Win XP out performs Vista
I am not upgrading until Vista can outperform XP.
It is sad that Microsoft is putting deadlines on computer makers to install Vista on their machines. http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9590_22-6...ml?tag=nl.e550 |
Here is service pack 3 for XP if anybody want to try it out.

I've been pretty satisfied with Vista. Sure some fatal errors pop up now and then, but everyone program I've installed runs smoothly. |

Vista runs faster on a Mac than a PC, that's what is sad.
|
people hated xp at first too, I have had no problems with vista
|
xp it's way better than vista
|
My XP runs awesome, no way I'm upgrading anytime soon.

My daddy can beat your daddy

Did any content producers here donate to the Vista integrated DRM fund?
DRM security flaws initiated in 3... 2... 1... You don't make a secure OS by adding in pointless 'features'. That's just more avenues for exploitation. |
I'll probably only upgrade to Vista once XP updates officially cease. I'm not really that keen on buying new versions of some of my expensive software that work properly with it, or finding that my older hw has no vista driver.

Biggest dis I've heard about Vista is it immediately allocates all of your system memory for itself and then dishes it out to other applications as they need it. For people like many of us who encode and edit videos, that sucks, because instead of needing two gigs of RAM, we need four.
It sucks for developers, too, because it limits what they can write to the registry and what they can write to the Program Files folders for the apps. These are not insurmountable obstacles; developers just have to learn a new way of coding. Doesn't mean they don't bitch about it, though. As for me, I'm sticking with XP pro on my workstation where I edit and encode. I did have to buy a Vista box when I set up a workstation for Webcams. It seems to work okay. Still. I'm hoping it will go the way of Windows ME. Who remembers that certified POS? Kesey Seven We Be Lez |
vista seems to work ok for me

No problems with Vista so far on my new HP laptop. :glugglug

2) Vista will never outperform XP because of DRM and other shit. Furthermore it will never run at least as far as XP does (course if m$ won't issue a special SP to slowdown XP). |
XP is sexy alright........put a pair of tities on that machine and I'll bang it....

Vista came with this laptop and I wont take it off......
but I have upgraded a few desktops before and it never seemed to work well on them, even on well speced machines. Maybe its the upgrade that is the issue. |
32bit stay with XP... 64bit go to Vista... if you are a gamer !
Vista is very stable, however you need a dual core system. Most of the test are using Intel systems and not AMD... Try running XP 32bit on a 64bit system... You can install it, however there are issues... then you say well why not get XP 64bit... right??? ... well XP 64bit is actually a modified MS 2003 server and will not run much of anything... and there are driver issues... So then you say if you are a gamer lets try vista... Now Vista 64bit is far from perfect, however it is hell of a lot more stable then XP... there are some XP video games that will not run and there is not the driver support as of yet, however the alternative is using linux/gui and if you are a gamer such is out of the question !

I don't need no stinking scientists to tell me Vista is a shitty system.

I have heard of that about IE7 back when IE7 was in beta though. Quote:
Of the 5 people that I know with macs that upgraded, 4 of them went back to the old version after just a couple days with the new OS. Quote:
Macs have it easy, they right one set of drivers, because they control what hardware people use, Try putting a different video card into a mac and see how well it works. Windows makes an OS thats supposed to work on an almost unlimited amount of different configurations of hardware. Quote:
Yes Vista will allocate every last bit of ram not being used. Why wouldnt it? RAM that is sitting un used is wasted ram, might as well put it to use. The good thing abotu vista is it actually knows how to properly allocate RAM usage unlike XP. When you render video Vista will give up all the ram the rendering program can use. And of course editors are using 4gb instead of 2 now, why wouldnt they, vista can actually use 4gb unlike XP. 4gb will run slower then 2gb in a vista system. |
Been running Vista pretty hard on my HP laptop for the last 3 months.
Zero complaints. Don't see what all the fuss is about. |
