Yea.. that's why we now have two encryption standards - one for the US (which the goverment can break) and the other for the free world, the code of which has fuck all to do with the US government.

Oh yes!! :-) There sure is - and it's not without trying that the US govt has been attempting to access it - but it's kinda outside their control - but that's another story.

Many other govts would be a "little" upset if they ever thought some code was released to the US govt - they are just not trusted.

If it is the story about the same guy - who knows? *g* - it is an old story. This happened a while back - the US did not like the idea of encryption and just locked the guy up till he gave em the code. It has nothing to do with "users".

It was resolved when he agreed to give a code version for use within the US - the other version is stuck in a Swiss bank and I think the author no longer lives in US jurisdiction.
