Microsoft: Xbox 360 Price Drop Timing Coincidental

Welcome to the day after Microsoft lowered the price on its $300 Xbox 360 Elite, wrinkling its brow and lowering its horns to meet Sony's slimmer, $100 cheaper PlayStation 3 in battle. While the incidentals differ between the two, we've officially entered the melee phase of the campaign. The riders are off their horses, lances in the mud, swords drawn, endorsement-and-feature-laden tabards flapping. Welcome to the first day of the headiest holiday game sales season in years.

That is because you are smart. 360 is much better than PS3

mynameisjim 08-28-2009 12:42 PM

PS3 just doesn't have the games or a decent online service. Next price drop I may pick one up but it's still too expensive compared to what you get with a 360.

Sosa 08-28-2009 12:47 PM

All my PS3 does is play Blu Ray movies

That just shows ignorance. Man I love the fanbois from both sides spouting off crap about the other system they ave ZERO clue about.

PS3 too expensive?

Um

PS3 120 GB $299
XBOX 360 Elite 120 GB $299.

math is not your friend.

Wow last time I checked both systems have pretty much the same games. Not sure where you get your info.

Varius 08-28-2009 02:19 PM

The ONLY reason people say XBox 360 is better is the current game selection. With every passing day, PS3 is catching up on that and will surpass XBox in quality exclusive titles before long.

Every other aspect of the systems, IMO, PS3 wins - hands down.

Hardware - PS3 by a mile. Most developers haven't figured out how to take advantage of it yet, but they will.

Online - PS3 online experience just works better in my opinion, I live in Costa Rica and have never had any lag even with my shitty connection; XBox Live from here has tons of lag.

Controller - I guess a matter of personal preference, but I think PS3's controller is a lot better than XBox's. I suppose you could buy the same style controller on XBox though made by third parties.

Blu-Ray - I personally have yet to watch a Blu-Ray, but hey if it's there, that's an added value in my opinion.

Curious, but besides games (which in a few more months should be about even in selection) in what ways do you XBox fans think its better than PS3?

Bojangles 08-28-2009 02:27 PM

Already have an Elite. I will be picking up a PS3 for bluray, though. :)

potter 08-28-2009 02:35 PM

the wii all the way. the new resort game is awesome. getting off your ass and interacting with games is way better.

if you want better graphics and hardcore gaming. sorry, the computer pwns all systems. so there is no argument for the ps3 or xbox. ps3 & xbox = shitty computer system. wii = interactive one of a kind system.

I have both, but my xbox and various friends xbox's have gotten the red rings. Kind of a hassle to bring it back or call Microsoft. I enjoy my PS3 way better and the fact that ive yet to have a single problem with it for over a year is a plus in my book. In the end Each has its pros and cons and what it really comes down to is what appeals to you personally. for me ill take the PS3, but im not hating on the xbox, great console when its not dead. :2 cents:

DefaultMan 08-28-2009 02:37 PM

What exclusive games does XBox have besides Halo? PS3 has inFAMOUS, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet and soon God of War 3. The only reason I would pick up an XBox is for some exclusive XBox Live games like Braid.

TopBucksPaul 08-28-2009 02:54 PM

PS3 needs more games and just doesn't have an equivalent to XBox live. I dig the PS3 though too, just their market share standing really was hurt by how expensive they started out at.

Have to agree on most of these... Once they catch up on games, it will truly be a fair fight.

have you ever tried programming a game for ps3
have you tried programming a game using xna

apple was superior to windows when it started
windows was way easier to program for

who won in the end.

I might actually care about that if I worked for, invested in or otherwise got a share of Sony's profits, but since I don't, I'll stick by my opinion on which machine I enjoy more and which machine I think is the better one :)

I'll check my math if you check your reading comprehension skills.

If you reread my post, I said it's too expensive compared to what you get with a 360. That means everything, not just the HDD size. The live service, the huge game library, etc. All those things add up to the 360 being a much better value. Most serious gamers play online and there is no debate on whether or not the 360 live service is better. Not to mention the huge library of 360 games you can get used for $20 or less.

I'm not a fanboy and I'll pick up a PS3 at some point, but right now the 360 is just better when you consider everything.

VeriSexy 08-28-2009 06:33 PM

I got both systems, I play with my 360 more

AdultHardcore 08-28-2009 06:43 PM

but you missed the point, the ease of programming for the xbox means that the ps3 will never catch up with the xbox.

it cost way more it both time and money to build a game for ps3

when they do program for ps3 they NEVER fully exploit the hardware because doing so prevents them from using the easy porting tools for xbox 360.

Via stocks.

Apple is currently worth: $152,334,191,000
Microsoft is currently worth: $219,898,800,000

And Microsoft having a 52 week change of -9.56%
Apple having a 52 week change of +0.31%

That's a 21 billion yearly loss for Microsoft, and Apple is slowly still rising. Apple will be bigger than Microsoft within five years, no doubt.

So for example, let's take God of War 3. At the moment, it looks awesome for the PS3 and there is no word that it will be ported to XBox. How does that fit in with your claim?

Why is there no debate? In what way is Xbox Live better than PSN, I'm very curious to know...

how many YEARS has ps3 been catching up on games? they'll either do it or not but spending the money now is pointless if you're doing it in the hope that "someday" they'll have exclusive games worthy of playing.

Persius 08-29-2009 02:20 PM

xbox live just makes the kill for me :) :thumbsup

I have nothing against the PS3 and I think it's a great console. But even my friends who have a PS3 and a 360 prefer to play the 360 on-line and use the Microsoft live service. It's just more fleshed out and has more features at this point.

Like I said, I'm not a 360 fanboy and I think the PS3 is a great console. But right now the 360 has a lot of advantages, mostly because it came out sooner. In about year, the PS3 will have a lot more new games and that's probably when I'll buy one.

Whichever one you have, make sure to check out the new demo for a game called "Wet". Pretty cool.

PastorSinAlot 08-29-2009 02:52 PM

360 for me, even thru i am on my third one. Two of them busted. The first one busted the 2 month of play

NaughtyRob 08-29-2009 03:15 PM

PS3 vs 360 is like Mac vs PC argument, none are truely better, it just depends what you want to use them for.

I love my 360 but may get a PS3 since it has a built in blueray and I don't have that yet.

There are already a number of great PS3 exclusives and this year there are some big ones coming out.

I have both and usually play all the offline stuff on the PS3 and the online stuff on the 360.

XBox Live has the online shit down.

:2 cents: We use NetFlix on our 360 though... way more than games and with the last update I can now browse almost all of the selections without having to use the online queue anymore... that rocks! :thumbsup

Not sure why you would need to buy a PS3 just for the blu ray... you can get a blu ray player for half the price or less.

Manowar 08-29-2009 03:47 PM

ps3 slim = sex in a box

NaughtyRob 08-29-2009 03:55 PM

Wow, I didnt know the price for blu ray players dropped that much!

each console has exclusive games

oh and sony paid a good premium for exclusivity. including advertising bumps with their consoles for game.

you can only do so many of those deals, because you can only commit so much of your ad space to showcase a particular game.

Meanwhile, Atari 2600s are fetching upwards of $50 depending on how/where you look. What the fuck is up with that!?
