So I get a new quad core box that comes with Vista, no option to get XP with it.

I uninstall the Norton shit, because it's annoying, keeps popping up shit that "needs my attention"

I turn around to my main computer and all of a sudden I hear the hard drive spinning on the Vista box....it's rebooting....but now it won't boot up. WTF?

It didn't come with an OS disk or a recovery disk, it has a separate partition on the main drive with the recovery stuff.

I figure since I have the recovery stuff there and I've lost my data anyways, I'll install XP on this machine cause that'll be better all the way around.

Well XP doesn't have a driver for the ethernet and some PCI shit...so I can't connect to the internet. There are no XP drivers online either, so I'm fucked, I have to go back to Vista.

But now I can't access the partition with the Vista info. XP can't read that part of the drive....I boot up with a CD and delete the XP partition, and now I can't get the machine to boot up at all.

So I had to pay $30 for overnight shipping on a recovery CD from HP, and wait until tomorrow for it to get here. Not to mention I've lost several days worth of video encoding work.

Here's a big :321GFY to microshit

HOLY SHIT

I am going through the EXACT same thing as you right now

FUCK

no drivers for ANYTHING

I am going tomorrow to get a usb to network cable adapter and see if I can use it to fix it

brand new computer sitting here, dumped vista, nothing works

Redrob 08-21-2007 11:02 PM

I think I'm going back to Win 3.0 and O'Reilly's Website 1.0....life was easier.

Hey if it's an HP we found a shitload of drivers online today that should work. Hit me on ICQ if you want the links.

I managed to get Vista up and running again though.
Apparently when XP sets up a partition on the HD it leaves 8MB of unused space, and Vista did not like this.
I deleted the NTFS partition altogether and rebooted, and the system recovery part of the hard drive took over on restart and reinstalled everything.

So I still lost all my installed programs and almost a week's worth of video encoding just because I wanted to uninstall norton, but at least I'm up and running again.

well, I have xp up and running, but NOTHING is recognized...well, nothing of importance anyway, and I can't get online with it to find anything

and all the components are so new there are no xp drivers on any of the manufacturers websites for them

it is an acer btw

XP was working fine for me until it started giving me the BSOD (blue screen of death)....... so I decided to go for Vista ...... but now I can't install my mp3lame codec...... there are always problems.. one way or the other...

Vista is fucked, should have never been released to the public, it's costing people A LOT OF MONEY, much more than what Microshit earns in revenue from its Vista product.

When Microshit makes a billion, the American public loses another ten.

This company sucks so bad.

ugghhhh...guezz i uill hav to delay inztalling...

V_RocKs 08-22-2007 05:29 AM

Vista sucks.

What this proves is that if you buy hardware certified for Vista then it does NOT mean that XP will also work. That's the logic gap. You bought a new machine and then wanted to use an older operating system it wasn't designed for -- and then you bitch about it. Get a fucking clue. I'd like to get my old 5.25 inch floppy drives to work on XP, but can I do that? Fuck no. BIOS' haven't supported that drive type in years.

Assumptions suck.

Good to hear you got your system up again.

It would be a good idea as to backup your videos on a different harddrive and or DVD...

Very Well Put...... same thing happened to me with vista.. I "assumed" the hardware would be "backward compatible" ... some things are .. and some don't...

I guess as long as I can submit my galleys I'll be fine......

Dude, the missing driver was for the network adapter. Has there been some massive breakthrough in home networking technology in the past 12 months that I'm unaware of?

Also, I wasn't bitching because XP didn't work, I was bitching because the built in vista recovery wouldn't work, and I was without an operating system period.

Some of us have lives and don't spend all of our time in our mother's basement taking apart our computers. Get over yourself.

it more like " asta la VISTA baby " grrrrr " i'll be back ...... "

Microsoft made a public statement that they will NOT be releasing DX10 for XP.

I would like you to explain how its costing people money please.
Also from your post, you would be a hypocrite to be using any MS software.

split_joel 08-23-2007 01:50 AM

To blame Microsoft Vista for your HP recovery partition not working is very funny or so I think. Anyways even if it was a fault on microsofts part which I highly doubt, you are a moron not to expect something like this to happen.

Microsoft releases every operating system before its ready for one main reason... They make money off the support given to people like you.

:pimp

With that line of thinking I could argue that 8-track tapes should work in CD players because speaker technology hasn't changed in the past 12 months.
