Nice, the checkerboard approach in Hong Kong. It's closed now but my dad used to fly in on that approach alot and said it was pretty hairy from a passenger view.

Actually you are very wrong........ this is the normal approach procedure at Punta Cana or Puerto Plata, can't remember.
Rate of descend is 1700 ft/min and touch down is about 50 feet after last marker.

btw the airport is Princess Juliana in St. Maarten

Photoshopped........ the plain in the back is PSA who hit a little Cessna who got lost around the airport. The Cessna pilot died and all pasengers on the PSA (who was on approach) also died along with a few people on the ground. I also got the cockpit tapes i can post onhere (the original ones) but i don't think you want that :-)

Whats with the bare ass

It is neither one of those ... I flew into both in the past 2 years, and can tell you that it is not either one. If I remember correctly Puerto Plata runway is near the water (very fucking near ... too near for comfort), and it is short as hell, but there is no beach at the end of it.
I think St. Maarten is correct.

The landing gear is down, but the wheel assembly tilts backwards... I presume it's to help soften the landing, or perhaps keep traction going on takeoff.

Awesome pic, but I want to know why no one is holding their ears? The noise at that distance must be incredible.

High Bypass fans at idle thrust really are not all that loud.

What happened here? You can see wheel smoke and it looks like his nose is up so he's actually attempting to land at this angle? WTF?

that's at the old Hong Kong airport. On that approach the planes have to make a hard right bank and then immediatly touch down. Lots of crosswind action there.

Planes would often land cocked into the wind then jab full rudder to straighten out when the tires touched.

Shok is an airline/airplane trivia junky - in case you didn't already notice. :winkwink: And you have to change rooms with him at the Tropicana if your room faces the airport and his faces the mountains. :mad:

But his compass abilities come in handy. :)
