Meet hip hops first Billionaire

Dr. Dre Speaks On Becoming Hip Hop?s First Billionaire
:thumbsup:thumbsup

(AllHipHop News) ?They need to update the Forbes list,? says Tyrese.

The singer/actor suggests the financial publication modify its list of richest people in Hip Hop, because news broke yesterday that Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are selling their Beats Electronics company to Apple for $3.2 billion. The sale is set to make Dre Hip Hop?s first billionaire.

Dre and Tyrese happened to be together when the world found out about the Beats/Apple deal, and Tyrese decided to share the moment via video on his Instagram page.

In one vid Dre can be heard saying, ?The first billionaire in Hip Hop. Right here from the motherf**king West Coast.?

UPDATE: The original posts on Tyrese?s Instagram page have been deleted, but the video has since been uploaded to YouTube. Watch it below.

Short by 200 million ;)

dyna mo 05-13-2014 01:33 PM

what's dre's cut of beats these days? I seem to recall iovine holds the lion's share. I'm also pretty surprised apple is buying such a label-driven product, as opposed to quality driven.

Yea, I'm surprised they aren't marketing their own.

Ya they got royally fucked on the original beats deal, although it serves them right for the obscene prices they used to charge for their cables. Snake oil salesmen.

seeandsee 05-13-2014 02:03 PM

dr deserves this!

i like lots of his songs!

Penny24Seven 05-13-2014 02:17 PM

he is still 200 million short, they said give or take 50 million so he still has a way to go, better not quit his day job lol

I wonder what % of the audio[phile] business is snake oil? A lot I bet. Monster played a big part of that and certainly capitalized on it. Prolly still do, but I'd bet maybe <1% of listeners can discern the difference between good solid gear and esoteric audiophile level quality and the prices they ask.

mineistaken 05-13-2014 02:27 PM

Sounds more like the first (or not) billionaire in headphones industry.

it's sarcasm! Any surprise would prolly be re: such a blatant acquistion of a low quality, label/brand driven product line. There's more to it than just the headsets I believe though, I think I recall reading there's perceived value in Beats' new streaming service.

qwe 05-13-2014 02:32 PM

man seems like they're having fun celebrating, congrats

dyna mo 05-13-2014 02:34 PM

and re: the OP, I hope the #s crunch in Dre's favor! If I had my druther's I'druther he be first than jay z or the other one.

bingo. That's why eh. Apple can get more than even Beats can out of the product. perhaps the link will be the streaming service or something, just guessing out of my ass about that.

However - is it possible to charge even more when they are so overpriced already?

ouch!

On Thursday night, Apple announced its intentions to buy Dr. Dre's Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion, which would be Apple's biggest acquisition ever. The deal will make Dr. Dre a lot of money, though he won't become, as many have theorized, hip-hop's first billionaire.

Of course, considering the deal involved Apple (one of the biggest names in personal computing), Beats (one of the biggest names in headphones) and $3.2 billion (well, that's just a lot of money), a lot of people took notice and started to wonder why Apple would spend so much money on headphones. Well, it turns out there's probably a fairly simple explanation, and it doesn't make Apple look too good.

Apple is completely out of ideas and unable to innovate.

Well, that seems to be the most likely explanation at least, considering every other explanation doesn't really make sense. A lot of theories have already been circulating, including the ideas that Apple wants to add a high-profit margin device to its repertoire, that Apple just wants to be cool again, that Apple wanted to acqui-hire Jimmy Iovine, Beats' co-founder with many connections in the industry.

These all have some weight behind them, but for a $3.2 billion price tag, none of them are really reconcilable considering what Apple would be getting. Apple is pretty cool and just as recognizable of a brand as Beats, and Apple could probably find other ways to work with Iovine, or just find someone else like him, for a lot less money.

"We are struggling to see the rationale behind this move," Gene Munster, an analyst with the firm Piper Jaffray, wrote in a note to investors.

huh???? If that's not a scathing article on the purchase, I don't know what would be.

Rochard 05-13-2014 03:05 PM

It's funny how headphones started big, become much smaller, and went back to big.

Kids look like idiots with these huge fucking honking things. And they pay out the ass for them.

kane 05-13-2014 03:26 PM

I was reading about this yesterday. HTC is the one that looks the worst in this deal. They paid $300 million for 50% of Beats a few years ago so they could put it on their phones. They sold their share back to Beats recently for $250 million then Beats sells to Apple for this huge amount.

I think it was Forbes that was bashing Apple over this deal saying they were paying a huge price to buy some overpriced headphones that don't really help their product that much.

Good money for Dre though...

Chosen 05-13-2014 03:29 PM

Well, okay then...

It is odd how those things change. For years and years if a girl had a big ass she was considered a fat ass. Now if she has a big ass she is considered hot.

SIK 05-13-2014 03:43 PM

is the demand for headphones srsly that big to make this "beats" thing so profitable?

fucking insane

They have a couple of things. They launched a streaming music service recently and they also license their sound system to devices like phones, laptops, tablets etc. But, my understanding is that headphones are their main business.

The funny thing is that my Plantronics headset I use on my computer that I paid $70 for has better specs than their $200 headphones.

Yup. And coming from Gene Munster it certainly has merit.

Dre likes the cock. TMZ is reporting that he is hooking up with michael sam. :pimp

Y'all do know this is just a rumour, right?

I don't believe Apple would buy them. Unless it was for the executive team. They certainly wouldn't want the shitty headphones, they certainly wouldn't want the failed music streaming service.

But I don't believe it happened.
