American vs British response to the terrorist attacks
As an American in london who witnessed the hysteria around the bombings that happened today I remember the anger we americans felt when 9-11 happened and the scenes happening on every channel are pissing everyone off to the point that they will demand something be done in response.
First of all there is no way that the English people would be dumb enough to let their government lie them into some totally unrelated conflict in a totally unrelated country where a bunch of the prime minister's buddies happen to make billions off the deal. (See the deal inked yesterday between Haliburton and US military worth 5 billion..one is a series of similar deals) 4 years after 9-11 al quaida is stronger than ever. We havent gotten the guys that did the deed. But the gov parlayed the fear that the event caused into making lots of folks many billions. Shit pisses me off.. Will be interesting the difference in the English administration's response....if it can withstand the lure of the massive potential for financial gain that has become available to them throiugh now. They've seen america do it..and do it well...make money from fear that is...while totally ignoring and actually fueling the fire of the real problem. The hard won sheep mentality that the US conservatives have spent years cultivating with the american media dosent exist in england so pulling the wool over the eyes of the Brits would be tough. My guess is they will do a better job...might even get the guys... and use 1/10000 the resources we are using in iraq to do it. |
yeah, just see how quick blair makes a new alliance with bush and the US.......because they need our help of course.

I hope you're not serious.

The response will be like what Spains response was.
|
I like this contrast of responses:
QUEEN Elizabeth II said she was "deeply shocked" by a wave of terrorist attacks on London underground trains and a bus, and sent her sympathy to those affected. Meanwhile, US President George W. Bush said Thursday the London blasts showed the war on terrorism must continue. "The war on terrorism is on," Mr Bush told reporters on the sidelines of the Group of Eight summit here. Bush is a classic :) |

dont we already have alliances considering we mutually support action and make up the majority of forces in Iraq and Afghanistan? |

ONe fair point made after was its a shame London and londoner's have been targeted as its arguably the most tolerant, multicultural cities in the world yet it targeted for a cultural grievence/war |

should we all just be "shocked" about terrorist attacks instead of fighting terrorism? |

IN the quote on TV here he didnt (bush) have much to say about the UK, only that he was telling state leader to be on alert. You could say insensitive, butthen that could be down to editing. |

Gotta love the news
BBC London says there are at least 2 people killed, but a U.S. law enforcement official says there are at least 40 people killed. Big difference. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050707/...NlYwMlJVRPUCUl |

...as for what will happen after todays bombs....not a lot really...worked in London during the height of the Irish bombing campaigns and had a couple of close calls but truth is we all got used to it, basically London has been a bomb target since the early seventies so not exactly new territory..although its been reported that some 'security people' are nostalgic over the Irish bombing campaign as it was easier to deal with! As for needing American 'help' er yeah right..just what we need :thumbsup |

Spains reaction came because it forced voters to pick a government that was anti war, we dont have an election comming up for 4 years, and both our two parties are for the war, so anyone who wasnt a complete fool would know there is a difference |

however BlueDesignStudios found something "classic" about Bush's response, and I wanted to know what it was. last time I checked, Bush WAS one of those politicians you're talking about. |
