Reagan had nothing to do with the fall of communism nor was he responsible for the fall of the Berlin Wall. Gorbachev was the man behind these two things, Reagan just happened to be in office at the time. Communism was failing long before Reagan came into office.

He started the mess with Saddam Hussein by selling him biological and chemical weapons in the 1980s.

Oh, and 9/11? That was his. Osama bin Laden and his fellow Afghan "freedom fighters" got their funding from Reagan.

Reagan expanded the federal government by close to 90%.

He created the homeless 'underclass' with draconian cuts in social programs and programs for the mentally ill.

He declared war on the environment, accelerating the global warming problem (remember 'trees pollute more than cars???').

He lied about people on welfare, claiming that a woman would collect her welfare checks while driving a Cadillac.

He slashed funding for alternative energy programs, just after the 1970s oil crisis, stopping those programs in their tracks and leading to the peak oil crisis we'll soon be facing.

He cut funding for medical research, including cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and heart disease.

And he exploded the nation's deficit. It took President Clinton years to balance the budget after Reagan's foolhardy spending sprees of the 1980s.

Iran contra scandal.

He created a culture in which 'greed is good', leading to the S&L failures of the 1980s and 1990s.

Reagan actually said homeless people choose to be homeless.

He was an evil bastard and good riddance. I am so sick of the sanitized 'st. ronnie' that's being broadcast by media whores 24/7.

100% correct! Just take a look at Rambo III which was filmed in Reagan times. This movie fully reflects the overall spirits of the USA for that time. "This movie is dedicated to brave Afghan people blah-blah-blah..." 9/11 was a reciprocal gift from that "brave Afghan people" to the USA. My comments were about the inherent risks in backing a certain group, and the inability to forsee what that group might become sometime in the future.

Learn some foreign policy before you post. Communism was on its way out, for sure, but it may have hung around for DECADES if Reagan didn't push it over the cliff. By doing so, he may have tripled the debt due to military spending, but he saved trillions of dollars in the long run.
