Here if you have some extra $$$ you drive a Mercedes. I opted for the Nissan Altima with the 3.5. I can have the kids, the dog and grandma in it and still blow them away. That way I still have the extra $$$.

Man that's pretty ignorant from whoever posted that. That seems to be a problem from certain people in this industry. They equal Flash with success. They don't understand the concept of living a simple life and still have money.

and I KNOW they're everywhere, in every industry, but to anyone that's ever done trade shows in a different line of work, you'll understand. Ever see a company "Be a failure" because their party was in a hotel this year, whereas last year it was on a ship? Quiet, I respect the fact that you're not a flashy guy on GFY, I don't know you personally but from what I can gather, you seem down to earth. If you like your Honda, then great, that's what you should drive. If you like pink 10 speed bikes, then thats' what you should have.

Honda doesn't scream, "I AM SOMEBODY", and we all know that's what important.

I think they're fuckin' crazy, but ah well...I know this guy who's a big time investment banker, he can buy and sell most of the porn people I know and he drives a new Accord, he pays cash for them every few years.

A car is one of the worst investments you can make.

It immediately starts depreciating.

Hmmm this talk about cars and spending raises an interesting point I realized recently.

IF you own your own business and claim business expenses, it is SMARTER to LEASE a vehicle than buy one. This way, you only pay for the part of the car you use instead of hanging on to a quickly depreciating asset.

Advantages:
1) you can trade it in after lease expires--you will always have the latest model

2) you don't get saddled with depreciation

3) tax write off along with all other vehicle maintenance costs

4) greater license to be loose with car maintenance -- much looser than if you OWNED the vehicle.

Of course, like any principle, this has exceptions: if you are buying a classic car or a car that will be a classic and there is a good probability of asset appreciation, then buy a car.

It's all in the mechanics anyway ... you end up paying more than the mechanics are worth in a Ferrari because of the prestige

i dont know how someone can consider living large as negative. you might consider the possible consequences of it as negative but it depends on the consistancy of your financial situation.

yeah I guess that's it .. people burning money they can't afford to burn .. if you're a multi-millionaire and have no money problems .. then go all the way .. but some people still perceive that as negative .. jealousy mostly I guess

Most of the guys I work with and a few of my buddies can't figure this out - they ask why I ride around on £2000 worth of beaten up bike when I can afford a brand new one. Why would I want to ride a brand new bike all year round (700 miles a week) crash it a few times, drop it a couple more, scratch the paintwork with luggage... and end up with brand new bike looking like a £2k beaten up one after a year??

I say just make enough money so you don't have to worry about it. Buy whatever you will enjoy. I don't know too many guys that wouldn't like to hit the curves in a Ferrari. If you have never driven such a machine then wait until you do to respond.

for me a car has to be confortable, have a great sound system, moon roof, and lots of other stuff that makes riding a car such a nice experience .. it's not at all about getting seen

Simple statistics - more miles = more crashes. Ask the other Brits on the board what the weather here has been like over the past few weeks - snow, high winds etc

I drive a G-5 and own my shack of a condo,thats all I need right now...Anybody that feels the need to have over 3 cars is seeking attention and/or lots of poon.Having mutiple homes is a good thing but I don't see too many of those being shown off around here :winkwink:
