Where's the missing dollar? - problem

You saw a shirt for $97. You have 0$. So you borrow $50 from your mom, and $50 from your dad. 50+50=100. You buy the shit and have $3 change. You give yor mom $1 and your dad $1 and keep $1 for yourself. You now owe your mom $49 and your dad $49. 49+49=98 plus your $1 = 99. Where's the missing dollar?

30 page thread in the works.

 you ate it.

The is no extra dollar. You added the wrong numbers together to get $98 because there are really 2 extra dollars. $97 for the shirt + the $1 you kept = $98 The 2 extra dollars went back to your parents

supplier gets arrested for tax evasion and shirts seized as evidence

If you had three loonies instead of just one loonie and one $2 bill, it wouldnt have been an issue. Canadian math is funny.
	 |

And the missing dollar is in your pocket. If you borrow $50 from each parent, give them $50 back.

I think Sleazy spent the money on beer.

The dollar you have kept for yourself should not have been added to the money you owe, it should have been subtracted instead.
98-1=97 97 is the worth of the shirt. the 3 dollars, let's say, if given to ur mom or dad, and you didn't keep anything for you, then you owe them, 48 and 49. There's no missing dollar. |

This is a cool spin on a classic problem about attentiveness and perspective. Lots of professors open class with this oldie but goodie. Thanks for reminding me!
	 |

Simple, the $98 is the some of $100 less the $2 you already paid back and not the total paid for anything
	 |

It's interesting how many ways people break this down. I always go for the easy way.
	$97 spent $1 in my pocket $2 paid back Equals $100. |

Did you post this "problem" because it stumped you Sleazy?

Spent $97 Gave back $2 - (Owe $98) Have $1 Equals the $100 borrowed. Anyhow, I am just fucking with you with comments like that. We went back and forth a lot over the years and you really pissed me off about one specific thing long ago but none of it is really important. Have a good day. |

anyone who has ever sold anything will figure it out this way , you have a $97 shirt and $1 , meaning you have $98 worth of product, you owe $98 , there never was a missing dollar
