Why do "United States" is listed on top of countries listed alphabetically?
 

Every time I go thru an online form, I keep noticing that "United States" is always listed on top of countries sorted alphabetically. Why is that?

Because a majority of webmasters are from the U.S. and it makes it easier for U.S. webmasters to find their country instead of having to scroll all the way to the bottom. :)

Americans don't know their A,B,Cs and need to be on top of an alphabetical country list or they wouldn't be able to find their country in a list of countries.

Funny, I bought something online this week and the US was at the bottom and the default country was started with an A. I thought, how fucked up is that?

For the same reason Portugal was placed in the center on most maps made through the 1400's- most select text list makers are from the USofA.

I'm pretty sure Africa isn't a country, but basically I think it's kinda logical to have them in alphabetical order. You could always press "U" and get down to the countries starting with u. :):2 cents:

The answer is simple: money. People in the United State buy the most porn, electronics, or whatever is being sold. It makes since to make the shopping experience as easy as possible for you core market.

If studies show that the number 7 is the most used on a phone, should they rearrange the buttons so 7 is the first, and 5 maybe second etc?

If there were over 250 numbers that needed to be listed... sure.

If pressing 7 made the phone company thousands of times as much money as the other 9 digits combined, I would imagine 7 would be the first number listed.
