Who is into car audio? (Not lamers... serious folks)
Hey there. I got a new car that I want to put some money into audio wise.
Not a LOT, and NOT tons of bass. I want an all around pleasent sounding system. I have had my share of stupidly loud systems and for this car I just want something that has a nice kick to it but that doesnt beat the shit out of my ears. I am thinking of getting an eclipse deck, amp and speakers. But I want to hear from you guys what you would do instead. I haven't been in audio for over a year now so bear with me. :) |
I'm not into it right now but want to get a serious system soon. I spend a lot of time in my car so a nice system would be worth while.
|
I have a stock cassette players that I rock out on! :thumbsup
Did I mention my 2 4"s in the back thump'n, yo? |

Mini: Thats why I don't want a crazy expensive system or a big bass system. I just want a nice cozy sound.
Also, Eclipse head units can not be reinstalled if stolen. You need a CD key. Any real thief knows this. Besides if it is stolen eclipse sends you a new one. Me and my friend figured out a way to get it out without powering it down and thus keeping it unlocked. But it takes awhile and is very tricky. |
I got a couple Alpine Type R dual voice coil 10" subs for sale. Brand new. Got 4 of them but the box I got wouldn't fit them all :( so they have just been sitting in their boxes for over a year now.
|
Im not sure what your definition of stupidly loud is but what i got in my ride is 1 12" Kicker L7 and a fosgate 1000.1 D class amp pushing it.
It can hit stupidly loud levels where people in the cars around you can feel it but that doesnt mean you have to listen to it that loud... As for the deck, i think you've made a good choice there already :thumbsup |
Brad, I am currently adding systems in my cars aswell. In my 2002 Jeep Laredo Limited has a really nice system. I will be adding a full custom enclosure that will take up about the whole back area. In my 2000 dakota which I recently bought I have a alpine head in there and 2 mtx 12' subs in the back seats. I will be buying an amp this week. Im not looking for anything too loud so i think I will go with just 800 watts. In my 2002 323 it already has premium sound. No subs in that baby.

What do you guys think. For my truck I already have a decent head unit. Before I sold one of my old cars I took out my sony xplod head unit. Do you guys think I should switch the unit from my truck to the xplod one? Im thinking about it.. I mean the truck is red... and the sony head unit text lights up red so it will match lightly.. I don't know..:2 cents:

Eclipse is garbage. Buy Alpine.
|
i've got a 12 speaker bose system in my 911 (it was a factory upgrade from the normal system). sounds great, but i don't know much about car audio.
|
ive got a 10" rockford sub with some rockford speakers that i got off ebay. Im gonna add a 2nd amp cuz non amplified speakers are pretty dull (cant amplify my speakers with the current 2 channel mono amp i have). It nowhere near crazy but its decent bang for the buck..My deck cost more then everything else put together (jvc kd-ar7000). i had a tape deck and wanted a cd player..got one and couldnt keep the stock cpeakers cuz my new deck didnt work with the stock 3 ohm speakers, so had to change those. So while i was at it i tossed in a sub. All i really wanted was a radio, but once u start u might as well swap the rest to make it sound right.
What i really want is a compustar alarm and car starter..waiting for the car to heat up in the winter is a bug out. |
clarion deck with infiti kappa speakers

Wes I think we're going to be best friends. |
I would just get a nice component set like Dynaudio or Phoenix Gold Ti Elites (made by Morel) run off a couple hundred watts, and bass if you want just enough to match the fronts, one ten would probably do it. I like the Type Rs, but there's tons of good subs out there. I prefer Pioneer head units, Alpines are good but I don't like the way they look.

Try stereoconection.ca
|
my good friend from highschool has put quite a lot into his, his can go upto 5000 watts now, no one has tried to break into his car yet. its fucking loud :)
|
I got a 2300 Watt Lightning Audio 15" in the back of my Grand Cherokee pushing it is a Rockford 1500BD
Broke the rearview mirror off and cracked a upside "U" LOL whoops. |

Last one was an Alpine 7949 Deck (Which smoked any Eclipse product in sound quality and frequency response) with an Alpine DSP joined AI-net via fibre. Precision Power ProMOS-50 Amps, JL Audio 3 X 12W6 subs, Alpine competition seperates (Cant remember the model for the life of me) front and rear. I'll admit it's been a few years for me, so maybe things have changed somewhat. |
did you buy another CIVIC?

Definitely be sure to include a subwoofer, makes a huge difference. Also Dynamat, every vehicle I buy I always Dynamat the whole car.
|
I run an alpine MP3 deck, with 2 alpine amps. For speakers I have the 6 pro boston acoustics in the front, and MB Quartz in the back with a single 12" boston acoustics sub woofer. My pro Boston Acoustics mids kept blowing in the back, so I went with the MUCH more expensive MB Quartz. Those MB Quartz are sweet. Also lined the entire bottom of the car with Dynamat. Entire system was around $5k.
My next setup is gonna be a 200 gig harddrive setup with wifi, so I can load MP3's off my computer when my car is in the garage. Skip the CD (MP3 or Audio) completely. |
These kick ass for front speakers http://www.cdtaudio.com/eurosport_zseries.htm i've had em, sold em, now want to get them again :)
For the sub, one of these would sound really nice http://www.adireaudio.com/TextPages/...eFrameText.htm with a properly tuned custom box. |
eclips and kicker should be not bad in us
|
I dont really know what to tell you about the deck, but I have a W7 13.5 setup.

alpine is the way to go... they make some really good head units...

Nice posts in here guys thanks.
I am pretty sold on the deck and speakers brand wise. Now I just have to figure out what size sub to get and where to put it. (I do my own installs too... done probably 10 between mine and my friends. Not a lot but I can get around.) I am thinking one 10. Maybe an alpine. I had alpine type r (gay name I know) a few years ago and those ROCKED! But I had 12s Grrrr now I am planning to spend 2k on stereo when I didn't want to spend a penny. :1orglaugh |

Those subs pound ...they work in real small enclosures and are great for the audiophile. :2 cents: |
infinity or polk mids, JL audio w-7's for subs and for amps go with an old model fosgate
|
Everyone is bragging about the JLs lately... I always considered them walmart brand. Are they decent for midrange bass? I don't want crazy boomage.
|
JL's are awsome subs theres a reason why everyone likes them
