Important MoviePass Summary

Yes, they (Epic/Pornkings/etc) are aware of Moviepass' operation and Terms. It's not a virus or spyware or adware. It's basically just nagware, that can easily be uninstalled without requiring you pay anything.

So what's the big deal?

Yes, they are using it on their exits. Surfers are well aware that it is being installed on their computers without needing to read the Terms. Those who do not read the terms will miss that it will auto-update and start hitting them with a lot of popups requesting they pay for the yearly license fee. However, as mentioned previously it is EASY to uninstall.

polish_aristocrat 05-23-2006 11:19 AM

so looks like you changed your opinion on the whole thing?

Pure Evil 05-23-2006 11:21 AM

How do you know that it is easy to uninstall? To the best of my knowledge NO ONE has reverse engineered or decompiled the program to see exactly what it does. So, basically, no one has the slightest clue what the software does to your PC.

If what media says is true, I don't see why not. My opinion apparently was misinformed. No one else seemed to be saying it plainly I guess, preferring to argue in roundabout ways.

If media is correct, wouldn't you agree it's no big deal then?

Media said he EASILY uninstalled it on 4 different PCs I believe, without having to pay a dime.

dissipate 05-23-2006 11:22 AM

I still wouldn't touch moviepass with a 10 foot pole. It's not worth pissing off my surfers.

Sosa 05-23-2006 11:23 AM

anything that popups stupid bs popups on a sufers computer is bad for us.

xxxice 05-23-2006 11:24 AM

Please inform me then as I do not know. Am I wrong to think if you do not uninstall the software in three days you get pops until you pay and can not remove the program; it continues to run on your computers startup?

First, how do you know that it didn't leave a background app running? Second, what copy of moviepass software did he install (did moviepass "provide" him with a copy to test or did he just find a copy from a random link)? There are alot of questions here that haven't been answered and even though I like media, I want to find out the truth for myself.

This is the whole point. It may be easy for Media to uninstall it but who says that means its easy for a surfer from Turkey, or a surfer from Thailand, or anyone that is new to computers that doesn't even understand how to add and remove things from the control panel.

The point is that this kinda software is bad for overrall industry business. It pisses surfers off. It leaves them with a bad taste in their mouth about joining sites which in turn may stop them from joining your site next.

I just feel that this is just another way for people to make quick easy money without worrying about whats right and wrong.

Also what happens if you try to uninstall after the three days?

Sly 05-23-2006 11:34 AM

How much money is made per install? That is one thing I haven't noticed. Is it like 20 cents or something stupid like that?

Actually it was 3 computers, 2 different ip's, I uninstalled it 4 days after install with no problems. There were two main components, the video downloader, and the billing agent. These were uninstalled successfully, I ran a copy of microsoft anti spyware, and did a scan with Hijack this, nothing was found when I did this... So in my book I count that as a successful install... Which lead me to the decision to allow the ad to be placed on our exits from the marketing firm who prepaid for our exits on a term that we will follow through on until we can determine that there is more than meets the eye...

Texas Dreams also reported similar results to me when I asked him about his test...

Pure Evil, I obtained the software from the site and downloaded it, they did not send me any install...

And 100's if not 1000's of other people who have HUGE problems uninstalling it are all talking out of their asses. Just like the washingpost and other websites.

You fucking moron.

xxxice 05-23-2006 11:38 AM

Who is the marketing firm ?

Dirty F 05-23-2006 11:39 AM

I should make poll.

Who do you believe?

media - Who is making good money off them
1000's of other people who complaint about the software being very hard to get rid off.

Fair enough. Then, I'll dissect the DL on their site.

Pure Evil 05-23-2006 11:47 AM

Ok, hold on here. In order to DL the installer from Moviepass.tv, it asks for your Credit Card #. Is this correct or am i missing something?

Yes it does.

But they fuck around a lot

People who go straight to the domain get anotherdownload page than people sent by webmasters.

They also redirect firefox traffic as its useless to them because they cant install ransomware on it.

Just yesterday 2 people confirmed that their puter was hijacked and they couldnt get rid of it.

Everybody but media has problems with them. What a surprise that media is the one making money of them.

He's a fucking moron for still claiming they dont install nasty shit. A total fucking moron.

You fucking moron.

Franck .. take it easy. I agree with you on this and I feel its wrong. But don't start acting like jimthefiend and pimpdog where you just start swearing and calling names.

Stick to business and acting professional. You have brought up some great points and made some great statements. Don't bring yourself down to their level with the name calling and crap. :thumbsup

Keep fighting the good fight mate.

King Adam 05-23-2006 11:58 AM

Media ... you said you scanned your computer with MS Anti Spy Ware and it found nothing. Have you tested other SPyWare/Adware programs. I'm sure not all people use MS Spy Ware products.

Just curious.

Hmmm....Brujah has a new opinion?
Maybe we can get smokeys results...to TD's results....someone who is not so easily influenced by the $$ perhaps?

Wouldn't that just SUCK for Franck???

You fucking moron.

Franck, you are a fucking moron in your own right too you know that?

I could send you hundreds if not thousands of complaints from people who say their charges from paycom, ccbill, netbilling, etc.. etc.. are fucking scam and fraud and such as well, I could make a website out of those and make them look realllllllly bad.... when the reality is they are authorization charges to check to see if the funds are there for when they rebill, but they still think it's an actual charge... but that is a part of the business we have people who are not too smart that you have to hold their hands and help them figure out where the problem lays....

So your whole "oh the poor thousands" that also applies to actual website billing as well.. so go kick rocks man... why don't you keep your fucking mouth shut until someone actually PROVES something and brings it to us, rather than you trying to drag US through the dirt, go drag Webmaster Direct through the dirt... after we get solid findings, and not stupid surfers, then we can all take the necissary measures from there to decide what is going to happen.

I would like to see the results of a few people. However, the fact that there are news releases about it and the problems that people are having, well that HAS to be recognized as well.

If there was no truth to what Franck was saying, I highly doubt there would be so much discussion here on GFY and on other publications. I'm not saying one thing is true or not yet .. just saying that we need to see more detailed results from multiple sources.

Don't try to fucking back pedal now.....i am waiting patiently also.. as we have been crucified for days.....if this is not what everyone thinks it is...there will be major repercussions.....

King Adam 05-23-2006 12:06 PM

And I just started reading the TERMS on the site. Jesus holy mother of Mary.

What surfer hunting down porn because they are horny and wants to beat off would ever take the time to read all that. Its almost as if MoviePass knows surfers won't read the fine print so they know by numbers that they'll make good money in the long run of the dumb fucks that don't read it.

You are starting to reach now...aren't you??

How many terms have YOU ever read of programs you sign up with yourself??

Pure Evil 05-23-2006 12:14 PM

Ok, so why doesn't someone post a link to DL the "free" version of the software?

How am I trying to back pedal here. I said I want to see some results about the details of this.

Regardless, I still do not approve of using a program that "tricks" a surfer into paying more money than they thought they would. Or the use of software that may be intalled on their computer becasue they are not that computer savy and don't realize what they are doing. I feel thats taking advantage of un-educated people.

Out of the adult sites I've joined, probably just about all of them. Most of them are also much shorter than the ones on Movie Pass and there is not as much fine print.

Whats your point on this one anyway? Does it make it right or wrong if I read the long terms that a site has?

Its about knowing that most people are not going to read all that info and because of that, some people/companies might take advantage of that fact.
