Netbook or tablet?

If you would pick between these two, what you will take?It seems having one of these two is convenient to have during travel like when you are in bus.Which of these two devices have longer battery life?I used too have hp netbook but it exploded and i paid it like 600$ which is why i hesitate to buy new one but maybe tablet would be better solution.

but you can't do a lot of REAL webmaster work on a tablet. I wouldn't use either while traveling. I'd buy a 14" or 15.4" cheap but workable laptop. Yes you can do a lot more with today's tablets but unless you spend a grand or more on one you won't be able to run your websites with one.

I use my tablet all day long but it's to check stats and emails while I'm away from my desk

Scott McD 07-16-2014 09:09 AM

In my experience, Netbooks have been pretty shitty...

Theo 07-16-2014 09:10 AM

Tablet, i never liked notebooks, you may as well carry a small macbook air

I do not,i used netbook for 6 weeks for regular work, and i didn't had need to change it till it exploded.
Dont know what to take next, hence this thread.

Yeah maybe that would be a solution,or maybe a 13 inches laptop, should fit to bus.I actually wish how i bought such laptop instead that exploding netbook.

Rochard 07-16-2014 09:22 AM

I have a Microsoft Surface. It's the greatest thing ever. It's a large tablet or a small laptop.

I know everyone hates Windows 8, but you understand it when you have a Surface - I can instantly flip from tablet to PC. I use it to read books or surf FB and news here at home, listen to music while I work in the garage or shower, watch movies on the plane, and it's a full PC for on the road.

SBJ 07-16-2014 09:24 AM

a quick search at tiger direct and I found THIS ONE for $369 Lenovo S415 Touch AMD E1 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 14.0" Notebook Windows 8.1 64-bit.

danevans 07-16-2014 09:26 AM

get a tablet, and get something like this along with it
http://www.dx.com/p/detachable-59-ke...9#.U8aplpXlpjE

I have a nexus7 and (as a tablet) I love it, not sure if it would be enough as a laptop replacement though.. maybe go for a galaxy tab 10, larger screen..

wait when you say "travel" I thought you meant vacation, but do you just mean traveling to work in a bus?

For a vacation I'd never leave home without some sort of laptop but on a bus to work I'd much rather use a android tablet.

seeandsee 07-16-2014 10:51 AM

go with fablet! you will have gprs access and make calls for price of tablet!

mineistaken 07-16-2014 10:56 AM

Just netbook. Or even better 13 inch ultrabook.
Tablets are joke, for play only. And maybe emails.

Ah well for traveling i think most important thing would be duration of battery, tho dont know how win at that department.

shake 07-16-2014 11:09 AM

I bring my Macbook air, but there are some great Windows ultrabooks now too if you prefer windows. For serious work you need a real keyboard.

mineistaken 07-16-2014 11:11 AM

Tablet should be considered only if you do not have smartphone, otherwise it is not practical to have 2 identical devices, just one being with bigger screen.

CPA-Rush 07-16-2014 11:11 AM

if u are travelling ... get tablet much better than smartphone in my opinion

netbook's r great, i browse gfy with hp netbook running on one of debian distros

exactly. netbook or ultrabook all the way.

forget about touch screens..it will f up your brain and senses ;-)

SmutGiant 07-16-2014 02:20 PM

PC for production, tablet for consumption.

candyflip 07-16-2014 02:22 PM

I just grabbed a 2 year old 11'' Macbook Air off of Craigslist for $300. Didn't want or need it, but couldn't pass it up at that price.

Kick ass little machine for what I paid for it. Don't think I'd pay close to $1000 for it.

WDF 07-16-2014 02:33 PM

It depends on what type of work you intend to do with it.

My choice would be a tablet over a notebook.

I use a tablet to remote into several PCs here when I am not at my desk. Server control, email, scheduling, etc.

The tablet does not need to be expensive and can be android.

If you want to give it a try buy a cheap 1 from a site like Tmart.com and see if it suits your needs. A $40 to $60 tablet should be an good indication if this is for you or not. If it does not meet your needs you spend very little and it makes a great give away item or gift.

fuzebox 07-16-2014 02:45 PM

I'm migrating to a galaxy 10.1 tablet for short trips. With bluetooth mouse and keyboard it's decent for most the work I do while travelling.

Netbooks are poised to make a comeback this holiday season.

Seth Manson 07-16-2014 03:59 PM

I bought a Dell XPS 15 and have never been happier. And yes I have owned tablets and macbooks.

Stay away from Chromebook, lots of restrictions

That was going to be my next purchase. I have a couple of XPS 13's I travel with, but moving forward I am using a tablet for short trips and an XPS 15 for longer trips.

Chosen 07-16-2014 11:10 PM

I would prefer netbook, however battery life usually longer on tablets.

mchol 07-16-2014 11:11 PM

None of them!

SomeCreep 07-17-2014 12:26 AM

iPad.....

MPGdevil 07-17-2014 01:11 AM

Surface Pro 3, probably the best tabtop or laplet you can get.

AmeliaG 07-17-2014 03:23 AM

I have an iPad for downtime or reading magazines. I'm on level 400 and something in Candy Crush and it's great for that. it is not even great for sending email, much less more technical productivity though.

I'm thinking about getting a Surface 3. Interesting to read folks' opinions on it I this thread.

What he said... :2 cents:

EngineCash 07-17-2014 04:35 AM

Hahah, netbook, such a stupid stuff... Aldo, tablets aren't so practical, if you have a good smartphone I think you don't need tablet also... :)

:thumbsup

mchol 07-17-2014 11:41 AM

I like using Dell mostly

crockett 07-17-2014 12:33 PM

Tablets are awesome for traveling or just lounging around and having something you can hold easily. Laptop if you need something mobile to also work with.
