what do you think it will really change? It may make us feel better but somebody else will take his place. Not to mention the 'splinters' who aren't really connected other than getting their inspiration from the 'big boys'.

High Plains Drifter 06-08-2006 12:08 AM

I saw it on ABC but I can't find it online anywhere, even the AP Breaking wire. Kinda weird.

Vegas give you good odds when you took the Terrorists?

edgeprod 06-08-2006 12:13 AM

Huh. I just saw it on ABC. I thought you were bullshitting, but they say he's dead.

It's odd that it isn't ANYWHERE else, but I can confirm 100% that ABC is reporting it. 3:13am EST here.

I know what he means, and if you don't think two or three more al-Zarqawi's will pop up tomorrow, you're sorely mistaken.

This isn't a video game, where when you kill the boss it's game over. All that happens is more pissed off Arabs.

It definitely helps troop morale. Also, he was the leader in several attacks against the US and is now dead. He was the leader and main conspirator of these attacks. You kill the leader it does have a trickle down effect.

madawgz 06-08-2006 12:28 AM

He is the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, he has been there since we drove him out of Afghanistan, of course some people in the USA want you to think that Al Qaeda didnt exist in Iraq but this man was proof they were there before the USA invaded. The man is pure evil did a ton of beheadings.

Here's some stuff picked up from BBC London...

Quote:

Zarqawi dead, say Iraqi reports
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki is about to announce that militant leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been killed, Iraqi state television reports.

The leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq is considered the figurehead of the Sunni insurgency.

Al-Qaeda has been blamed for scores of bombings that have killed hundreds of Shias and US forces in Iraq.

The Jordanian-born fugitive appeared in a video recording earlier this year, reproaching the US for its "arrogance".
Let's see if it's for real this time...

Iraqi PM confirms Zarqawi death
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki has announced that militant leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has been killed.

The Jordanian-born leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq is considered the figurehead of the Sunni insurgency. Reports say he was killed in an air raid near Baghdad.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq has been blamed for scores of bombings that have killed hundreds of Shias and US forces.

Zarqawi appeared in a video earlier this year, in which he reproached the US for its "arrogance and insolence".

The BBC's Andrew North in Baghdad says that if the reports are proved to be true it will be seen as a very significant moment in the fight against the insurgency, especially as it comes early in the life of Mr Maliki's government.
Next.... let's see how real it is...
