I remember when you went out at night 50 guilders was more than enough for a few beers and shit with your friends. Now 50 euros is just enough for 2 hours of fun.

I agree. The introduction of the Euro sucks bigtime. Prices doubled and they keep denying it.
However, the dollar being in such a freefall has not much to do with the Euro. Canadians, Australians, everyone has problems because of the dollar dropping in value.
It's not the Euro that goes up, it's the dollar that goes down.

the only thing i can recommend for europeans is open bank accounts in US currency and convert the money as soon as the euro is less strong

Not only the Euro, we Canadians are buzzing out as well. I was getting some paperwork done yest, I had some months last year where I was getting $1.53 Can for every $1 US. Today im getting $1.29. Thats a 24% loss.

Problem is that you don't know when and if that will happen. It's quite possible that the dollar drops even further, then stays there for 10 years or something.

If it does drop further, it wont stay there. I predict it will rise again to normal levels soon. Its a great idea to have a US account for this very reason.

I remember people saying the same thing quite a while ago. Many thought by now their money would be back to it's orginal worth.

I have a USD account, have it for years. Should have cashed 6 weeks ago when the Euro was 0.94 USD, 11 cents higher than it is now :/
