Did Webmasters get Screwed by Larry Flynt?
Here's the debate.....
FlyntDigital.com uses text in our promotions to webmasters that say "Larry Flynt Signs These Checks". In reality, we had Larry's original signature digitized as it would be impossible for Larry to sign thousands of checks one by one. SleazyDream thinks that we ripped people off because there was a "perceived" value in that some webmasters apparently thought that there was going to be an original signature by Larry on their checks (although we didn't get any complaints about this to my knowledge, except from SleazyDream) I don't think we ripped anyone off, nor do I think this is false marketing (the bank excepts the digital signature, so it's as good as a hand written signature) What does everyone else think? |

is this a cheezy attempt to spam your program?
|
I think if it wasn't for Larry Flint, most of people here wouldn't have a job...:Graucho
|
The truth is that I was expecting a real signature on my 1st check. When I received it, I realised how much pain in the ass would be for Larry Flynt to sign 5000 checks of $20-40 value for the tgp webmasters :1orglaugh
|
Sure, a guy who got a $20 cheque from Flynt Digital and had big plans to sell it as a collector's item someday might cry ripoff. An authentic Larrysig might be worth something to someone out there......
so I voted "who fucking cares." |
Realistically I think Larry has better things to do with his time than sign cheques that for the most part are less than $1000 a month for 1000+ people.

Pipecrew - nope.... it's a cheesy attempt to settle a dispute.
I told SleazyDream that I'd give him 5k if he could find anyone that we had ever ripped off. This is what he came back with....that we ripped off webmasters because Larry's original sig wasn't on our checks. I think it's insane....but hey, what do I know. If everyone actually feels they got ripped off...then I'll pay up! I told him we'd do a poll and if he won....I'd send 5k to his favorite charity (his idea). Worst case is that a good charity gets 5k. So.....here we are :) Just to make sure people don't vote for him JUST because the money is going to charity....we're gonna donate 5k to charity either way :) |
Fuck does flynt digital screw people...I made $1k for 30 minutes work...easy
|
Larry Flynt is the fucking man. If he screws you, you should feel honored.
Go Larry! |
Sleazydream has just named me as his favorite charity :D

i'm on Ken's side on this one, to think this is a rip-off is stupid, because its Flynts sig (whether digital or not).....there is no way you could make a legal case against this advertising technique.
...his name is on the check no?? BTW, when I first read it and saw, LF signs these checks,' I thought to myself they're using his name to market a product, so he's probably behind this some how....not that he sits around signing 15 dolar checks all day long. I knew they would use a digital sig., ITS CALLED TECHNOLOGY..........not misleading at ALL! I think its fair to say he has more important things to do....Like loose all his $$ in Vegas :) BUT who the Fuck cares...that's my vote. :thumbsup PxG |
I never thought he would actually SIGn the checks.
I took it as a "backing" since I recall lots of discussion of "bad checks" on the boards round that time. Could be wrong. But thats how I took it. Assurance, not trickery. |
I honestly wouldnt doubt that sleazydream is making new accounts on this board just to sign up and vote for himself to snag the $5k...
About this whole debate, it's just plain stupid. Grow up sleazy. |
Hand written or not it is still his sig. Besides the promo didn't read 'get larry flynt's autograph'
Who gives a fuck <---- my vote |
Was it a rip off? No.
Were there damages? No. Was it a misunderstanding for some people? I guess so. Could a reasonable person expect Larry Flynt to personally sign thousands of checks by hand every 2 weeks? Of course Not. If someone says Larry Flynt publishes Hustler, does that mean he has to personally print and bind every one in order to be true? Clearly that was a weak attempt by SleazyDream to piss with Ken. -KC |
The "Who gives a fuck" option really skews the results. All of those should be lumped into "Sleazy is insane"
I would make a yes/no poll that says.. "Were webmasters ripped off by Hustler, when their checks weren't hand signed by Larry Flynt" Then you'd see the landslide of webmasters that didn't feel they were Ripped off. |

I would rather have Ken sign my checks then larry!

