What extent do you go to avoid clicking on a affiliate link?

Myself I have a habit of hovering over hyperlink and checking if its affiliated, then I will manually type the url in and go direct.
This is wrong and I am gonna change my habit!

Who goes as far as the source code to snoop for a url :Graucho

AdultNex 07-30-2004 06:55 PM

Same here... I don't know why.

Perhaps it's because I'm partially greedy, and don't want to make other people money.

DamnGoodRatio 07-30-2004 06:56 PM

Nah, it's not taking any money out of my pocket so I click. This isn't a zero sum game.

Me either buwhahahaha :1orglaugh

wyldblyss 07-30-2004 06:57 PM

I always use the affiliate links. My thinking is these people are promoting the sites and gave me the idea to do so...so they should be rewarded. I also think that I would want people to do the same for me and it is not like it is going to cost me anything...and referral income is nice to have.

candyflip 07-30-2004 06:59 PM

Most of us rely on people clicking affiliate links, so when I come across one...I usually use it.

Whether webmasters admit it or not, this is how the majority think. I'd say 75%+ of webmasters type in urls as to not give any other webmasters referral credit. (At least when the referring webmaster is a stranger to them.)

dirtysouth 07-30-2004 07:03 PM

I usually ask someone on ICQ for a ref link code but as far as using one from someone I don't know, I type it. I also keep track of sales with the person who referred me to check the integrity of the system.

hydro 07-30-2004 07:03 PM

as long as they arent a sig whore ill click

Marcus Aurelius 07-30-2004 07:10 PM

give credit where credit is due. most people dont do this but a webmaster is usually very jaded and very competitive and would rather go around it than help somebody out.

almighty 07-30-2004 07:13 PM

wow man im sure people are now dying to cick your sigs kinda fucking stupid to not help fellow webmasters earn some extra change and also pretty stupid to admit this in the open now lets hope everyone who wants to view the stuff in your sig doesnt click it but instead do as you do :321GFY

This is my thoughts exactly, and as pointed out by SomeCreep I was of the same opinion regarding webmaster links and denying them of cut.

As we know this is how the industry goes around, and what's strange is that when I check my stats I always look to see if any webmasters have jumped onto my food chain.

I have just convinced myself as mentioned to reward the person and start using affiliated links.

warlock5 07-30-2004 07:19 PM

I manually enter in Google Adwords URLs, does that count? ;)

Who lit your fuse?

FYI I aint here to ask you to click on my sig :321GFY

Linguist 07-30-2004 07:25 PM

What usually works is, instead of using the ref code directly, write a script that accepts a parameter and based on that, redirects to the sponsor :Graucho

Most of the time people will be too lazy to close the page and re-enter the URL.

But for myself, I usually use ref code of friends, people that I like, or if its something that I wouldn't have stumbled upon by myself

Ohhh, but in some systems it does.

EviLGuY 07-30-2004 07:33 PM

I actually will look for someones affiliate link before I signup for a program if I dont have one already.

:Graucho

Richyp 07-30-2004 07:33 PM

you're meaning links to sign up to sponsor programs arent you?

like sigs etc....

Click on my sig, it is just making money for the owner and you.

And don't be so greedy...one day you just might get an email from a sponsor that the person you sign-up under wants to thank you by rewarding with a gift.

:)

Veterans Day 07-30-2004 07:35 PM

If you believe it doesnt take anything outt your pocket, I think your seriously mistaken. The money has to come from somewhere.:glugglug

emthree 07-30-2004 07:35 PM

I used to do that, but now... I'm more into giving credit where credit is due. If I've never seen something and someone is flying a sig, or sponsor that I like I make it a point to go through their link so they get credit/andor comissions.... :)
:2 cents:

Oh yeah... see sig... LMAO:1orglaugh

slapass 07-30-2004 08:30 PM

The money has to come from some where but that does not mean it comes from you. The sponsor is where the extra money goes that you are "saving". I like to use friends links as why not give a friend a cut and not give it to the sponsor?

Jace 07-30-2004 08:43 PM

when I wasn't making a lot of money, i always manually entered in the url...i guess I was jealous

now that I actually can feed myself from my endeavors, i ALWAYS go out of my way to find someone who prolly needs the money and use their referral id.......i am not that greedy or shallow anymore

pudcat 07-30-2004 09:29 PM

I never click on sigwhores referral codes though always will signup via a ref code with legit webmasters. Saves me time and they did help me out so they should be rewarded.

Alex 07-30-2004 09:30 PM

I do that same thing, i would type it in and waste time before i click on it. Its just what you are used to when you know what the extra shit on the URL means.

I'll do the same sometimes.

Living For Today 07-30-2004 11:34 PM

Why not click on it? They wont be making any money anyway most likely.

zanycash Pete 07-31-2004 12:09 AM

What's the difference to you? nothing! so what if a fellow webmaster makes a couple of extra bucks from your efforts! if they don't the program will:2 cents:

Easton 07-31-2004 12:10 AM

well when i'm interested, i'll click using the referral link

but as you can see in my sig, there isn't one... so don't be shy

:winkwink:

SykkBoy 07-31-2004 12:15 AM

If it's a marketing rep, I'm more the willing to click a link because that's how most of them get paid but just dumbass sigwhores? fuck 'em

If I ask for help and someone gives it, I'll click a referal link...

If someone's a good dude, I'll click the link, but if they are a prick, fuck 'em...

montel 07-31-2004 12:16 AM

i always give people credit if they help me out. if the person is spamming but i still want to see,i will avoid it. i sometimes do this in spam email
