George Forman grillers... a few questions for you
Some of you own one. I just got one for christmas, any tips?
I remember someone saying that doing burgers on them isn't all that great. Is there any trick to making better burgers with it? LMK. |
don't use crappy hambuger meat use ground sirloin or the best stuff you can find... also get some good steak seasoning I like McCoricks grill mates.. like Spicy montreal steak...
Pick out some nice buns from the bakery section of your local store and not wonder bread... maybe some nice soft French roll style... add any other toppings of your choice.. as it dosn't matter how you cook the bugers it's how you prepare it.. |
My ex-husband is a body builder. If it can be cooked on a GF grill, I've done it. :winkwink:
For burgers- just don't make them too thick. You can make them as wide as you want, but try to keep them fairly flat. Also, you can flip them even though you supposedly don't need to. Sprinkle some Cavenders on them for seasoning if you're into that. Fajitas are good, too. Just chop your steak/chicken into strips, slice up all your veggies, and you can do it all on the grill. Put your shells on last. |
burgers tend to be rather dry..
tip: pour all the grease that collects in the tray back onto the burger. LOL.. They make killer Grilled Cheseses though, and it does an awesome job grilling boneless chicken breasts.. |
I've noticed the top plate cooks slightly faster than the bottom plate. Could just be me tho

2. Throw it out and buy a proper Lodge cast iron grill pan. Oh wait, do you live in the ghetto? |
my tip is for cleaning - when you are done cooking take a paper towel, wet it and throw it on the hot grill and use the plastic tong thingies to move it around. Most of the junk will come off right away.

Cooking vegetables in them is really good and fast. With burgers always make your own burgers from good meat.
|
I marinate the fuck out of everything and just throw it on. S'gud.
|
I always use extra lean ground beef, and am a scientist when it comes to spices and combinations of flavors.
Jimmy --- no, I don't live in a ghetto. Explain why you hate these grills so much. Thanks. Sarah, thanks for the cleaning tip. I'll try it. |
wet cloths work a lot better, u know those j-cloths?? then u can just wash them with soap, don't have to waste paper towels..:thumbsup

The existence and use of these grills clearly illustrates the difference between cooking and heating up food. - We cook food to make it taste better, we use thermodynamics and chemistry to turn raw food into something more, something artistic. - We heat food up to kill the germs. Decide which you do and buy the proper tools. |
Well, I agree about cooking over fire, definitely. My barbecue get's a very vigorous workout for most of the year, trust me on that. However, if you can imagine the kind of winter we get up here in Canukistan at all you'd know why I might choose to try some alternate ways of cooking certain foods.
I never use only one means or method of cooking anything, I'm not saying that at all. Having one of these gadgets or any other for that matter would be for a diversion from time to time only. And at $179 bucks for the top model I think it's probably a bit more than the average ghetto-dweller can afford. |

$1 says you got one, but are just too fucking stupid to figure out how to use it. :Graucho |

You can buy the Rolls-Royce of proper cast iron grill pans for $35!!! I WISH I was as well versed in the ignorance of consumers to have thought up the George Foreman grill! |

marinated chicken owns on the grill :)
|
i just bought a GF a few weeks ago and its great for grilled chicken...although ist a pain in the ass to clean
:2 cents: |
kind of silly thing to get overly excited/upset about.
It cooks pork chops well..chicken you have to watch and learn the timings because one minute it will be very juicy and the next it will dry it out. It also is good for doing bacon if, like me, you don't like it ultra crispy and it makes a really good grilled cheese sandwich. |

Of course I much prefer a regular grill but that's me. |

Barbecuing is ghetto whether it's indoors or outdoors though. |
The foreman grill rocks, especially if you're on a high protein low carb diet that requires you get your calories form whole food.
Hit me up anytime and I will share with you how I use mine. |

I love cooking on the outdoors grill and refuse to use anything except true hardwood charcoal, but when it's below 32 degrees outside, I do my "grilling" on the GF grill. Does it taste the same? Of course not. But it's better than panfrying a burger. :thumbsup |
chicken is pretty good on it

I actually got all the George Forman barbeque utensils for Christmas. They look awesome
|
Tomorrow. Buy yourself a FAT steak and slap that bad boy on there. Throw some baby potatoes in a pot until cooked, get a nice sauce and some veg and you'll love it.
Thats what I'm talking about. |
I use it when its cold outside or i am in a real hurry, but its handy for sure.
I make some great london broil on mine and can make some killer hamburgers..chicken breasts come out nicely too...marinade is the key..keep it moist and dont over cook. |
