Why can?t people come up with an original design or at least be a little less obvious when they completely rip off someone else?s wok? When we started out 5 years ago had a few copycat sites and it really irked me. I took it as somewhat of a compliment but mainly as a slap in the face. Check for yourself do these look the same to you?

In case this wasn?t a really poor attempt to blatantly rip off Naughty Allie?s site and Kayla hired the same 5th grader to come up with such a complex design, I?ll apologize in advance for jumping to conclusions!

what a ridiculous thread - we're talking basic design layouts here that are literally on 10,000 sites, more than 10,000 - ....... there are only so many ways to use HTML tables to do a layout using no images as borders or backgrounds.

in an industry where 80% of people steal content and tons steal wholesale designs including graphics you pick this as your cause celebre?

i remember seeing jake freak out and call someone out as a theif and go on and on and on about it for someone using a table like his before. he fucking blew up and nearly lost his mind, it was some funny shit.

It applies to the web too. if it can be done it has been done, if a layout or design can be done you can bet it is out there. get over yourself thinking you are the only person who could create something like that and focus on making the site unique with what you put inside the framework.

I've heard that phrase, and it's usually said by people who rip off others and have no origanal thoughts. Just so you know I didn't create it, it's not my site, and as for my own sites I pay designers to design something somewhat original, not take someone elses design and call it their own because they change the background color!

I?ve been sitting back ignoring your baseless claims and smart assed remarks for the last several months. Why don?t we just let everyone know the motive behind you comments:

Digipimp sends Allie an e-mail last year stating that he was interested in promoting her site. He requests a UN/PW to the site for purpose of ?review?. Allie gives him a 30-day pass and at the end of the month guess who?s back asking for another pass. This goes on for 5 consecutive months.

He then sends Allie a request for ?special? content for a ?high traffic site? because he can?t seem to find what he needs from the 50+ downloadable zips in our affiliate area. At this point she asks for his affiliate ID and the URL for this ?high traffic site?. This is his reply:

?This is my affiliate ID I believe XXXXXX as far as a link to the site I'm not really allowed to say what the site is until after it's launched probably. I got the links from the guy who owns it and I don't know that he wants me telling people about the deal. I can just say that's it's huge, it's being redesigned for relaunch in early February and should be advertised on TV, magazines an the internet obviously. I hope you can understand, I hate not being able to tell but I really shouldn't say. If that's not alright with you I totally understand.? (For clarification, this is Feb 2004 that he?s talking about and his e-mail was sent in Jan 28, 2004)

So, against her better judgment she spends half the day getting him what he has requested. Bottom line, a month later she looks up the affiliate ID he gave her and he has sent exactly 3 clicks to the program and 0 sales. At that point it?s quite obvious he?s just spent the last 6 months jerking off to the site and who the hell knows what he did with the ?special content? that Allie spent half the day getting ready for him?

Anyway, at that point Allie stops renewing his UN/PW to the site and I pull his macpimps banner from the resource page at NaughtyBank. Ever since then, this clown never misses an opportunity to throw in some BS comment every chance he gets.

Digipimp - please do us all a favor and post the URL to this ?site that looked just like Allie's site but came out before her site did? If you're going to come on a public forum and imply that we took the design from another site at least have the common courtesy to post some evidence of your claim or else STFU and let the grown-ups get back to work!

When Allie started her website our biggest concern with theft was that some zit faced 18y/o kid in Estonia would steal her content and/or the entire site and call it their own.

Call it naiveté if you like, but it has come as a huge surprise that the biggest threat of theft has come from other amateur girl sites. We?ve seen this time and time again! What seems even more surprising to me is that in most cases, such as this one, we?ve actually met the girl face-to-face at a webmaster event.

For anyone who say?s, ?what?s the big deal? or ?it?s just basic html? you?re sadly missing the point. If a designer were to spend the day combining, optimizing, manipulating, and slicing a series of images into a single graphic it would be considered theft if someone came along and took the graphic for use on their own site. Say they changed the border color of the graphic, it?s still theft plain and simple!

It?s no different when Allie spends the entire day adjusting cell spacing, cell padding, border sizes, cell alignment, font size, etc. in order to get the layout just as she wants it. Please don?t bother citing copyright laws or the DMCA because it would be fruitless to engage in a legal discussion on this topic here.

Whether or not it would be considered theft from a legal perspective is completely irrelevant anyway. The point here is that in both scenarios someone stole a full days work from someone else because they were too fucking lazy to do it themselves!

Kayla, you may want to at least change the tr bordercolor="6666cc" tag to something that fits your purple color scheme a little better. Allie used 6666cc because she thought that dark blue looked good against the light blue background of her table. In your case, I don?t think that the dark blue color looks so good against your purple background. That?s just my opinion though!

Unfortunately Jake that's the way the biz world works and probably always will. You're a smart guy so you already know that and yeah being in that position sometimes sucks. Someone always has to be the originator and then someone always takes what you have and uses it to make something better or sometimes hell they just keep it the same I guess. That's how it always works, yeah it sucks to be the person who doesn't get credit for being the original sometime or what sucks even more is to be the person with the original idea and never make any money on it only to have someone copy it and get rich with a little tweak or nothing at all.

And I still haven't received an ICQ or email from you if you want to see the work you said I was lying about.
