FUCK CBS and the Super Bowl.
With all the censorship that CBS is doing these days... No one should support this type of bullshit and not watch the super bowl today and stop watching CBS altogether until they change their policy. :thumbsup
During this year's Super Bowl, you'll see ads sponsored by beer companies, tobacco companies, and the Bush White House. But you won't see the winning ad in MoveOn.org Voter Fund's Bush in 30 Seconds ad contest. CBS refuses to air it. Meanwhile, the White House and Congressional Republicans are on the verge of signing into law a deal which Senator John McCain (R-AZ) says is custom-tailored for CBS and Fox, allowing the two networks to grow much bigger. CBS lobbied hard for this rule change; MoveOn.org members across the country lobbied against it; and now the MoveOn.org ad has been rejected while the White House ad will be played. It looks an awful lot like CBS is playing politics with the right to free speech. Of course, this is bigger than just the MoveOn.org Voter Fund. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) submitted an ad that was also rejected. We need to let CBS know that this practice of arbitrarily turning down ads that may be "controversial" ? especially if they're controversial simply because they take on the President ? just isn't right. |
I was just at Publix supermarket and I can't believe they now have white plastic sheets to cover the front of Cosmopolitan and Glamour Magazines in the checkout lanes.

CBS is a company. They can do whatever the fuck they want. They don't want to air a given commercial, it's their right. Start your own company and you can do the same.

Do they not apply? Of course they do, I've seen them walk in, but I never see them serve drinks or dance. At my old job, how come MEN never were hired to be a "figure finisher" NEVER. Not once in 10 years have I ever seen a guy "figure finisher" It's because guys have no patience for that shit. Girls can sit there all day and dress up a puppet, and add little shit like accessories to it. But not a guy, and therefore guys never got that job, even though several of my friends asked for the position. Take your naive view on the business world and go home. |

And you're trying to tell me that Company B has the right to force Company A to air their commercials? You don't think that's going against Free Speech? I'm going to go run an ad on Nickelodeon for Coors. Let's see how well that goes over. |

When the media starts deciding what commercials to air and what not to air it becomes censorship (as long as its not offensive). There is no reason for them not to air that commercial other than political pressure from the right wing. |

Last time I checked the Superbowl is a entertainment event not a politcal or news commentary, they can do whatever they want.
How come whenever some fringe group doesnt get its way they are always the down trodden? |

Can't wait to see the ads that did make it. Don't care about the game. Already saw the Moveon.org ad.
CBS gets to decide what they show. To make them show the moveon.org ad would be like me being forced to display a particular banner on my site. I decide those things. |
As a company, they are in business to make money by selling ads... why censor an ad that will pay? Sorry, should be first come first served.... The ads were NOT in poor taste, not illegal, not offensive...
So, why should a company not take someone's money? Someone posted that the super bowl is entertainment, not political...... everything is political these days... |

I'll go run a huge anti-abortion campaign on Lifetime, Oxygen, and MTV. When all 3 of those companies decline my campaign, will you be crying for me too? After all, it IS political. |

I may not agree with what you are saying... but I agree you have the right to say it and be heard. |

I have watched the ad and personally I think it is no big deal at all, but forcing companies to the whims of any fringe group is absurd. So the KKK should be able to run a burning cross also if they can afford it since it is thier politcal stance right? |

I'm also going to help Bill O'Reilly with his campaign against Jay-Z. We will be airing these commercials on BET and full page ads in all of the highly "black" magazines. |

No, No, No, I am sure that there are no open spots for the superbowl ads, you are saying that someone should be bumped for your politcal groups ad. Do you know all the backstory on this? I am sure that these ad spaces are booked well in advance, did they prepay the full price for the ad and it got denied? Or did they try to go in late in the game to get a spot, probably wanted special considerations on price since they are a "political organization" and are now going for the extra bit of exposure that will come from being "censored" by the big bad corporate giant. |

Ok, here's a quick breakdown that may put it into a situation that some of our friends here may understand. Let's just say for a minute that I run SleazyDream. I have this guy submitting galleries to me, they really suck. Over-exposed content, a sponsor I don't like, too many ads... the whole works. I decline him every week for months on end. This little prick is bound and determined to get listed on my site. So he buys some spots, right? Now since it's my site, I get to approve them first. This little fucker decides to be a smart ass and at the bottom of every gallery he writes "SleazyDream eats too many Big Macs!" He paid. Am I obligated to approve the gallery? The gallery looks fine, no rules are being broken, but I'm not real happy with the text at the bottom. After all, it is money... -- When I worked for Epic Cash we wanted to buy banner spots here at GFY. Lensman wouldn't sell them to us. Was he in the wrong? Money was money, we were ready to fork it out. |

I don't want to start any shit but WTF are you thinking? They should be allowed to the commercials they want. Why is it because they chose not to air something it's suddenly a right winged conspiracy? I want to watch the game, see Britney dance around in her Pepsi commercial and have a few beers. Maybe in order to be fair you could place ads on your site, for those sponsors that got rejected. Oh and do you have the list of all the ads that were rejected? Were they all rejected because of the conspiracy? Is it possible that maybe some of them just sucked or they felt just didn't fit in with programming. If you?re such a whore that you will take any money from advertiser?s maybe you should talk to sexed, I'm sure he wouldn't mind buying some ads for his next site on your site? What the hell it's just money as you said. |

Lol re-read the part where it says they can do whatever they want, they are not required to present both sides of anything. Just as you can feel free to watch something else. Here is a even better idea for those that are feeling Activist level today, take note of every sponsor that advertises during the superbowl and on CBS tonight. Organize writing campaigns to those sponsors that you are going to boycott thier products for advertising on CBS since they "Censor" ads. This should keep you busy for awhile. A true definition of censorship would be that thier is no place to get your message out. That no channels would accept thier ad. Just because you cant get on during a certain show isnt censorship. Did they ask if they could run it on any other time frame? Or once again is this just an extra way to squeeze some additional news time for themselves? Fucking everyone cries when they cant get thier way... well do something about it by meaningfully contacting those that can make a change, the sponsors themselves, as long as they keep paying the ad fees CBS could give a fuck what you think... |