These guys have been in business for a long time and they've been providing quality services to webmasters. In my six years in the industry, I've never heard a single complaint about them. IMO they are one of the most professional adult companies. Sure it's impossible to get a hold of anyone there when you want them to buy your content, but it's all good :smokin
About the contest Ken, If you're going to have designers attempt to design such a large project, you should have them do a small mockup and then decide which one would win the contract. No designer in their right mind is going to spend 40hrs on design work that they might not even get paid for. I'm not defending sleazydream, but I think this is what he was trying to say, it just came out all wrong. It appears everything just got taken out of it's original context. |
I always support my man SleazyDream .
P.s Sleazy, email me , I have something to tell u |
Fletchxxx/PxG....your both right. Normal checks that go out from LFP do not normally get signed by Larry (they are signed by his CFO and President) so we thought it would be cool if our checks had his sig on them....both as a novelty and because technology allowed us to do so. I still think it's pretty cool!
Thanks E-Randy! Brad - If you start sending us boatloads of traffic, I'll not only sign the checks but I'll hand deliver them to your doorstep! :) |
I thought larry flynt was retarded..no?
How can you expect someone of his nature at the present time to put that much emotional effort into scribbling a signature? Id rather have a person with some stable train of thought signing my checks. lol PD4L |
Who is Larry Flynt?
|
Ken,
I never said Larry Flynt ripped off webmasters for any money. My point was that stating "Larry Flynt signs the checks" is deceiving and when someone gets a digital print check they may feel ripped off that it wasn't Larry's actual signature when your company stats "Larry FLynt signs the checks". Actually Ken, your words on the bet were - and I quote - "How about this.....you find one person who we have EVER ripped off in the 5 years we've been in business....and I'll give YOU $5,000." Judging from this post it seems several people DID in fact feel ripped off - but the arrogance of you and your company seems to think it's ok now to change the rules and make it a MAJORITY DECISION - interesting as always that I see a lot of people on your payroll posting to this thread. Donating the money to a charity was MY idea, not yours. According to what you origionally said the money would be mine - to do with as I wish. It's my wish to donate it to a specific charity in the town where I live. I'm more than fine with you sending the money directly to THAT charity though. It's a legally registered non-profit organization with charity tax status called RiverDale Place homes for the mentally handicapped. It has about 15 clients and about 35 staff members. Personally I donate a lot of money to them every year, but every penny counts and $5000 would REALLY help to improve the standard of living of the handicapped clients that live there. If you send it I'll even get you a picture of a few of the clients with a sign that says "thank you for the $5000 cashquest" by the way - I personally voted that I was crazy. I was a little disinheartened that you made the poll sound like it was about money. My point wasn't about money - it was about feeling ripped off - which some people felt they were. If you do Have this reputation that all your staff and clients say you have, I'll expect you to send Riverdale Place Homes in Arborg Manitoba Canada a check for $5000. Anything less would be a cop out and not holding to your word at this point. Do that and I'll make a PUBLIC statement on GFY in your favor Stating that I was INDEED WRONG about EVERYTHING I SAID ABOUT YOU -----AND I'll post a Pic of myself EATING my Sleazydream Hat holding a copy of a hustler magazine. I won't twist the post to sound in my favor either, like you did with this one. You will be impressed with it. You can either mail them a check, wire the money (email me and I'll send you their mailing address or wire info) or I can have riverdale set up a paypal account. That is of course if you're man enough to stick to your word. |

SleazyDream - You really ARE insane. You should read my post again because it seems like you have some sort of reading disorder.....
1. I clearly stated in my initial post on this thread that it was about "perceived value"...not about actual cash. I understand your point and I think I stated it properly..... 2. I came up with the idea of a poll yesterday and you said that that was fine by you as a fair way to resolve this dispute. 3. You came up with the idea for the charity (which I gave you credit for above) if you won. 4. Only 1 of my staff members posted on this thread and all he said was that it was cool that a charity is gonna get money either way. Where did you get the idea that a "lot" of my staff members were posting? 5. Just because you and a couple other people "feel" ripped off, does not make it so. Obviously, the vast majority of people don't see it that way. It's a matter of opinion, not a fact. 6. I said I would give 5k to charity, regardless of how this poll ended up. We also make it a habit to give a lot of money to charity so it seems that we at least have that in common. So.... I expect to see that pic of you eating your hat and maybe....just maybe I'll get you an autographed Hustler magazine for the picture! :) and yes....Larry Flynt is FAR from retarded. He's actually very smart and still outwits most people he comes in contact with....especially in poker :) |

