Napster-of-Porn.com - How the hell.....

does he get away with this? When I'm doing some keyword research for adwords this site comes up for almost every keyword that I think about using.

With that many keywords I'm sure he brings in alot of traffic, so I'm sure some of his sponsors must know about this. Why the hell havent they shut it down yet? It seems like he is breaking every TOS imaginable.

Great question.....I know I wonder as well....

Chris 05-08-2004 10:35 AM

how is he breaking the rules? really didnt look into it but what i saw it looks like he is just pushing alot of j4f progs

ZeroFate 05-08-2004 10:36 AM

almost the all of the sites are free trial sites, a few might be J4Free.

evildick 05-08-2004 11:12 AM

If I were him I'd be more worried about the impending lawsuit from Napster. They've sent out C&D's for people using their name before.

yup, no p2p anywhere there

Steve 05-08-2004 11:21 AM

people have made fortunes with this advertising style

ZeroFate 05-08-2004 11:25 AM

I've thought about doing this before but just figured I'd get burned when the sponsors found out.

You're basically telling these people to sign up FOR FREE and then CANCEL your membership? How can this be good for any sponsor?

leave out the cancel part

ZeroFate 05-08-2004 11:29 AM

still seems kinda fishy to me, but he probably rakes in the cash.

Morgan 05-08-2004 11:32 AM

fucking popups... oh ya, wtf is my google popup blocker doing turned off????

zzgundamnzz 05-08-2004 11:35 AM

I hate that guy. Whenever I test my money tree dialer links I see that damn page
(Dialers don't work with Broadband so it redirects to a paysite... hmm)

ZeroFate 05-08-2004 11:38 AM

This is from another "napster of porn" site that ive come across:

Quote:

Don't even think about paying for porn on the net! What's the matter with you? Why are all you new surfers on the net running around with your credit cards and paying for porn? Don't you see that by paying for porn it ruins it for all of us who get it for free? Don't you see that the more people give in and accept paying for porn the less free porn we will see on the net?
seriously, I dont know how shit like that flies. He is advertising 30 min peek passes. (which require a credit card, and he tells the surfer that it's to prove their age!) Im guessing 30% of them dont even realize that they have to cancel their membership...
:BangBang:

ZeroFate 05-08-2004 11:40 AM

If you choose to use your credit card you can be sure that you will not be charged for your free 30 minutes and that your cc info is safe. The 6 sites below are not run by a couple of scumbags..these are multi-million dollar operations. Actually the sites below are public companies..hell you can invest in them on the new york stock exchange. Plus these are the last sites to offer us free porn..these are the good guys. The greedy guys won't even let us see their sites without dishing out 50 bucks! The point is that they are huge operations with policies and liabilities they will never mistreat your personal info.
LOL.
That is insane.

Yeah, Im surprised that he hasn't been TOS'd... I've seen people cancelled for less. He must generate alot of signups for them to look the other way.

true that, started on SEs and then everyone copied and were buying traffic eveywhere including thehun.

McSpike 05-08-2004 01:35 PM

oh boy, this is an old one. lemme tell you one thing. if it makes money to the sponsor it will stay. what makes money is GOOD. telling people they can get it free will keep them away from buying?

what's the matter with you?

do people quit somking bacuse it's represents a high health risk? are they scared of cancer to death? I be so, but assholes still smoke. just the same as assholes with hormones who will keep buying as long as there's suply. so instead of wondering you might learn something about human nature.

what he also say in his sales pitch is: "If you like the site, our recommendation is to stay as a member because it's probably the best of it's niche."

sponsor would kill him already if he didn't convert, believe me. they don't live under a rock.

what backdoor deals he has is another thing.

today you just learned a new lesson in marketing ;)

To be honest the only ilegal thing (if you want to call it that way) i see is the usage of napsters logo but again that is their problem. everything else is ok. i mean j4f advertises the same way all free all the time. hell if it makes money all the power to him.

strobi 05-08-2004 03:16 PM

Why isn't he canned? Because his traffic makes the program owners more money than they pay the guy. So he's probably good to go...

ZeroFate 05-08-2004 04:01 PM

He HAS to be bringing in good money for the sponsors if they put up with this. I'm half tempted to try it myself and see if I get canned.

How ironic. Napster - the post child for the fuck copyrights movement - threatening to sue people for using thier trademarks. Amazing.

You should see all the people Kazaa has been threatening to sue lately.

It's not him, right?

mryellow 05-08-2004 11:16 PM

He's not telling anyone to cancel.... Look at the site again.

I do not see ANY TOS being broken.

The site promotes free sites and free trials.

Quote:

1) At the bottom of this page will be a large selection of adult
sites that offer free passwords. Click on the site that appeals to
you and you will then be directed to the sites backdoor free
access free page.

2) Find the FREE JOIN or FREE ACCESS links and click in to
proceed to the sites free join form.

3) Fill out the required information. Personal verification is
required. A credit card number may be asked, but it will not be
processed. By law you must consent to any credit card
transaction, so be rest assured that it will not be
processed. "Free" means "Free" not anything else.

4) Once you have completed and submitted the required
information you will automatically be directed to the login page of
the adult site you joined for FREE access. It's that easy!
You know what that is? Awesome marketing done by someone
that understands their job.

If you aren't very good at marketing then don't blame this guy.
He's made a killing with that site over the last year or 2.

If he was doing what you think and telling them to cancel that
would be another thing. However he is not. You just fell for his
marketing. Good eh?

-Ben

stev0 05-08-2004 11:20 PM

he doesnt tell the surfer to cancel, or even suggest it.... so i don't see what the problem is except for that blatant copyright violation in the title.

Those popups are a pain in the ass too, i hate that shit.

mryellow 05-08-2004 11:27 PM

It's this simple....

He's *not* telling surfers how to get free porn.

He's telling surfers how to signup at paysites.

The very fact that you thought he was telling them how to get
free porn proves that his marketing works very well.

If the chargeback level is low and the trial to member conversion
ratio decent then everyone is very happy.

WebPower?

ZeroFate 05-08-2004 11:50 PM

read my quotes above!

maybe that was the wrong link to point to, but do tell me how the hundreds of sites that use this technique are still running?

Like I said, read the quotes...its totally ridiculous how they get away with their wording.

You know what? Even reading that it is total BS. He is breaking the TOS technically...and god knows that the guy who only brings in 500 a month in signups would get dumped by the sponsor.

"2) Find the FREE JOIN or FREE ACCESS links and click in to

FREE FREE FREE! Maybe a free trial.

"1) At the bottom of this page will be a large selection of adult

"backdoor access free page." The sponsors probably love the accidental rebills that this guy brings in! Honestly most people wont go bitching to their credit card company...they'll just simply live with losing $39 and cancel. A lot of people don't like to explain how they were duped into signing up for a porn site.

"3) Fill out the required information. Personal verification is

That right there is the BIGGEST one! "Oh, I don't have to pay! Only prove my age? Great! Bam, rebill. "oops"

"4) Once you have completed and submitted the required
information you will automatically be directed to the login page of
the adult site you joined for FREE access. It's that easy!"

They could atleast say TRIAL somewhere in there. Its a free trial, not "free access." Maybe I'm being picky, but its late and Im cranky and defensive.
:thumbsup

A friend of mine that I actually coached on AdWords and Overture owns a few of these "napster of porn" type sites, and I gotta say, rule breaking doesn't apply when you are pulling in nearly six figures a month. His overhead also adds up, so don't just think hes making bank without spending a lot of it. But when it comes down to it, it's 100% worth the time, cash, effort, and problems.

So a big :thumbsup to him and all the other guys reaping the benefits of being creative.
