I hate to say this... But yes, This is what we call American Freedom. The recent action by Visa is for a number of reasons; One of them must be to prevent people from out of the country making money and not reporting it as taxes.

maybe just maybe the IRS had some thing to do with this.. I do not know but I do know 100% that the reports ccbill, ibill and others will be sending to Visa.. Will go to them (IRS) all they have to do is ask and they will get'm..

IRS is something else. 1 time they rented a Scale from me.. They were checking out a new formula they came up with to catch people that own Laundry Mats.. and the pricks rented the cheapest I had.. Laundry Mats = Cash business.... but if you own one and cheat on your tax's they will get you....

I don't see how Visa OR the IRS has any right to stick their fuckin' noses into the business of people out of country.

Ian 10-04-2002 04:39 PM

Why is it that people can use Visa all over the world but anyone accepting Visa for payment has to have a US "presence", Tax ID# & a US Bank account?

If this isn't a huge clusterfuck by an arrogant US company/monopoly I don't know what is.

I don't think Visa gives a shit about who is paying what in taxes. But who knows who put Visa up this?

The IRS? I'm sure the IRS is pissed at what's going on at all levels. A webmaster in Russia or in a hut in some third world country can make US dollars by the truckloads, and there is nothing the IRS can do about it.

The credit card processors pay me, but I'm in the US; It's reported to the IRS. If a webmaster lives in Russia there isn't anything the IRS can do about it.

And what about the credit card processors? Don't you guys think they have an interest in this? They want more control over who uses their services, and what they can do when things get turned upside down.

This is just the start of things to come. We'll see much more of this, and in other areas other than just the adult industry.

see... this is where you lose me.... why should the IRS give a flying shit about some guy in Russia paying US taxes in the first place?

Choker 10-04-2002 08:09 PM

Why do the guys with the good content have to put things like this in their liceneses??

Up to thirty (30) images may be used at one time in a thumbnail post URL.

I guess you mean on a tgp or a gallery? Either way this clause is restrictive to the end user.

I would buy your entire inventory, but I stay away from any providers who do not provide proof of age of models or limit how I can use content on my own domains. It's your right to do this of course.

Exactly..... by this logic all the US webmasters should be paying tax in Australia or Canada or wherever when they use a sponsor there.

Rochard 10-04-2002 09:24 PM

That's just it.

I live in the USA. If I'm pushing Platinum Bucks, Platinum Bucks is paying me. Platinum Bucks is paying me for my work; I should be paying taxes in Canada. Money is being transfered across the border and there is nothing Canada can do about it.

Here's another example - When I hire out Hungryman to do work for me.... I'm in the USA, and he's in Canada. I list the money I pay to him with the IRS, but I have no idea if he tells anyone up north about the money I made.

So Visa is trying to clean house - It's trying to kill webmasters will high chargeback rates. And at the same time they are helping the IRS.

TarPy 10-05-2002 10:34 AM

This is begining to concern me quite a bit. First the beatiality thing, which I don't support, but seems rather inappropriate for VISA to mandate. After all, I can use American Dollars to buy weed, or to pay for a hit on my wife. Both are illegal to do, however possible with money. More and more everyday credit becomes money, after all without the gold standard, what is money but credit enough to buy something else. There is no garentee that with inflation the dollar I give you today will buy something that would be on the dollar menu today, because it might be $1.09 tomorrow. So, to me VISA and MasterCard basically have a oligopoly on the credit industry.

That being said, I feel that credit is such a necessary element to today's economic system that it should be handled almost like currency. That it should be a government system. However, that scares me even more due to the paper trail that it creates. Not that most things that I do are illegal, but assuming this progressed into our total currency being all card based, then how would you buy a folex on the street, or weed from a dealer. Bah, I don't know what I started out saying, other than the amount of power VISA is wielding is scary as hell.

Here's what I don't get.
Let's say I fly to Australia on a vacation. I find a hat there that I like. I pay for it, I take it home. The merchant doesn't have to have an established "presence" to take my money or my credit card. The only taxes the merchant pays are the ones Australia says he has to pay.

Now I'm home. I surf to an australian porn site. I like it, I sign up. But now, for some reason, the merchant *does* have to have an established "presence" in order to take my money or my credit card, *and* the merchant has to pay US taxes because I paid in US currency(or US credit). Then the merchant also has to pay Australian taxes on that money.

THIS DOES NOT COMPUTE.

Why does the situation change between my physically buying something from an Australian merchant and me virtually buying something from an Australian merchant??

It doesn't make sense!
