Just got a domain cancelled

Anyone ever have this happen before?
It really scares me that they do this, without any warnings.
I registered a meds domain at Godaddy. It had the word drugstore in the title.
Now apparently i broke some rules. So i admit in the end it's my fault.
But a few things bother me. Why do they let you register that domain in the first place? If they don't allow domain names with the words drugsstore in it but make sure people can't register them!
Also, even if they allow it for whatever stupid reason don't let people make a website out if it, let it run for 6 months and then cancel it.
And at least give a damn warning! Allow me to transfer it somewhere else!
No, they won't. You just get a mail your domain is cancelled.
Now this was just a blog with some articles on it. No biggie. But imagine working on a site for 6 months just to find out they killed it when you wake up one morning.
Guess it's time to read all the shit on their website about what's allowed and what not...

Markul 08-23-2012 03:13 AM

Don't use GoDaddy for anything... ever!

notjoe 08-23-2012 03:14 AM

I'm surprised. That is pure bullshit. Who do they think they are to police what domains you can and can't register?

crockett 08-23-2012 03:19 AM

Why do people still use godaddy..They pull this type of shit all the time, deleting or locking names and people always act surprised when it happens to them..

Well, if they don't allow certain names then don't let people fucking register them! That's what annoys me! That is just retarded.

No, what was that about?
Anyway, i moved most of my domains to Namecheap recently. I guess i'm gonna move everything now.
Namecheap won't pull shit like this right?

nextri 08-23-2012 03:29 AM

If you had been running a legit drugstore, and needed an informational website for your store, you would be allowed to use and keep your domain. It's only when it's used for something that is against their terms specifically that they cancel it. That's why they allow registration in the first place..
It's still bull shit that they can do this though..

I can't promote a drugstore through my blog?

Dirty F 08-23-2012 03:34 AM

I thought it was 100% because of the name. So it's about your content. That scares me even more. That means they can cancel any site you have with them at any time because there is something on your site they don't like.

Dirty F 08-23-2012 03:35 AM

And can't they just fucking warn you before they kill the domain?

BIGTYMER 08-23-2012 03:43 AM

I have marijuana related sites with them for years. No probs.

bluebook18 08-23-2012 03:46 AM

that's why i don't use them though

topsiteking 08-23-2012 03:49 AM

Reason #745668578 not to use GoDaddy.

georgeyw 08-23-2012 03:52 AM

Didn't the owner of godaddy shoot an elephant not so long ago?

similar here. I am less time in business
but never had that problem.

Jel 08-23-2012 04:15 AM

saying you've never had a problem with godaddy and continue to use them is like saying you've never had a crash or been nicked for drink driving, but carry on doing it. You might never have a crash or get nicked, but why risk it when the odds are that you probably will (aside from the moral issues before that analogy gets taken totally out of context and the thread derails)?

It just adds to my loathing of GD.

Going back a few years I had a domain cancelled by NameCheap, I posted it here and it turned into a bit of a drama and eventually the CEO reged and came here to GFY to sort it out himself. They knew the value of the adult biz....

Lets see if this twat will do the same - lol

AdultKing 08-23-2012 04:49 AM

This isn't a new phenomenon.

http://domainnamewire.com/2011/02/16...tes-last-year/

The likelihood is you have been caught up in this domain sweet involving the US Government.

What drugstore? I've been doing well with Bigelow.

You are right. I'm doing the same thing as Webair users who have been warned over again but take no action. And then come here crying because they've been Webaired.

So is there any point in moving everything to Namecheap then?

Let me put it this way. Which company won't delete my domain like that. Without even warning me.

Don't you people think they at least should've given me the chance to transfer the domain? I mean i paid for the damn thing.

I bought Eric 2 hookers and some blow.

Pink Misfit 08-23-2012 06:29 AM

Did you get a refund for the domain?

I use Fabulous and Enom for most of my higher end domains.
