    How long do you in general take off for vacation?

    It's that day of the year again and tomorrow im flying out to asia. Will be back in the office the 2nd of June.

    So thats like 3 weeks off. Now everybody outside of Europe I speak to thinks I take ridiculously long vacations. Might be so but it is often also the only days off I take in a year.

    So do you consider 3 weeks long or....?

                  3 weeks is a good vacation length, whenever I do 2 it never seems like quite enough. IMO it depends on how you approach it - just sitting on a beach with beer in hand, or traveling around constantly doing things.

                  For me the biggest downside regardless of length, is that I'm never 100% off the clock. Always gotta check in & make sure things are running smoothly, touch base with people, etc. Would love a holiday where I could truly just check the fuck out.

                          I can not just go to an island and do nothing, we always travel around most of the time and only the last few days we do some bounty island before we head back.

                          As for being off the clock, I am "allowed" to bring the ipad and that's it. No laptop or something or I would be working whenever I find a wifi :D

                                      3 weeks is fine. 2 is my average, but sometimes it either feels too long, or too short.

                                      So i think it just depends on the location and current state of mind to be honest...

                                                  I just did 2 weeks in China, besides being amazing, it took a week to get back into a sleep schedule coming back, going there was easy.

                                                  I've been to Japan, Philippines, Guam, Korea and Singapore
                                                  Carbon is not the problem, it makes up 0.041% of our atmosphere , 95% of that is from Volcanos and decomposing plants and stuff. So people in the US are responsible for 13% of the carbon in the atmosphere which 95% is not from Humans, like cars and trucks and stuff and they want to spend trillions to fix it while Solar Panel plants are powered by coal plants

                                                                      going on vacation for less than a month is just a crime...when you fly like 10-12 hours just to get there and the first 2 weeks passes in a flash, then you need the 2 more weeks comfort zone to really relax...

                                                                      a true vacation is when you are ready to go back the next day and you are not depressed and shit because you have to return...this takes time...

                                                                          This winter I did a road trip down thru Mexico because I wanted to see certain stuff on the way to my destination (redwoods, Big Sur, etc). It was scenic but there was some hard fucking driving especially South of the Border, so even though I was down there a month it was always in the back of my head I'd have to do that bitchass drive again on the return trip. Impossible to totally relax, if I ever did that again the vacation would have to be like 3 months to make the drive worthwhile.

                                                                                  Probably depends on what you do during your vacation too. Since we travel around a lot it's probably less totally relaxing than just laying on a beach somewhere.

                                                                                          Out of the places I went to in Asia I liked Cambodia best becuase of it's pureness, so thanks for the mention of Myanmar.

                                                                                                          The country got a cruel past not even that long ago. Went to the Tuol Sleng museum and just walking around there is unreal when you realise what happenend in that country.

                                                                                                          The people however were amazing. My gf and I like to go out and eat at the local places and we met a teacher who we chatted with and had the most amazing stories but was still so positive in life.

                                                                                                                                          I haven't taken more than 6 days off in a row in the last 5 years or so. It's not as bad as it sounds, i tend to take shorter trips in general 4-5 days mostly over weekends. It just works out better with my gf's schedule that way.

                                                                                                                                          I don't have anything against taking more time off it just hasn't come up for a while. When i finally get going on some vacationing in europe that will change of course.

Don't want to be gone too long, but don't want to work for too long and get burned out. Further away trips I will go for longer but those don't happen as often

                                                                                                                                                                                  .....locked up in the horse-stable....
                                                                                                                                                                                  .....pissing and taking a shit in a bucket...
                                                                                                                                                                                  .....two meals a day...

                                                                                                                                                                                  after one day i really want to go back to work...
                                                                                                                                                                                  but hey... the girl wants some time for herself

I saw something on TV awhile back where an HR VP said employees should avoid taking long vacations (more than 2 weeks) because companies will try to find someone else to fill your duties while you're away. If you're away too long, they may find they really don't need you and eliminate your job.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      How much do you relax after 1 week? Even if not fully, maybe 2 not fully is better than 1 fully relaxed?
                                                                                                                                                                                                      Lets say it takes you 2 weeks to 100% relax and 1 week makes you relax up to 90% (meaning not fully, but pretty good). Maybe 2 times * 90% relaxation is better than 1 time of 100% and then no second time.
                                                                                                                                                                                                      2 times 90% is better than 1 time 100% and 1 time 0%.
