Haha, you didn't see them way back when they announced them? I'm ordering one as soon as they're available. I have a Mac Pro desktop right now with 8 processors and 12GB of RAM. This'll be a nice upgrade!

No, design took me by surprise. I've got an old silver one I was thinking of upgrading and bam, caught me by surprise.

dyna mo 10-23-2013 01:43 PM

nice, it will look perfect next to your coffee machine!

tokmansta 10-23-2013 01:44 PM

It looks great but it's so expensive.

Also note, the storage is PCIe based. If you want a lot of storage you will have to work with external disks.

They stole that idea...been around forever...it's called a trashcan.

Its innovative all right, I can see right away that having the power cord go in with all the other inputs including the power switch may be annoying. Paint it green and its the Android mascot:1orglaugh

Apple Design Team: See, I told you we'd find a useful way to get rid of all the diaper genies.

But yeah, 3 grand for the "entry level" mac pro with less than what's in my $1200 hack pro...

Why is that bad? My last Mac Pro desktop was $4,200, and has lasted me since 2009. I'm only upgrading to stay current, all of my apps still run lightning quick with only dual Xeons (8 cores) and 12GB of RAM in this machine.

I'll be going for the $4,000 option and upgrading to the dual AMD FirePro D700. That's 12GB of VRAM total, 2048 stream processors, 384-bit-wide memory bus, 264GB/s memory bandwidth, and 3.5 teraflops performance.

My quad core PC was built in 08-09. It still works fine. In the time I owned it which was up until 3 months ago the only thing I ever had to do to it, was change out a HD. The PC cost me about $1200 to build. I ended up giving it to my step father and he uses it now.

If lasting and still being reliable count, seems I saved myself $2,800 on my PC.. However at the same time , well actually 1 year after I built the PC, I bought a iMac.. it cost over $2k and it lasted maybe 1.5 years before it was a over sized door stop... It lasted just long enough for the warranty to expire.

Its funny when they make a new case design and its "revolution". Yes, thats their style - change nothing important, but present it as "amazing amazing". And fanboys eat it :1orglaugh
Its unbelievable :)

400$ PC from 2009 is still very current (not for games or video programs though) nowdays. And its only 9% of what you paid...
4200$ for a computer... Rich. To put it politely. Especially when its worse than 2100$ PC :) 2100$ for the logo :1orglaugh

Also, the Mac Pro teaser image looks like something that was created from the unnatural butt plugging action between HR Geiger and Franz Kafka. In other words, it looks like an ashtray.

Yup, software hasn't evolved to need much more horsepower, unless you're video editing or other graphics-card-heavy tasks.

I've never used an iMac, I assumed they were garbage, based on the market they were targeted at. The Mac Pro desktop is for professionals, not hipsters.

If I'd gone with a PC, I guess I would have "saved" $2,800 in the same way that going with a Hyundai would have "saved" me $80,000 per car over my previous purchases of the Porsches, BMWs, or Viper. I just prefer the Mac.

I prefer not to use a PC-based Hackintosh. I find that a real Macintosh works better for me with Mac OS X. I don't want to deal with constantly worrying that my Hackintosh will need specific updates to keep it current with Apple's software, etc. My Mac works natively, and I'm happy with that.
