Fucking Windows Vista Nightmare
*Cliff Notes - Vista sucks, don't buy a computer with Vista, insist on XP*
So I get a new quad core box that comes with Vista, no option to get XP with it. I uninstall the Norton shit, because it's annoying, keeps popping up shit that "needs my attention" I turn around to my main computer and all of a sudden I hear the hard drive spinning on the Vista box....it's rebooting....but now it won't boot up. WTF? It didn't come with an OS disk or a recovery disk, it has a separate partition on the main drive with the recovery stuff. I figure since I have the recovery stuff there and I've lost my data anyways, I'll install XP on this machine cause that'll be better all the way around. Well XP doesn't have a driver for the ethernet and some PCI shit...so I can't connect to the internet. There are no XP drivers online either, so I'm fucked, I have to go back to Vista. But now I can't access the partition with the Vista info. XP can't read that part of the drive....I boot up with a CD and delete the XP partition, and now I can't get the machine to boot up at all. So I had to pay $30 for overnight shipping on a recovery CD from HP, and wait until tomorrow for it to get here. Not to mention I've lost several days worth of video encoding work. Here's a big :321GFY to microshit |

Sucks... I had a few problems first few days... but everything is running nice and clean for me now...
I've noticed the 32 bit to be much more stable than 64 if it helps at all.. |

it seems people that have problems with vista arent the brightest people when it comes to operating systems, just my opinion..
vista runs perfectly for me. |

Go fuck yourself |
doesnt give any error? try spamming f8 right as the bios is done loading..
vista uses the same recovery system as XP did |

That may not seem big to you but it sure was to me :2 cents: |
Well, such stories are one of the reasons why I prefer to do a clean install of system by myself when I get a new computer.

Why I started building my own about 7-8 years ago. Clones come with too much shit know one will ever use. Putting the recovery as a separate partition is just retarded. Guess it saves them 50 cents by not including a disk.
Been running vista x64 ultimate since release day, 0 problems. |
OP, your situation is hardly a reason to blame Vista, I would blame the user, and then I would quess it was a hardware reason for the no boot.
But then again, not being able to find an XP driver and only a vista driver.... please do tell what hardware this is for, as I wasnt aware there was any hardware that was vista only, besides DX10 video cards, and even then they have XP drivers, just cant use DX10. I chaulk this up to user error. Quote:

Hi Lenny2
It sounds like an issue with your bios or that you had partitions on your harddrive that the new vista ntfs did not like. check your harddrive partitions then check your bios (cmos). If you are over clocking your system, you might get the same issue. I hope your drive did not die on you.

Forget buying new pcs at top dollar, it's better to get a refurbed Win XP system from the Dell Outlet online or on ebay with Win XP. It will be half or one third of the price as a new custom configured system online from one of the big pc makers. Or have someone build a pc for you configured as you like.
|
Seriosly i agree with you!! i've never been so freiken frustrasted with an op system..i'm ready to throw it out the window!!
|
sounds like a fun situation
|

A lot of people now are running 64 bit systems and require a 64 bit version of Windows XP or Windows Vista. If for some reason you put a 32 bit version on your 64 bit system... you will find that you will not have full power of your system and you will most likely will need Windows XP 64 bit version to take advantage of your 64 bit system. If you play 3d games and you want to run Windows 64 bit version you should know its base is Windows Server 2003 and it will not run your games for the most part... If you play games on your system you will need to "upgrade" to Windows Vista...
Just thought you would like to know... Later, . |
in my experience vista is one big honkning piece of shit
|
I'm sticking with XP for as long as i can. Can't be bothered with the hassle i would maybe have with Vista.
I know some people haven't had any problems with it at all though... |
I had the same problem with a Thinkpad I just bought. Tech Support told me to start from scratch, which I did and loaded the OS from the hidden partitian. All works well now. Some times those pre-installed installations just aren't right and starting from scratch works out the bugs. I reclaimed an additional 2 GB of space on the hard drive, too.
Make sure you clean our your prefetch, temp, and %temp% folders. Also take a look in your StartUp Configuration and disable any programs that you don't need. When you start from scratch you'll have the option to install Norton or not, too. I've grown to like Vista, but I wouldn't upgrade an XP system, only use Vista on a clean startup. |
vista sucks!!!!!! seriously. i cant connect to wifi using vista. damn that sucks!!!! wtf!!!!!
ms is a fool to release vista.. ill use vista maybe after 3 years. |
Kind of need a new puter, but this makes me want to wait till some bugs are fixed.
