My experience with Cybersocket.

So.......I'm hanging out at the Cybersocket party in Amsterdam. I've never attended one of their parties or met any of them so I was looking to make some new acquaintances as well as chill with some old ones.

My girl and I made our way up the steps to the bar were she had been patiently waiting as the line slowly advanced. Finally she makes her way to the bar and is still being patient as she waits for the bartender to take her order.

All of a sudden this guy comes sliding in-between her and I. As he moves through, he hands me his business card and gives me a limp wristed half assed handshake. He then proceeds to slide his way in from of my girl and cuts her off from the bar. 1 minute later he steps on my foot as he stumbles away with 3 drinks in his hand and says: "I hope you're enjoying my party."

At this point I'm pretty pissed off at this tool and I decided to look at the business card to see who he is.

Douglas Richter

Mr. Richter, I hope you had a fun night of being rude to the guests at your company's party. I'm sure they appreciate your wise use of their investment, asshole. :321GFY

Tim and Morgan are examples of people to emulate in this business.
You might have mentioned it to them in private if it bothered you overly.

Anyway, they are good peeps:)

I agree..

Here's a little tip: When at a private party, throw the bartender $100 when you get your first drink and tell him/her to take care of you. I guarentee you will not have to wait in a line again...

evildick 10-06-2007 04:23 PM

He was probably just drunk. Unfortunately I act like a dick when I drink too much too, and usually feel horrible about it in the morning.:(

Who?

Never heard of them so I could not be expected to privately do that. Not that I would have anyway.

Aaron, i usually refrain from pointing out the top notch/stand up people, because the practice has been abused to hell. However, i think in this case you just got off on the wrong foot (no pun intended). You also have to take into consideration how jam packed their party was that night, which could explain the sliding inbetween you and your girlfriend. :2cents

Well, I've been waiting for about 2 years now since the first email so maybe mine slipped under the truck seat.

Does that include the ass wiping? This is important.

Well Im with you on this AaronM,

Everyone has had bad days and made themself look stupid, but I think its best done in private and with friends if its in public or at a biz expo you have to suffer the embarassment after...and live with it!

Company parties and events with important possible deal makers are I think a wrong time to act the village clown...

If he did indeed embarrass you Aaron and your girl,he should be named ....the arrrrrrrrrrrr he was drunk is not a great business excuse in my eyes.

Deej 10-06-2007 06:08 PM

You and your lady looked great Aaron...

alright, who am I kidding... she looked great... and you were next to her... :winkwink:

I can't seem to place Douglas, but I know Tim and Morgan the owners of cybersocket very well. I'm sure they will take care of this for you Aaron and will feel bad that someone that works for them offended you and your girlfriend! I know they won't be happy to hear about this. They are always wonderful hosts! :(

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 10-07-2007 12:45 AM

Sounds like you are easily offended...

The dude stops long enough to give you a card, shake your hand, and ask if you are enjoying the party, then proceeds to grab three drinks (presumably at least two are for clients/potential clients, whom he is taking care of), and he inadvertantly steps on your foot (I doubt it was deliberate, and it's quite possible he didn't notice).

I am sure it wasn't intended like it happened.
It was simply nuts at that bar and I got pushed several times and a lot of people "cut in front of me".

The cybersocket guys are top notch and great people. Talk to them, I am sure Douglas will apologize and tell you it wasn't intentional.

quantum-x 10-07-2007 04:45 AM

The bar was a bordel.
In fact, I remember getting cut off, and probably cut someone off also.

Was I the only person who read the start of the thread and thought "Oh shit, was it me who cut him off?"

always works for me:thumbsup

AaronM 10-07-2007 08:10 AM

There are a lot of stupid responses in this thread.

If you represent a sponsor who is throwing the party then you should show more respect to the guests of that party than to do what he did. If he had been some other person and NOT associated directly with the sponsor of the party then I would not have mentioned it at all.

Common courtesy says you don't cut in front of people, chivalry says you don't cut in front of a lady, and from a business aspect you don't cut in front of guests at your own party.

I was not offended. I was pissed off. Primarily at the way he treated my girl.

If you don't get it then you're a bigger tool than Douglas is.

So very true.

Love Tim and Morgan and they are the consumate professionals, and altogether damn fine blokes to boot !

I am quite sure they would be horrified, and would take appropriate action, if any of their people did the wrong thing.

:thumbsup

Apology

I am sorry your first experience with us was negative. Please assure me Douglas will be mortified when he learns of this. I assure you we are normally pretty nice people and well mannered. Sometimes we get a little loopy at these events. However, your point is taken.

We will be doing another party in conjunction with Webmaster Access LA. I hope you and your girlfriend will attend. I look forward to meeting you in person at some future point.

:thumbsup

misunderstanding

morgan, tim, and douglas are some of the nicest and most professional people in the business. they always go out of their way to take care of and look out for their guests, whether they are clients or not.

it was probably just a misunderstanding. it sounds like the event was very chaotic and crowded. we all know how hard it can be to get drinks under those circumstances.

i'm just guessing, but if morgan used any clout to get to the front of the line to get drinks, he was probably actually getting drinks for guests he was talking to. i doubt that it was a selfish case of cutting.

also - once anyone has had a few drinks, it can be easy to accidentally cut someone off without even realizing it.

you should be sure to talk to morgan and the CS crew next time you see them - cuz you'll find out how nice they actually are.

:-)
