year has changed all of that.
i am beginning to think God has too much confidence in us Floridians.

Meta Ridley 09-09-2004 09:01 AM

Update. PUNTA GORDA is fucked again. . Fort Laud looks safer now

Another hurricane hitting Florida? Did you guys piss of God or something...

Butrflied 09-09-2004 09:10 AM

Wanna see something scary .. this was in the 6:35am update from NOAA ..
Quote:

DROPSONDE WIND REPORTS ALSO INDICATED WINDS OF NEAR 210 MPH AT AN ALTITUDE OF ABOUT 350 FEET ABOVE THE OCEAN SURFACE.
.. basically .. if you were on the 35th floor of a building around the eye of this storm at 6:30am today .. you would experience winds of 210 MPH!!

Spunky 09-09-2004 09:12 AM

Best of luck to everyone..this one looks really bad :(
