A Short Announcement

Let it be known that as of this date and time 2:49 AM EST on December 26, 2003 that I have perfected an appliance that will deliver HDTV resoloution over standard broadband connections.

There is no prior art and no technology as the hardware and software did not exist until recently.

A full 2 hour movie would take up exactly 1.08 gigs of storage.

That means I can burn 4 two hour movies onto a standard cd-rom at greater than HDTV resoloution.

How do I know it's greatter than?

My Mitsubishi Diamond Series is a Model HD1080 that came out some years back when they were very expensive, top end resoloution is 1156 something.... can do just a tad better than my Mitsu can display.

I want to thank the man that supported me all along, I gave up over a thousand times and have spent three years in development.

This isn't a pipe dream, it's ready to demo at anytime.

Please note that this is not an offer of sale nor any invitation to sell anyone anything.

A very special thank you to everyone at GFY for putting up with me for so long... I paid my dues to get here.

And to the people who stuck with my radio station while others jumped ship, well you are all automatically getting the use of the system for free, so that's the fine people over at XBiz, XPays,D-Money Show and KB. To Ken at Hustler and probably a couple others I have missed.

But most of all... Cybererotica.. and Mr. Levi.. who stuck by me when I was ready to throw in the towel and get off the net for good.

Wishing you all... the merriest of holidays ever.

Congratulations, if you're for real, I have no idea really. So :thumbsup

dokk 12-26-2003 01:29 AM

I'm for real, and I have the stitches in my hand to prove it. I also especially would like to thank my wife, who like back when I started the radio thing, thought I was nuts ... back then ..

And even more nuts.. hell I broke down completely and now the reason can be known as the truth. I failed a thousand times.

I won't even say I never gave up hope because I did that many times too. We sacrificed everything for the project save for what my wife and daughter needed. For me, a six pack of diet coke and a pack of winston lights, a burger and I am aok. I don't even like to drive... so I don't very much. ;-)

I wear torn jeans and don't own a suit. I have two pairs of sneakers, one is pretty nice the others are way fucked up and most of the t shirts I have come from conventions.

Have paid my dues.... a hundred times over.

Now.. I think at this moment.. I am the happiest man on the planet... I didn't even get to eat my xmas dinner, it was sitting in the chair beside me and I had a live show I did tonight for ANS for the folks that were alone this holiday season.. we all had a great time.

And to Ompi... who pulled me from the pit of hell... I never forgot about you.. or how much I love and care for you.

To Lee Noga... and to a certain attorney who was sure I was nuts too.. thank you all.. for without the bizarre chain of events that led to this.. it never would have happened.

And lastly.. to my daughter Leanne.. sweetheart, you will never have to worry about anything again.... your daddy's got you covered. ;-))

And also to Lens... and the whole crew here... who could have banned me any time...

I thank you all.. with all of my heart.

Do you mean DVD-R rather than CD-R? 4 x 2 hour movies = 4.32 gigs...

Zebra 12-26-2003 01:39 AM

Sounds very cool Dokk! :thumbsup
Hope this is your winning lottery ticket!
You going to be in Vegas? Been far too long!

WiredGuy 12-26-2003 01:40 AM

Congrats Dokk! Wishing u the best this holiday season.

dokk 12-26-2003 01:46 AM

Thanks you guys and it's 1.08 gigs of storage at full HDTV resoloution. A DVD Rom, whether it's + or - holds about 4.75 gigs of storage. The CD's you get at the store are about 6.75 that's why those things that claim they can copy cd's can't get the whole thig on ond disc.

So I was just ball parking it, I use a multi drive that does both modes and I use both so I forget exactly what disc I'm shoving in at the time, whether it's dvd or cd... it doesn't make any difference.

A standard CDRom is 750 to 800mb so it won't do top resoloution but you could burn very close to 2 hours at 1080 rez. That's cutting it back a notch to 768kb/sec.

mule 12-26-2003 01:50 AM

Congrats dokk :thumbsup
And I hope you remember all of us who paypal'd you when things were tough
*grin*
Rokk on!

I definitely will not be in Las Vegas or anyplace else but here at home for a while.. I already have one area stacked to the ceiling with boxes and mobos.. and boxes to build.. with no help.. so I have to take care of a few people and then yes I'll be out making the rounds and having a great time with you guys once again.

;-)))

gleem 12-26-2003 01:51 AM

I have fromt he sounds of it the same 65" mitsubishi TV, and I have yet to have seem what full HDTV res looks like, no DVD's have it from what I have seen.

