Larger Monitor - Sickness/Headache ?
Anyone switched from a normal monitor to a 20" LCD or similiar size and noticed feeling sick or get a headache from it ?
|
Gotta love radiation sickness :1orglaugh
|
:throwup
|
I have a 15 lcd + 20 lcd never had a problem, beats looking at a CRT all day.
|
make sure to set your refresh rate to at least 85Hz.
i've used my 19" CRT for 2 years now, and never got a headache from it |
I got a 18" LCD in DEC and I love it the CRT just sucked in comparison.
|
give it a few days
your eyes are probably just adjusting |
Could be the refresh rate like lane said... If not maybe get yourself an anti-glare screen.
|
Try playing with the levels on your lcd, or lighting in the room
I found the CRT display was really hard on my eyes, especially the reflection of the room lighting on the glass screen of the monitor Good luck |
refresh rate is 60hz, choices are 60, 70 and 72.
the resolution is set at 1280 x 1024 |

eeeewwwww....i have refresh rate 85 then your eyes do not hurt :2 cents: (resolution 1280 x 1024) |
I got an 18" LCD 3 weeks ago, its great. No more head or eye aches. I keep it at 1024x768 tho.
|
Fuck, I want an LCD!!!
:( |
This is usually a common problem associated with lighting.
If you are using the screen with natural daylight make sure there is no reflection from windows (the big holes in the wall filled with glass, not the one from mr gates :) ) If you are using artificial light try not to use the centre light in the middle of the ceiling. Try to use uplighters that will direct the light away from the area you are working. Trust me. In my day job I am a lighting engineer :thumbsup |
ok I did a little reading and refresh rate isn't an issue with LCD from what I've seen. Only with CRT's.
This is a 20.1" LCD. After using it a little bit thought it seems to be a lot better. The first 10 minutes took getting used to for sure. |
Sniff, Sniff, My 19 inch monitor went out on me a month ago :(
And now, my backup 15 inch is about to go out too, so I have to switch to my 14.1 vewable laptop. :-( I never had problems except when I was tired, thenit was just too much to look at :) |
What monitor is this?
I have 19" LCD Samsung Synchmaster and its awesome... no strain at all. This monitor had some calibration software that allowed me to set the lighting environment. Perhaps yours does as well. |
I picked up that 20.1" Flat panel LCD from Dell for $849.
UltraSharp 2000 model. |
Get a nice flat screen & a radiation filter, fixed my headaches with a quickness
|
what is the refresh rate? i just set mine to 85 from 75...now my brain is playing games on my eyes lol
:glugglug |
Brujah,
Where did you get it from? Was it a refurbished one? I am looking to buy a 21'' LCD myself. |
I know how you feel, when i got my 19inch i felt dizzy at first, all that space:) but you do get used to it after a couple of days, plus the refresh rate has to be high. i am at 1280x1024 at around 80 hz horizontal and 75 vertical
all the best and flat rocks! |

It may be time for computer glasses! I was getting headaches all the time and Advil just wasn?t cutting it. Saw an Ophthalmologist, my eyes are good, but when he heard that I work on a computer 12 hours a day, a prescription was given. The glasses seem to relieve the eye stress but his suggestion of doing eye exercises (every half an hour ?stare? at a far point for a couple of minutes) made the headaches go away.
Lighting, as mentioned, is very important and refresh rate. I don?t have a LCD monitor but with my laptop I tilt it a little forward?seems to helps. :) |

Err its a LCD? I don't know much about LCD's really.. but if its a CRT with those refresh rates -- that would make me sick for sure. |

http://www.cadalyst.com/reviews/hard...02lcd/dell.htm CNet 95% recommended http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0...-20025054.html The monitor gives you the viewing area of a 21- inch CRT display and offers picture-in-picture capability with analog, digital, S-video and composite inputs. I mentioned earlier that I read the refresh rates aren't a factor for LCD's. So this doesn't apply if that's correct, unless you know something I don't. |
ATTENTION CRT EXPERTS!$$! THE REFRESH RATES DON'T MATTER FOR LCD!!
|
Brujah,
Do you have the URL from which you purchased it? I have my CC in hand. :thumbsup |

21" Sony trinitron for the last 2 years. love it.
|
Anyone else know of a good place to get 19-21'' LCD's cheap?
|
Yep. Got a 19" NEC LCD. I made it for about 3 days before I took it back.
The resolution was just too intense, I prefer 1024 x 768 and as well the 60hz flicker from the backlight was murder. |
Both of mine are over 21 inches and I have never gotten sick staring at them all day long..

If I work on a monitor smaller than my 20" for too long, or work at a resolution lower than 1280 x 1164, I get a screaming headache.
|
Brujah,
Definitely. It will go away (does for me) after getting used to it though. Just tought it out, in a couple days nothing will seem out of normal. Just moving from a 17" to 19" effected me a little. I bet you also get motion sickness when reading in a car right? ;) If so I bet they are related somehow.. I do as well. -Phil |
yup you'll get that for 3-5 days when switching from CRT -> LCD. BUt don't worry, in the long run your eyes will be healthier. LCDs emit 0 radiation.
|
I have a 21" CRT. I would never ever ever use a LCD. Their colors and viewing angle are poor as as fuck. I've never gotten a headache from looking at my crt.
