I just hit a boar going 120...

I was having such a good day. Got the car chipped, was driving to the bar with my cousin and out of butt fuck nowhere a fucking like 100kg boar runs out onto the road.

Car needs new hood, fender, inner fender, front bumper, front headlights, grill, rad support, rebar, both airbags.

The good part is that since it was outside of the designated animal x-ing area, the country will reimburse me for the repair costs, but not without a lengthly fight. The thing ran out of a fucking farm field :(

baddog 04-04-2008 01:54 PM

I had no idea boars could run that fast.

WTF? The government will repair your car because a fucking boar could not read the signs?

Good use of your tax dollars. </sarcasm>

Tylo 04-04-2008 01:58 PM

Damn that was fast!

They'll do it in canada and the states too I think. Even if you hit a pothole and flatten a tire they will reimburse you.

JFK 04-04-2008 02:02 PM

DepravedPreacher 04-04-2008 02:05 PM

A pothole is something they have control over. Wildlife is not.

All over the interior of BC they had fences running alongside the side of the road. There are ways to control it.

kristin 04-04-2008 02:25 PM

LOL ... hahahahahahaahaha Konrad.

BradM 04-04-2008 02:27 PM

I can't tell you how many moose I've almost hit. Deer too.
A board... well that's different lol.

So you guys know how to waste tax dollars and disrupt the natural scenery while you are at it.

Negative on Canada reimbursing you for hitting wild life.

In British Columbia, if you hit an animal and can prove you hit an animal, it would be covered on your ICBC insurance under comprehensive. Same thing that covers broken windshields, theft, fire, etc etc. Sometimes they'll just fuck you over if you can't show it was clearly an animal and try and do it under your Collision policy, which constitutes an at fault accident and raises your insurace.

I hit a deer once so I had to go through this. There were pieces of flesh and hair lodged in my bumper though so I didn't have problems with proof.

BradM 04-04-2008 02:33 PM

WarChild: A lot of my friends nailed deer, and they knew the procedure so they just cut a chunk of flesh off the animal and slapped it on the insurance brokers desk.

(4x4ing guys, not the most elegant or proper of the bunch)

But yes, that's correct.

I hardly think putting up a fence to keep people from injuring themselves or getting into serious accidents when a deer runs out of nowhere is a waste of tax dollars.

Have you ever lived where there are a shitload of deer or where horses and cows can just randomly escape?

Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree then. I travel a lot and it would piss me off if every forest I went thru had a fence up to keep deer off the highways.

Lived? Not hardly. But as stated above, I travel a lot. It is one thing for a rancher to keep his horses and cows off the road, but they are not wildlife.

baddog 04-04-2008 02:44 PM

And how tall of a fence would you need to keep deer from escaping?

leedsfan 04-04-2008 02:45 PM

Man alive.

Bacon.

You should do the 12 hr drive from Thunder Bay to Kenora at nighttime. There is a very high percentage that you will have to dodge a moose, just a deer if lucky. This is the TransCanada highway and is the main route by vehicle across the thick forest of Western Ontario. If you are on wheels, its the way you gotta go.

The chances have been weakend in the last few years since they installed "moose fences" along alot of the northern King's Highway, but i have on numerous occasions seen them stuck on this side of the fence, and they are not shy about hitting the road.

A 1200lb moose is a little diferant then a couple hundred pound deer or any bear (lower body mass, they don't end up IN your lap.

http://www.zenwaiter.com/moosephoto.htm Some photos of a moose collision, this one isnt even that bad and I've been on scene to atleast 2 worse personally.

Makingcoin 04-04-2008 02:50 PM

Shit man, sorry to hear that. I know you just got that car a month ago or so. :(

F-U-Jimmy 04-04-2008 03:04 PM

I have ridden my bike on highways that literally smelled like slaughterhouses from all the dead, rotting meat. I have also had friends killed and severely injured due to striking animals that darted in front of them.

And yeah, those furry little fuckers scare me when I see them prancing along the side of the highway, especially at dusk, but I will accept them as part of the risk rather than throwing up wallsand fences along every highway and interstate.

GAMEFINEST 04-04-2008 03:34 PM

MaDalton 04-04-2008 04:00 PM

i drove a couple of times through poland by night, especially in autumn/winter the roads are a fucking zoo. i've been close to hitting something a couple of times but was lucky. my biz partner once hit a deer with his 330d - the result looked somehow similar to yours. good luck with the insurance company, he got everything paid

tranza 04-04-2008 04:06 PM

Wow, you fucked up your car pretty badly....

Alky 04-04-2008 04:16 PM

120kph, speed limit was 90 or 100 in that spot. I was speeding, but It's a 10km stretch of straight road with no potholes so it wasn't exactly unsafe. Average speed on this road during the day is around 140-150

the fencing is actually only on the major highways .. and it is 100% to keep animals off the roadway .. they provide one way gates every so often so if an animal was to get caught on the wrong side of the fence they can still get through as well there are tunnels every so often to allow migratory species to roam freely and not be killed by autos .. at first i thought what a fucking waste of cash ..but then i find out its not just our tax dollars it is our insurance company which pretty much runs our roads and pays for all these things through our payments in conjunction with tax dollars .. In the long run I see it has saved hundreds of lives of both people and animals .. we're proud to be Canadian and have all the cool wildlife up here .. the last thing I want to hit is a 1200lb moose or Elk while i am ripping along at 80mph ..

k0nr4d 04-04-2008 05:36 PM

baddog, this video should really hit home with you...
https://youtube.com/watch?v=A6VS6qsLJeY

This is why those fences are important.