So can I have a demo :Graucho

And BTW, if you really did it, I assume you have people to shop your software around, easily worth millions (let me know if you need help) :thumbsup

asuna 12-26-2003 01:58 AM

Congrats, and hope i'll see you on wired.com!

I'm going to give you an appliance for free.

dokk

basschick 12-26-2003 02:01 AM

wow, congratulations! sounds like you went through hell and back doing this, but if it has a happy ending, that's the important thing :-)

Vitasoy 12-26-2003 02:02 AM

My wife and daughter and I were standing around watching it and she said what are you going to do now?

I said I wasn't sure other than wear fingerless leather gloves all the time that I'm building.

And as for the DVD whether it's plus or minus or anything else really doesn't matter at all. Only that it exists and it's real.

It's 1.08gigs for a 2 hour movie at top resoloution.

You guys can do all the rest of the math yourself, I suck at it honestly.

I just turned 47.. I am fully aware of my time left on the planet and am definitely going to die happy knowing that I made a real difference in the world.

I'm going to need a lot of help I'm sure. ;-)))))))

And JStyles.. who always was so good to me.. anything for you.. is aok.

It's going to take a week or so for my hand to heal up then it's back to work but in the mean time.. what am I going to do?

Just be happy. ;-))))

- Jesus Christ - 12-26-2003 02:10 AM

Do you eat acid?

gleem 12-26-2003 02:13 AM

hell I was just thinking Dokk you might get paid mega bucks from movie studios to kill the projects, this would be a big step towards making DVD swapping as big as MP3 swapping was/is.

if you could fit full hi def res on 1.2 gigs, sure a low res would be under 50 megs. Dangerous stuff my friend, I hope you got some serious firewalls up so the hackers hired by the MPA and other anti piracy places don't hack ya.:Graucho

dokk 12-26-2003 02:14 AM

Oh and I almost forgot.. the radio shows now have full dolby 5.1 capability.

I'm not even going to go into any technical details, i worked for free like a dog on the ms beta team and I know Enterprise 2003 server only, I don't know anything about SBS or any other version. So don't ask me any questions lol. ;-)))

^R3K^ 12-26-2003 02:14 AM

Congrats Dokk - Can't wait to hear about it on tech-tv :thumbsup

BluMedia 12-26-2003 02:16 AM

Sounds awesome, Congratulations and good luck. :thumbsup

Ya know, Dokk...I always knew you were the real deal...and a creative guy....

Much love and fortune to you and your future.

You've certainly played an important role in my life.

Nathan 12-26-2003 02:46 AM

Hey dokk,

first of all congratulations.. sounds awesome...

Now, if you can, I have a few technical questions so I fully understand what you did :)

First of all, if I fully understand, you invented a new video/audio codec, right?

It is hardware only? What kind of hardware do you need to encode/decode in realtime?

Any idea how long it might take till software only versions would be possible?

1.08 gigs for 2 hours is a _HUGE_ step up from DivX/XviD. We are talking roughly 157kb per second. Which really is TINY, especially for HDTV-resolution and quality. I would LOVE to see a sample of this :)

Did you find a name yet? :)

Oh, and do you have your patent number handy? :) Would love to read it...

Chris 12-26-2003 02:47 AM

Does anyone hate dokk? :glugglug

MikeB 12-26-2003 02:53 AM

Merry Christmas DoKK, and congratulations on your accomplishment. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Way to go!

I was about to post smth like this.. enlighten us you mighty videogod...

DaLord 12-26-2003 03:27 AM

dokk,

You don't know me but I know you. Not from recent events but from your help at different sponsors years and years ago.
I learned so much from your ideas years ago and I'm very very happy to see you here with a positive thread.

Don't ever leave the business because you are one of the only ol'timers I respect beyond possible.

Nathan 12-26-2003 03:29 AM

Oh,

and doesn't this VERY much fall under Acacia's DMT patent?

And Dokk, I just realized, you did not mention anything about actual quality, so whats the quality? I mean, I can compress HDTV resolution video to less than 1.08 but the quality would suck quite a lot in DivX or Xvid :)

So do you have a screenshot or something of a still image of this?

Also, if you say resolution is higher than your HDTV can display... whats the actual SOURCE of your video you test with? I know of no movie in DVD or similar that is bigger than HDTV or any camera that creates video at higher resolutions?