I'll respond to the numbered points according below: 1. true. you stated that - but if you just read the poll and vote before reading your post you don't get that impression. 2. I thought the purpose of the poll was to see if anyone did feel ripped off by the sig thing - and clearly some people felt ripped off by it. 3. my mistake 4. really no way to prove this on the poll resusts - one way or the other so it's kinda a mute point. 5. I never said the majority of people were ripped off - you said find ONE person who was ripped of - and I found a few. 6. That would be VERY cool. I told you I voted I was crazy. duuuuuuu But I'm good to my word - $5000 to Riverdale Place homes and I'lll post the pic of me eating my SleazyDream hat. |

This is old news.
I thought I pointed out nine months ago that I knew who signed the checks at Huster, a computer. I'm still being ribbed about it. :1orglaugh I don't think it was done in a effort to mislead, more an effort to increase impact on the banner. Neither do I think Sleazy was trying to imply a financial rip off, just a disappoinment in not getting a signed check from LF himself. |
stick to your guns Sleazy....
1. People shouldn't make stupid bets in the heat of the moment while they're sticking their chest out for their friends to see how cool they are, because someone will undoubtedly take you up on it and call the bluff. 2. They should be man enough to honor their words if #1 was disregarded instead of lapdancing around the issue looking for loopholes after the fact. from the looks of the poll, I'd say there is certainly more than one person who feels they were ripped. And from what I understand, that was the deal.... not the majority.... ONE. |
hehehehe
All I care about is whether they can be cashed...you guys have too much time on your hands. |

Amp - You're as delusional as SleazyBear. How did you ever get the idea that I'm trying to look for a loop hole????
I said I would give the 5k to charity either way, without anyone asking me to and after the poll results were clearly in my favor. If I was trying to find a loop hole, there were plenty of opportunities to do so...... I'm not trying to get out of anything and I didn't make a bet to impress anyone. I was making a point that we are not in the business of ripping people off.... If I wanted to find a loophole I would have said that when I made the bet I was talking about financially ripping someone off....not some bullshit about perceived value that is purely based on opinion and not fact. I made the bet long before SleazyDream said anything about the Flynt isssue. I was referring to his assumption that we were trying to rip people off with our design contest. But I didn't try to find a loop hole....instead I went along with the ridiculous notion that we ripped someone off somehow and I haven't once tried to back out of my obligation to send 5k to charity. In fact....I made it so that I would have to do it either way. I still disagree that we ripped anyone off 100% ....but that doesn't change the fact that on Monday we'll Fedex a check to that charity for 5k. I don't have to agree with SleazyDream......but I will honor my word. No loop holes....no bullshit.....not like some of you guys who like to twist things around and try to interpret everything into the worst possible scenario or assume that everyone is a rip off artist or that everyone is full of shit. |
This whole conversation is fucking stupid. Get back to work everyone!
Flynt is a hero. Sleazy is insane. The ad campaign wasn't intentionally deceiving but I know that even I wondered when I saw it. Otherwise, if you ask me it's enough that his signature is stamped or digitized on the checks... that's still pretty cool. Brad |
Ok Ken, the check should be made out to
"RiverDale Place Homes" 332 Ingolfs St. Box 968 Arborg, Manitoba R0C 0A0 Canada They can even issue you a tax receipt if you like. (I'm not sure if the USA and Canada have registered charity tax agreements but they may and if so you might as well get the tax credit, worth a shot anyway) I'll tell them to expect it, and once it arrives I'll uphold my end of the bargain. I'll post pics of me eating my SleazyDream Hat and I'll get you pics of some of the clients of Riverdale holding up a sign that says "Thank you Cash Quest" |
