4 years after 9-11 al quaida is stronger than ever. We havent gotten the guys that did the deed. But the gov parlayed the fear that the event caused into making lots of folks many billions.

so far there are 33 deaths confirmed...

Sarah_Jayne 07-07-2005 07:55 AM

you aren't starting with the same base...the 9/11 stuff came out of the blue...this in part of the same fight in the eyes of people that are fighting it so there isn't going to be a big war launched in addition to what is going on. The British have more experience with being bombed and London in particular..people will largely brush it off but I do think we are in place for a major overhaul of Underground security.

Well the BBC have more of a responsibility to the British public than the US law enforcement and they are only going to report offical numbers. Part of the problem with things like CNN, Fox News, etc is they speculate too much.

I'm not so sure about the security in the underground being overhauled, I doubt much will change if anything. Apart from maybe some politition may get more backing for I.D cards

The base i'm refering to is mainly the cultural difference between the two societies and administrations. I wasnt here in london when the ramp up to the iraqi invasion was going on. But i dont think it was done in a massive media campaign of contrived patriotism and fear to get the public to go along with it.
From what i saw back then it appeared most of the public was against sending troops but Blair just pulled the right strings and made it happen anyway. The majority of the US public just ate it all up...the WMD's..yellow cake uranium from Nigeria...Al quaida meeting with Sadaam Hussien etc
What i mean is i just dont that it could happen here in the UK for a few reasons...i mean public support for it based on BS that is believed out of fear and getting amped on patriotism.

You cant beet bobbies on the beat, its one of the big things that has gone wrong in the country over the last 20 years. We all know seeing a policeman walking around stops crime and makes people feel safer

Bush "Let us take you're rights away to protect your freedom. Don't be anti American and do what you're told. I didn't win my presidency by the majority of the people, I wont by a judgement of the court. I'm your president, if you're religious, conservative, politically aggressive, but socially passive. Are you with me?"

no thanks :pimp

There were terrorists hijackings, attacks, kidnappings, etc. long before Bush, and they will exist loooooooooong after. Whether it's arabs, or some other militant group, there will always be a group of fucked up people who are unhappy and willing to kill innocent people for their cause. That's just the way it is. It's always been like that all around the world.
