It was a tongue in cheek comment.

Gfy is serious bidness re: philip seymour hoffman.

Sly 02-02-2014 11:57 AM

That's too bad. I just read the other day that he was going to be directing a Jake G/Amy Adams movie.

I enjoyed his acting.

Elli 02-02-2014 12:00 PM

Oh no. I really wanted GFY to be wrong on this one.

One of the great actors of our time...heroin OD is a sad way to die at 46 (plus he left behind three children). :(

XSAXS 02-02-2014 12:29 PM

Hoffman introduced me to the term "Sharted" in the movie Along Came Polly.

that was some crafty shit! watched it a couple weeks ago

crockett 02-02-2014 12:52 PM

25th hour was a very good movie that he was in, I just watched a movie on Netflix he was in with Matt Damon called the talented Mr Ripley. It was a pretty decent flic but he always seemed to play the socially awkward characters.

kane 02-02-2014 01:06 PM

I always enjoyed his work. He was very talented. And he was still so young. Drugs are just too much for some people.

As others have mentioned in this thread, his performance in Owning Mahoney is amazing.

Oddly enough one of my favorite memories of him doesn't even involve him. It was an interview with Serena Williams at the Golden Globes (I think, but it may have been the Oscars) one year when Hoffman was a nominee. She is asked by the interviewer who she is looking forward to seeing and she mentions a few names then she says, "I am really looking forward to seeing Phillip Semen Hoffman."

The Porn Nerd 02-02-2014 01:10 PM

He was only 46 but looked 66 so I'm guessing he was abusing himself for a very long time.

All that talent and success and still he needed an addictive substance to get him through his oh-so-glamorous Hollywood life. Fucking sad - yet typical in some ways.

R.I.P.

American Psycho 02-02-2014 01:11 PM

Damn.Didnt know he was junked out....

Sad.
He had everything except his sobriety.

Maqua 02-02-2014 01:20 PM

I think the legality of it isn't something you would discuss during an RIP thread. But the argument of whether grown men have the right to kill themselves with drugs is an important debate. Getting them is illegal, and he was able to use them regularly anyway. But it is a very sad loss.

As we both know, addiction is a complicated and complex issue. Could have just as easily have been death from alcohol poisoning (legal drug). NO difference.

Point is a talented guy was lost be that from a car crash or a drug overdose.

Now go fuck yourself. :thumbsup

topsiteking 02-02-2014 02:07 PM

Very sad.
One of the greats.
And to think he was clean for 23 years...

More Americans die from prescription drug overdoses than coke and heroin overdoses combined. It's not even close.

hellboy78 02-02-2014 03:02 PM

another friend is gone

lol, because they are not taking them as directed. They are overdosing which is what kills them, not the taking of prescription drugs as directed by their doctors.

mineistaken 02-02-2014 03:15 PM

junkie be junkie go (no sympathy for heroin injecting weaklings)

TonyJ 02-02-2014 03:17 PM

I completely agree.

The dude had everything- fame, fortune, accolades, family. He was recently named the highest paid actor in hollywood, won the oscar, legions of fans. All of it.

He chose heroin instead.

He obviously had his priorities and died doing what he liked most.

My point was in response to Squealer's comment. Just because something is legal, doesn't mean it can't be abused. And just because something is illegal, doesn't mean it is going to be abused.

You can regulate all you want. People will do what they want to do regardless, if they are so inclined. Based on history, in the United States, prohibition has very negative consequences. Finally seeing some light with marijuana.

MPGdevil 02-02-2014 04:11 PM

Oh no, another guy chose to fuck up his own life with drugs and dies. How unfortunate.

Meanwhile 100 kids die from hunger and disease without a chance in life, and no one gives a shit.
