Breaking news : Japanese nuclear reactor exploded
What a horrible mess. Looks like it's like going to be Chernobyl.
Watch CNN now. |
[3:08 a.m. ET, 5:08 p.m. Tokyo] An explosion has been reported near a nuclear plant in northeastern Japan's Fukushima prefecture, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported, citing the country's nuclear and industrial safety agency.

watching on NHK live now, they show before and after pictures with one building totally gone
|
I'm watching on NHK
They say a whole plant dome is just collapsed. |
Yeah :s
and cooling systems are failing and great danger of one reactor overheating. One hour of radiation there is equal to a 1 years of normal radiation. |
wow `30 generators for backup and ALL 30 failed due to the quake.
How difficult can it be to bring in more generators? Before and after http://michaelo.dk/boom.jpg |
Do the Japanese have a contingency plan for this scenario?
WTF!? |
Years of movies have taught me to never trust anything that mutates in Japan. Prepare for war...

One expert said the explosion was "clearly a serious situation," but may not be related to problems inside the plant's nuclear reactor.
Other effects of the tsunami may have caused the blast, said Malcolm Grimston, associate fellow for energy, environment and development at London's Chatham House. "It's clearly a serious situation, but that in itself does not necessarily mean major (nuclear) contamination," he said. |
Near. Near they said.

noxious gas just exploded near my nutsack...

|
Have a japanese person at my work now, he is saying that if it is a true meltdown, it will eventually hit the water table causing a massive nuclear bomb style blast.
|
I wonder what all the pro-nuclear politicians in the US think about building more reactors now?
|
So much for that "clean, safe power" theory. BBC trying to play it down, and failing.
When I was young and protesting at Diablo Canyon, this is exactly the scenario we were trying to illustrate. There is no such thing as a "fail safe" sytem with that kind of energy. |

They are saying the exterior walls are gone but the metal housing holding the reactor is still intact.
